Chapter 9: I Need Your Help

1116 Words
Shirley stood on the stairs at a corner of the dormitory building. This staircase was so remote that very few students passed by it. Her heart was pounding, with her hand holding the mobile phone on whose screen was Andrew's phone number. She knew his number backwards! But every time she tried to call him, she was still nervous, even though it was for something very important. Shirley dialed his number. A beeping sound came on the phone, and she was so agitated that she almost had her heart in her mouth. Andrew answered the call. His clear voice came from the speaker. "Shirley?" She liked it when he called her name. It felt as warm as the sunshine in spring. "Andrew, I need your help," she said. She was so nervous that her voice was even trembling. "Okay. What is it?" Andrew put aside the work in hand. He rarely saw her in such a hurry. Shirley briefly explained the situation to Andrew, who occasionally responded to her in a very relaxed tone. She believed that he would definitely stroke her hair with a smile if he were beside her. "Don't worry. I'll take care of it. Tell your roommate not to worry." "Thank you!" Although he had just made an oral promise, Shirley was very happy and willing to trust him. After she went back and told Bailey what Andrew had said, Bailey felt a little relieved, though she was still worried. Shirley trusted Andrew very much. If he promises to help, he will do it! After lunch, she received a call from Bailey. "Hi, Shirley! Ben's problem has been solved! Thank you so much! And please thank Andrew for me! I'll treat you to a meal one day." It's been solved! Shirley couldn't help chuckling. "Don't mention it. It's just a lift of a finger!" After hanging up the phone, Shirley sat at her desk and thought about whether she should make a phone call to Andrew to show her gratitude. However, the next second, the phone in her hand suddenly vibrated and gave her a fright. She looked at the flashing name on the screen, and her eyes widened. She almost threw her phone away. It was Charlie. In the past 20 years, he had made only a few calls to her. Within a few seconds, countless thoughts flashed through Shirley's mind. She was thinking about pretending not to hear it and letting it ring until he stopped calling. Could there be something important? I don't think so! He kept calling again and again! There seemed to be no sign of giving up! Shirley gritted her teeth and finally decided to answer it. The moment she picked up the phone, her hair stood on end. "Hi..." she said a very diffident word. "Where are you?" Charlie's clear voice sounded cold. Shirley was stunned for a moment and then cautiously asked, "What's wrong?" She was at a loss and had not yet understood what Charlie meant. "Come out and meet me. I have something to tell you." What a reticent guy! Without giving her a chance to ask, he hung up the phone quickly. Shirley held her phone with a confused look on her face. Where should I go to meet him? Her mind went blank, and she kept thinking about Charlie's last sentence. Then, Shirley stood up and ran downstairs, with her phone in her hand and slippers on her feet. Her heartbeat was fast, and she kept praying in her heart. Charlie is not downstairs. Charlie is not downstairs... However, as soon as she walked out of the dormitory, she was stunned. At that moment, Charlie was standing less than ten yards away from her. He was tall, with meticulously combed hair, dressed in a black suit and sunglasses, exuding an air of coldness. Such a man like him always attracted girls' attention. Shirley was nervous, and she almost couldn't breathe. Charlie felt something, so he turned around and met her eyes. Shirley gasped and ran over to him with caution. "Charlie!" She was shorter than him. She stood beside him but didn't dare to look up at his eyes. "Come with me." Charlie grabbed her wrist and drew her towards him. Shirley trotted to keep up with him before she could react. His car was not far from them. He opened the door and went in. Shirley reacted fast and got in the car too. The atmosphere in the car was very depressing. I don't ask questions before he speaks! Shirley just lowered her head and remained silent. Charlie had always kept a cold face and rarely smiled in front of her since he was a child. When he flew into a rage, he seemed to want to kill all the people approaching him. In the past, whenever Shirley noticed that he was angry, she would always keep a distance from him, but it seemed that she couldn't get away from him today... Charlie, sitting in the driver's seat, turned around and stared at Shirley with cold eyes. His voice was cold too. "You are bold, aren't you?" Shirley couldn't help shivering, and a trace of fear appeared in her eyes. She had no idea how she had pissed him off. She wanted to refute him, but she was afraid to meet his eyes. "You went out to drink and fight? Is that what you do at school every day?" Shirley couldn't help looking up into his eyes. How did he know about that? Who told him? "The assistant of your school's principal made me sick! That old man talked to me in a sarcastic tone!" Shirley looked at him in confusion, not understanding what he meant. "I will make you drop out if you cause trouble at school again!" Charlie said with his black eyes flashing with anger. Shirley nursed a grievance, but she just bit her lip and did not say anything in the end. "I've never cleaned up a mess like this before. What a good gift you gave me?!" He mocked sarcastically, "I'll only say it once. Get out of the car." Shirley opened the car door and got off in a panic. She stood by the roadside and watched Charlie drive away. Her heart was full of bitterness. When she was five years old, she was adopted by the Johnson family. She had her own room, which was very beautiful. There were her favorite dolls, as well as many gorgeous princess dresses. The Johnsons treated her very well, as well as her parents did. However, Charlie was also there. He always showed her a cold face and never spoke to her whenever he saw her.
