Chapter 8: He's Getting Expelled

1094 Words
Tina always judged a book by its cover. The three men beside her were not enough to get her attention, so she lowered her head and played with her phone. Shirley had always been a quiet person, sitting in the corner and listening to others speak. Now that nobody was talking, she felt a little embarrassed. She truly wanted to find something to talk about, but she couldn't think of a topic. "Do you guys want a drink? Let's go buy some beer". Bailey's boyfriend suddenly stood up and walked away before any of the girls could say anything. Shirley didn't care. She didn't drink anyway. "Bailey, why didn't you ask Ben to bring a few good-looking roommates?" Tina pouted and complained after he left. Bailey and Shirley exchanged glances and smiled softly at the same time. Tina glared at them fiercely. "What's the matter? Did I say something wrong?" "Sure, sure." Bailey smiled. "I'll definitely tell him when I get back and ask him to bring a few handsome roommates." "Yo, this chick looks pretty sexy." A provocative voice suddenly sounded from behind them while the three were talking. Turning back, they saw a few ruffian-looking and unshaven men behind them. Shirley furrowed her brows slightly. Their hair was sticky, and it looked like they hadn't washed it for a long time. "Get lost." Bailey's expression turned cold as she said sternly. It was not the first time that they had encountered such hooligans. They would provoke them verbally and usually stop bugging them after showing their anger and discomfort. However, it seemed to be a minor mishap. Bailey's sternness did not scare them away but aroused their interest instead. "Okay, little girl. You are feisty. I like it." The man who was the leader said and reached out to touch Bailey's shoulder. She wore a short on-shoulder dress, which revealed her delicate collarbone and pale shoulders. When Shirley saw the slightly damaged hands, her heart skipped a beat. The three girls, who were still students, were frightened now. Fortunately, nothing terrible happened. At the critical moment, Ben and the others came back. Seeing how his girlfriend was about to be touched by a dirty man, he was full of anger. As soon as he put the beer on the ground, he ran over while shouting. "Let go of her!" Ben reacted extremely fast. He had already reached out to hold Bailey in his arms as he spoke. The man looked at Ben with a bit of annoyance. Ben also glared at those men angrily. "Who are you? Mind your own business." "I'm her boyfriend." "Ha...you already have a boyfriend. What a pity. That little mouth of yours has been fucked..." Dirty words began to spill out of the man's mouth. Ben was so furious that he was caught off guard and threw a punch. Shirley's eyes widened. Everyone was frozen. A few moments later, Ben and the others started fighting with several people on the opposite side. The food stall customers were shocked by the dust and the crackling sounds. Everyone panicked and moved to the side to watch the show for fear of accidentally hurting themselves. Bailey was scared to death. There were only four people in Ben's group, while there were about seven or eight in the other. "Call the police, call the police," Tina said, shivering. Shirley took out her phone from her pocket and dialed 911. When the police arrived, Ben and the others were already battered to the ground and couldn't even stand up. They were all bruised and swollen. Those punks were showing off their power. Bailey cried until her eyes were red and swollen, but she didn't dare approach them. Then, they were all taken to the police station. It was the first time in Shirley's life that she had been to the police station. Ben and the others were in an interrogation room. The other ruffians were locked up in another interrogation room. After asking a few questions, the policeman called the instructors. Shirley's heart was pounding. She had a vague feeling that things were getting out of hand. An off-campus brawl was indeed a big deal. Although it was Ben and others who were beaten badly, but... The department instructor was a young lady who was not more than a few years older than them. She was still studying as a graduate student, but she was usually very strict with them. The instructor of Ben's department was a middle-aged man in his forties. He had a bald head and looked grim and stern. The police officer said that the thugs involved in the fight were civilian workers near the university's construction site. They would be detained for a few days. The others were taken away by the instructor. For a long time after that, Shirley still remembered the stern look of the instructor of Ben's department. It was terrifying. It was not until the following day that Bailey's crying woke her up. Only then did she realize in a daze that things were not as simple as she had thought. "Ben will be expelled," Bailey sobbed and said intermittently. Shirley and Tina were stunned as well. Tina subconsciously asked, "What about us? We won't be expelled, will we?" Shirley's heart also tightened. She had always been a good student. The word "expel" was too far away from her life. Bailey kept crying, but she shook her head hard and said, "No, but Ben will be expelled." From her intermittent narrative, Shirley understood the critical point. There were so many onlookers yesterday, and someone took a video of it. The incident had blown up, so if the school wanted to control the impact, they had to have a valid argument. Ben became a scapegoat. It was true that he was the one who started it. Shirley had mixed feelings in her heart. She patted Bailey gently on her shoulder, not knowing how to comfort her. "What should we do? He can't be expelled. Can you guys help me think of something?" Bailey's eyes were red and bloated. Without makeup, her face didn't look too good. Shirley pursed her lips but didn't say anything. Tina shook her head. "We can't do anything about it." "Shirley, aren't you close to Andrew from the school council? Can you help me ask him? See if he has a solution?" Bailey looked at her enthusiastically. "Andrew?" Shirley bit her lip and then nodded. "I can try." Bailey held her hand, smiling and crying simultaneously. "Thank you, Shirley. Thank you!"
