CHAPITRE 7 - MATTEO

1014 Words
After living Mary, Matteo went back home. He lived in a high-end residence with a barrier and a gatekeeper. He greeted the guard who opened the gate for him and went on until he reached his house. After going inside his house, he went to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water, then went inside the bathroom. He needed to take a shower, and he was still wet from his meeting with Mary and her friend. At least it was just water, he had known worse. After taking a shower, he went inside his office and started his computer. Today he interrupted his work after his meeting with Remy. He had stormed into his office in the morning demanding him to explain what the heck he was doing, letting his brother do as he wanted at work. At first, he didn’t understand what was going on, then he showed him a video recording of what had happened 2 days earlier in the lobby. To say Matteo was angry would be an understatement. No, he was in a rage. There was nothing in this world that could justify a man physically hurting a woman, and they sure hadn’t been raised like that. He may not really like his twin’s ex-wife, but he didn't need to intervene. After thinking about it, he went to see her, and now he had to go with her to a gathering. He sighted and settled down in his chair. - Fiona. Mary. He whispered. Now, that woman was on another level of annoyance. She had made Grandpa call him and put him back as the CEO of the conglomerate. While Mattew has been demoted to the position of administrative director. And this, without asking for anything. It was frightening. And now Grandpa had made her into an heir. He tried to hide it, but Matteo wasn’t a simple CEO, and he hadn’t gotten to this point by being clueless. So he knew what Grandpa had done. What she had made Grandpa think he wanted to do. A formidable opponent indeed. He opened the folder on his desk. It contains every information on Mary. He had asked his assistant to find everything that could be found about her, her background, her family, her friends, her work, anything. Her name was Fiona MICHEL. She might insist on being called Mary, but she actually didn’t change her name, so she was still Fiona. She was 32 years old and owned a restaurant with her friend and associate MELISSA. So the restaurant was actually hers too. Both her parents were still alive and living in her old town. He turned the page. - Interresting. Samantha, his brother’s mistress, even though he had been telling everyone they got together after the divorce, had been her best friend since childhood. Coincidence? He didn’t think so. Mattew had said his ex-wife was a liar, a cheat and a manipulative person. He knew what women were capable of doing, they were always trying to wiggle their way in his life. Because of money, fame, even beauty. Yes, he knew that women were untrustworthy, but was Mary playing solo or did she joint hands with Samanthan to play his brother. He closed the folder and poured himself a glass of scotch. It was a gift from grandpa when he won his first million. He didn’t like to drink it, but he poured himself a glass every time he felt nostalgic. Like today. His phone started ringing, he looked at the caller and smiled. - Mom, you said you wouldn’t call. - Am I not allowed to miss my boy? He laughed. He had forgotten he still had a woman he could trust with his life. - You are not going to make me feel guilty. Where is dad? - You would know where he is if you had stayed with us. He sat back in his chair. When Grandpa had given Matthew and him the ultimatum of marriage 3 years ago, he had forsaken everything and went abroad to start anew. They had been trained to succeed in the family business, so it was hard at first. Since Mattew chose marriage, their parents follow him abroad. A week before his birthday, Grandpa called him and asked him to come back and take over the family business. At first, he wanted to refuse, then he learned about the divorce, the business facing some storms and grandpa’s health. So he went back. - I missed you two. - Now I can’t even be mad at you. How is grandpa? - Fine, I will tell you if something goes wrong. - What about that girl he gave 10% of the shares to? Your brother is mad with a capital M. - I don’t see why she was his wife and he did trick her into abandoning those shares when they divorce. - He said they signed a prenup, and she was just supposed to receive 3% of a subsidiary. - Well, Grandpa wouldn’t have had to do that if he had given her what was rightfully hers. - It wasn’t right for your brother to do that, but he was hurt, she cheated on him. With his friend, mind you! This was the first time he had heard about that friend of Mattew. - Mom, stop worrying. I will take care of that. - All right son. I know you will. Don’t forget to eat and sleep because you are by yourself. - Mom! Yes mom! - Sassy boy. She chuckled then hung up. Their mom had a soft heart and believed and loved everyone. Fortunately, their father had a level head. He looked at the invitation he had received for the gathering of shareholders sitting in a corner of his desk. He didn’t tell his mother what happened between Mattew and Mary. He didn’t want her to worry needlessly. She wasn’t going to see it in good eyes that he joined hands with a stranger to bully his brother, but he would cross that bridge when the time comes.
