Violet's POV
"Welcome Violet." one of the females said to me.
"Thank you." I said back to her.
She has 5 males next to her and about 4 little ones near her running around in circles by her legs. They must be her kids and males. I see more females coming and they all have a lot of men with them too. This must be what everyone talks about when it comes to the ratio between males and females.
"Hey, that's for someone else." I heard a female say
Looks like that is Clarise talking to another female. This female looks tall and built. She's pretty with gold and brown streaked hair. Tan skinned and she seemed to have authority as everyone else was not saying anything to her besides Clarise. I check to see what they are arguing about and I see the fish Jee saved for me.
"It's just food. Clarise why be so upset about it. Share it." she says back to Clarise.
"This is for Violet. She doesn't really eat what we eat, since she isn't a winged beast." Clarise says back to her.
"She's not a winged beast? How did she even get up here anyway?" the female asks curiously.
"Not your business. Anyways, give it back. You really don't want to cause trouble with this one, Becks." Clarise says seriously to her
Why does that name sound so familiar?
"Calm down, calm down. Just a bite. I overheard a few of the boys saying this was a delicacy. Why can't the future Grand Chieftess try something like this? It's my right anyways!" she started to say angrily to Clarise.
I start walking towards Clarise so that I can say it's okay to share it, but Jee gets there sooner than I do.
"Clarise, this is not yours. Don't take something that is not yours." Jee says to her
"Jee! You're here? You didn't go to the city?" she asks curiously.
"Not your business, Becks. I had other plans and priorities to take care of. Anyways, give that to me. That belongs to someone else." he says back with authority.
"Jee, are you really trying to take this away from me? Didn't you do that for me? You always give me everything first. Why are you taking this from me? I heard you brought this to the tribe. Shouldn't I be the first to have this?" she asks Jee on the verge of crying.
She walks towards him and tries to hold his cheeks. I watch as he just stands there. Is he really going to let her advance on him like that? Actually, I can't anyway. I can't allow myself to get close to him. It's not fair to him. I turned around and started walking.
"Violet let's go." I felt Clarise grab my hand and we walked out to leave
"Thanks." I said back to Clarise.
I'm not jealous, I'm not jealous, I'm not jealous. Why would I be jealous? He is still a stranger to me, right?
"She's always like that. I have no idea why Isaiah wanted her as his female." she says back to me.
"Is that who I think it is?" I asked her.
"Yes. That's why I wanted you to get out of there. I know sooner or later you will meet her, but not right now and not at this time." she says to me sadly.
"I must be missing something, clearly I am." I said back to her as we started walking back to my tree-house.
"Long story short, Jee was supposed to go with a few men to help with trading. As you can see, we are really small. To grow our community, we needed to start and do something to attract others to come. So we started to trade the fruits we found in the orchard. There are only a few orchards available with coconuts. The other fruits we have are seen in other villages but coconuts, not as much, so we got lucky when we migrated here. Before the men left, Jee and Isaiah fought for Rebecca." Clarise says to me.
"So was this recently?" I asked her surprised
"Yes, that recently. Literally right before, they fought the day after they had to leave so that they could make it back before the winter season. Most likely they haven't spoken since." she says back to me, concerned
"Oh okay! Well, yeah, I would not want to be there for their first conversation since that incident. That would be super awkward for me." I said back to Clarise awkwardly.
"You know the advantage for females is we can reject males. You don't have to say yes if you don't want to or if you are not ready. We have many males here who would make you happy, Violet." she says back to me concerned.
"Thank you for letting me know this. This is still so new to me, so I am not too sure what to do and when to do it." I said back to her.
We walked back up to the tree-house and I saw a few leftover fish on the plate we had used earlier.
"Want to try some?" I asked her.
"I am sorry for not getting the one Jee saved for you. Knowing Becks, she ate all of it and didn't share it with anyone. She's such a repulsive beast. I can't say much, as I can be like that too, but she can irritate me and other females all the time. We portioned a lot of our food and she would almost take double the amount since she was highly favored by the Chief." she says to me
"Really?" I ask her while I place the fish in front of her.
She takes a bite and is in awe.
"Violet, this is delicious. I never would have thought this could taste that good! You seriously need to have Jee teach this to my males. I want this all the time!" she says to me happily
"You guys must not really eat anything besides insects and fruits, huh?" I asked her.
"Honestly, that's correct. We haven't been here for that long so we use what we have. Since we are winged beasts, this is ordinary for us, but this fish is life-changing. We have tried many times to eat this but it never tasted this good. And it's not raw. Did you use the baby suns for this?" she asks
"Yes. We cooked it on fire and were able to fry it with coconut oil." I said back to her proudly.
She gobbles it down like it's her last meal. To my surprise, she sat in silence for a while after.
