CHAPTER ONE
Chapter One Shantel's POV: "Why do they still give incompetent people jobs?" he spat. His veins were so visible that I thought they were about to pop. He stood there, glaring at me. "I'm sorry, sir, but if you could just tell me what it is, I'd whip it up for you," I let out in a shaky voice. "I'd like to see the manager. Considering this establishment is a circus," he spat. It had barely been two weeks since I got this job, and here I am being questioned by the management for being "incompetent" by an arrogant customer. The thought of how all this could have been avoided irritated me. "Miss Shantel, do you know who that man is?" my manager asked. I nodded negatively to his question. The atmosphere choked me; one would think I had robbed the store, but all I did was ask the man what he would like to order. "That was Mr. Rio, one of your biggest customers, and what he wants is what he gets," he said sternly. "I'm sorry, sir, but I never said I was not going to attend to him. I just asked him what exactly he wanted," I said back to him. "You're still questioning the authority? Indeed, you're incompetent for this job. Please drop your uniform by the changing room," said the manager. I could hear the rage in his voice. That motioned me to drop to my knees and beg like a puppy without a home. This seemed to have softened him up, but he still did not agree to let me go off easily. "This is your last chance, but you would have to clean and lock up tonight. Get the keys from Jane and tell her to go home," he said to me. "You can leave," he added, going back to his phone. Honestly, if this was not the only thing holding my life in place, I would never have seen myself begging for a job at a bistro. Life really played a fast one on me, and I wondered how horrible this was going to get. I felt like I was being watched; I kept catching the glimpse of a shadow hovering around me. But the thought of someone watching me quickly escaped my mind as the thought cloud of my current situation filled my mind. I was left alone to clean and do the dishes. All this for a man who is currently living his best life at the moment; now I'm stuck here. I cleaned up with anger and hatred. When I was all done, I locked up the bistro and began heading home. On my way home, I felt I was being trailed. I decided to pace up and try to run in a maze. I took a corner to my left, and it was a dead end. The footsteps became louder, and the shadow disappeared slowly. He was huge. Soon after, his face was brought to light; it was the creepiest customer I had ever encountered. Answering to this pervert was the worst thing ever. He was disgusting. If it was not a silly joke about my boobs, it was always making me pick up things right in front of him or him offering to pay me for the night. "Well, well, well. I guess I finally got you. For someone this endowed, you are pretty fast, but I must say not smart enough," Mr. Briggs said with a huge smile plastered across his face. Even in the dark, one could still see his yellow, germ-invested teeth. He walked towards me, pressing me into the wall with each step. At that point, I wished I could disappear or the ground would open up and swallow me, but it only happened in movies. "You're so delicious," Mr. Briggs said, trailing his cold and wet hand across my arm. Fright unleashed goosebumps on my body, and his horrible breath made me feel sick. "What do you want? Please, just leave me alone," I said to him, pleading. His smile deepened as he trailed his hands onto my waist. He pressed me against his body, and I could feel his groin hard on my body. "I want you," he whispered into my ear, licking my ear. That triggered me. I pushed him back and with my loudest voice called out for help. "HELP ME!!!" With that, I tried running, but he grabbed one of my legs, which made me trip. He drew me towards him, turned me towards him, my back facing the ground. He locked me in between his legs and began to unzip. Tears dropped from my eyes; this was the worst thing that could ever happen to me. I still had one more energy to beg the universe to work in my favor. I closed my eyes, and with all my positivity, I manifested a savior. And with a big thud across the trash can, my eyes were prompted open. A tall figure was pounding Mr. Briggs. He shoved him into the wall of the alley, beating him so hard that we could see the shape of his fist on Mr. Briggs's face. He left Mr. Briggs to reach for a rod when he used this opportunity to escape. "This is not the end of me," he said, limping away from both of us. "Are you okay?" the tall figure asked while walking towards me. He stretched out his hands to pull me up from the ground, and that's when I saw a clear view. It was the cause of all this. It was Mr. Arrogant from the bistro earlier today. "You again?" I said to him. "Well, I guess I'll take that as a thank you for rescuing me," he said. "Well, I would say the universe rescued me, but you put me in this position," I said to him. I still couldn't believe what had just happened. I was almost r***d by that beast. I don't think I would have ever gotten over it. I felt uncomfortable; I needed to get away from here. "Are you okay?" he asked again. "No, I'm not, and I don't even know. I feel disgusting. If you hadn't showed up, I don't know what could have happened. My life would have been so hard to live. I don't even know what to say," I said, crying. He stood there looking at me; I could tell he did not know what to do or what to say. I looked up at him, and he had a straight expression; I could not read what was on his mind. He was stiff. "I'm sorry if I'm bothering, but I have to go now," I said, untangling myself from my own hug and walked towards where my bag was scattered. "We are going to the club," he said sternly. He didn't ask; he commanded. "What?" I asked, confused. "I don't know if you got the hint earlier today, but I don't like to repeat myself," he said, walking out of the alley. I stood there with my bag, confused about what was happening. I just got assaulted and now kidnapped by the person who caused all this. He walked towards the club at the other street without looking back to check if I was following him. I was beat; I needed to be around someone, and he was the only one that made me feel safe. And I wasn't sure I wanted to go home now, not after what happened. I ran towards him, and we proceeded to the club. We headed towards the bar section. A lot of people seemed to know him there. He had a lot of women hovering around him, which he treated poorly, in my opinion. I was still irritated by how girls were desperate to be close to him. That wasn't even my problem; my issue was that I got stares and death glares from women just because I sat next to him. "Two Martinis, please, and show no mercy on the vodka," he said, winking at the bartender. She gave a sheepish smile, which made me also grimace. I sat there uncomfortable due to the glares I was getting. The drinks were ready, and he requested six shot glasses before having the drink. He did not bother to ask if I drank; he just put a shot glass in my hand. "Cheers," he said, motioning for me to drink. "Well, screw it!" I said, gulping all my drink at once. As the night progressed, I found myself reluctantly enjoying the company. Despite the chaotic events of the evening, being with him offered a strange sense of security. Though I couldn't shake off the discomfort of the situation, I couldn't deny the relief of having someone there. As the club lights dimmed and the music thumped, I couldn't help but wonder what other twists this night held in store for me.
