The more I dwell on my time with the Buddha, the more frazzled I get. Not just because he’s something of a head case to begin with, but also because he has this habit of tapping into stuff that I don’t particularly feel like tapping. Not in a gross, “creepy stranger” kind of way, but in an “Oh no, you didn’t” kind of way. For better or worse, he brings up things I never really thought about, which can only mean the world wanted me to ignore them in the first place. But then, all teachers do that. It’s like they’re not happy unless they’re “challenging” us with concepts that they’re convinced we’ll never figure out otherwise. Give it time, I say, and let the world teach us by example.
