Chapter 16: Secrets

606 Words
“May I go to the bathroom sir?” Polly asked Mr. Belen.     “Sure,” he answered. He’s sitting on his desk in front, playing with his phone while we’re here hurting our butts and being bored. Our school sent out a memo earlier that they’re making it a "relax day" since it’s Friday but we still have to go to school.     I watched as Polly walked out of the place, weird. Just a minute ago, Harvey went to the bathroom. It could just be that they’re bored; we were tasked to write an essay despite it being a  "relax day"  . The topic is our state of mind which is a boring word for therapy, I think. I’ve never really been to one.     I finished mine ages ago, I lied about a lot of things, I don’t want anyone asking me if I’m alright and if I should go to the mental hospital.     Also, I think they’re doing this because of the murders. The trip was supposed to be a stress reliever, according to them, I still think that it’s to find the killer but the only thing that happened is the death of two people so they resorted to a more simple way.     “Sir, may I go out?” I asked and stood up; I don’t know what I’m doing. I also don’t know what I would see. Does it stop me? No, because I’m stupid and I don’t think before doing anything.     “Three people are already outside, you should wait,” he answered. Cain is the third one outside, he was in the other room, Ms. Alcoy borrowed him for a little while.     “It’s an emergency sir, I have my period,” I said. I’m technically not lying since I’m on my third day and I only get my period for three days which is really nice.     “Alright then, go ahead,” he said, I gladly went outside and went to the girl’s bathroom, I needed to look for Polly first. I kicked open all of the stalls but Polly is nowhere to be found, the boy’s bathroom probably?     It’s dangerous but I have to do it. “Is anyone here?” I asked before coming in, there’s no one. Where could they be?     I was about to walk back to our room when I saw the storage room, a likely place for them to go in.     “You guys, we’re in school. Can’t that wait till we get home?” I asked as I leaned on the closed door behind me.     Guess what, Polly and Harvey were kissing, now they’re just staring at me, one of them is shocked while the other is annoyed. I usually mind my own business but Harvey minded mine so now I’m minding his.     Polly and Harvey just don’t seem like the people who would be together. She’s dated James, Joana’s brother after Joana took her boyfriend but has she been cheating with Harvey this whole time?     “What will other people say? Polly, what will your father say when he knows that you’re cheating on James?” She’s the only child and her mother left his father when she found someone else. I don’t want to threaten her or degrade her; she’s just a collateral damage.     “Don’t even get me started on you Harvey. You’re ruining your father’s name more than it already is,” I said. I can’t help but smile. I’m so happy right now; I can’t believe my curiosity led me to something good.     “Deal with this,” Polly said and left the room. “Shut your mouth,” Harvey said, trying not to shout. “I don’t want anyone knowing about this.”     “Not everyone’s your servant Harvey, you should learn to do things by yourself and you should be scared.” I won’t tell anyone.
