CHAPTER TEN — LEVI CONFESSES

625 Words
The academy was silent, the kind of quiet that made every breath seem loud. Luna climbed the narrow stairwell to the rooftop, boots soft on stone. The wind tugged at her hair, carrying the scent of frost and something sharper — danger, or maybe Levi. He was already there. Leaning against the low ledge, shoulders tense, gaze fixed on the horizon. Moonlight etched his sharp features in silver, highlighting angles that spoke of control, precision, and a power he rarely let anyone see. He didn’t turn as she approached. “You came,” he said, voice low, calm, but with an undercurrent of tension. “I always do,” Luna replied, stepping closer. Her eyes caught his in the moonlight, unafraid, steady. Levi’s hands clenched at his sides. Inside him, the wolf stirred, muscles coiling, instincts screaming to claim, to protect. Yet Levi’s mind — clever, calculating, disciplined — kept the wildness in check. “You shouldn’t be here,” he said, finally facing her, jaw tight. “And yet you wanted me to come,” Luna said, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “Why, Levi?” He blinked, caught. For a heartbeat, the calculated armor slipped. His silver-gold eyes softened, and Luna felt it like warmth pressing through her chest. “I…” His voice cracked slightly, unpracticed. Then he closed the distance, careful, but too fast to fully control. The wind rose, tossing strands of her hair and his coat together, tangling them in the night. “You can’t,” he whispered, teeth grazing her lips. “I shouldn’t—” “You want to,” she said, her certainty anchoring him. Levi groaned low, a mix of human and wolf, and pressed closer. His hands found her waist, gentle but insistent, holding her as if she were the most fragile thing in existence — even though he knew she could withstand anything. The kiss was fierce, hungry, but beneath it, Levi’s tenderness shone. Every careful brush of his lips, every careful cradle of her face, screamed of how much he cherished her. Luna didn’t pull away. Instead, she let herself melt into him, feeling the strength and care in his touch. He drew back slightly, resting his forehead against hers, breath mingling with hers. “You don’t understand,” he said softly. “I shouldn’t… I can’t—” “Levi,” she whispered, hand tracing the line of his jaw. “You’re here. That’s enough.” He smiled faintly, a shadow of his usual sharpness. “I’ll fight everything else in the world,” he said, voice low and certain, “but I’ll always fight to keep you safe. Always.” His wolf stirred again, pressing insistently beneath the surface, recognizing her as his mate — forbidden, yes, but perfect, undeniable. Yet Levi didn’t let the wolf take over. He pressed a hand to her cheek, thumbs brushing softly, grounding her, showing her that even in the chaos, she was safe in him. “I cherish you,” he admitted, voice quiet, almost lost in the wind. “Every moment. Every look. Every laugh. I can’t… I don’t want to hide that.” Luna’s lips curved, and she leaned into him. “I feel it,” she said. “Every bit.” Levi pressed a last, lingering kiss to her forehead, then pulled back just enough to meet her gaze, silver-gold eyes glowing with something softer than anyone had ever seen on him. The world below slept. Rules, destiny, and consequences waited. But up here, on the rooftop, Levi was both predator and protector, alpha and lover, calculating mind and tender heart — and Luna knew, without a doubt, that she had his whole devotion, no matter the cost.
