Mia has spent her whole life pretending she’s fine.Fine after losing her mother, the woman who once held their family together.Fine while carrying the weight of a father she barely understood and siblings who depended on her more than she ever admitted.Fine while hiding the cracks no one ever bothers to notice — the quiet despair, the restless nights, the lingering fear that everything she loved could shatter in an instant. But the life she has carefully built to feel safe is about to change. On the day she walks into her exam hall, a strange shiver runs down her spine. Hairs lift as if the air itself is warning her. Something is coming, something she cannot yet name — a shift that will upend everything she has known, everything she has trusted, and everything she has worked to protect.Back home in the countryside, her family gathers in heavy silence. Her elder brother, Daniel, stands rigid, carrying responsibilities too large for one person, his calm façade concealing a storm of worry and grief. Her younger sister, Lily, clings to the remnants of a childhood already broken, unaware of the fragile threads holding the family together. And lurking in the shadows of their once-comforting home, a truth waits — a truth Mia is not yet ready to face: the fate of her father, and the fragile stability of the family she has fought so hard to preserve.Amid the weight of family secrets and the ache of unspoken fears, Mia notices him — the boy everyone whispers about. Cold, distant, untouchable, his presence ignites a reaction in her she cannot explain. His eyes, unreadable yet penetrating, stir something inside her — desire, curiosity, and a fear she does not understand. He is the spark that could burn down her carefully guarded walls, yet he is also the only one who seems to see her truth. As Mia navigates a world of grief, responsibility, and hidden pain, she finds herself caught between two powerful forces: the grief waiting to swallow her whole, and the desire she never believed she deserved. Each day becomes a battle — to protect her family, to confront the secrets long buried, and to understand the emotions she has spent so long burying herself. This is a story of quiet strength and hidden wounds, of love that sneaks in when life feels unbearable, and of the delicate balance between holding on and letting go. It is about the moments that break us, the choices that define us, and the courage it takes to face truths too heavy to bear alone.Between the tension of a home built on secrets and the irresistible pull of a boy who challenges everything she thought she knew about herself, Mia must discover who she really is — and who she is willing to fight for.Because sometimes, the hardest battles are fought silently, the deepest wounds are invisible, and the person who unsettles you the most may also be the one who has the power to heal you entirely.

Chapter One
Mia paused at the edge of the schoolyard, her fingers gripping the strap of her bag so tightly it cut into her palm. The wooden doors of the exam hall loomed ahead, tall and imposing beneath the gray countryside sky. A shiver ran down her spine, and strands of her hair lifted as if the air itself whispered a warning she couldn’t name. The distant murmur of voices drifted from her family’s house, though she had no idea why everyone had gathered there. Something was happening — she could feel it in the pit of her stomach, a weight pressing down, making her breath catch. Every instinct screamed at her to stop, but she moved forward anyway. And then she saw him. Leaning casually against the gate was the boy everyone whispered about — cold, distant, untouchable. When his gaze met hers, a strange pull tugged at her chest, but she didn’t have time to understand it. With a final shiver, she pushed open the doors of the exam hall, letting the world of chalk dust and polished wood swallow her in its quiet tension. Yet even as she took her seat, a part of her heart remained tethered to the unease that had followed her here. She couldn’t explain it — that instinctive fear, that prickling awareness — and she didn’t know that it was only the beginning. After the exam, Mia returned to the house, the countryside air heavier now, thick with something unsaid. Inside, her elder brother, Daniel, stood rigid near the fireplace, jaw tight and dark eyes fixed on the floor. Her younger sister, Lily, clutched at the corner of the sofa, small and trembling. The absence of their mother — warm, grounding — was a hollow ache in the room, magnifying the tension that hung in every corner. Mia knelt beside Lily, forcing a soft smile. “It’s okay, Lily,” she whispered. “Everything’s fine.” The lie felt bitter in her mouth. Daniel finally looked up. “Mia… Lily… come sit. There’s something we need to discuss.” His voice was calm, careful, but every measured word only deepened Mia’s unease. Something in his posture told her this was not about exams or ordinary family matters. Her chest tightened. A strange, prickling sensation coiled in her stomach — the same instinctive warning she had felt earlier in the schoolyard. She didn’t know why, she couldn’t understand it yet. But she felt it, deeply, as though the world had shifted beneath her feet. And still, she remained completely in the dark.
