Chills
The room was silent. No one dared to speak, talking less about breathing in fear of being heard by the monster. Wong Karl, the so-called monster who was the CEO of one of the world's biggest financial cyber security services to protect assets for wealthy individuals and few corporations.
His efficiency and diligence while running the company eventually led to its growth and soon became international and well trusted but right now, an unlucky Mr. Jiang was about to disprove that trust that the company took years to build with his stupidity.
The board meeting was more like a judgment day for Mr. Jiang. He was in charge of the building and supervision of the fire wall of the company's intranet but someone had almost cracked into their system, if that would have happened, the individual would have access to the company's database.
It would have been catastrophic as I heard from a little birdie that some of these databases belong to members of the underground world.
Mr. Jiang gulped a little too loud due to tension in the air as Wong Karl's dark eyes met his with a void expression. Everyone stole glances at the poor man, they were all worried as his fate from here was maybe predictable.
"Was it a mistake hiring you Mr. Jiang?"
"N-no sir. I'll fix this, I already started investigating the matter and found out that the cracker is an employee sir" His voice cracked at the end proving to everyone that he too knew he was dead meat. Working here was a dream-come true because the salaries paid were so worth working your ass out so losing this job would make you go crazy.
"You have a week to find out who the culprit is" He said nothing after that which made everyone relax as he stood up to leave the room, indicating the end of the meeting.
Mr. Jiang let out a long sigh as he wiped the sweat off his temples.
"Jesus!" he exclaimed.
"Yeah, you should really thank him for saving your ass just now" Mrs. Yun said as she extended her hand with a handkerchief.
"Here"
"thanks" She smiled to his reply and left the room.
Now, that was another part which people admired at the same time feared in Wong Karl. He was unpredictable. Tessah miller, Wong Karl's secretary quickened her steps behind Karl at the same time keeping the 3 feet distance away from him. It was on her contract for the job, she had wondered at that moment why someone would put that in their contract but right now, she didn't even care to know why because at some point, she'd prefer that distance than to come any closer to breathe the same air as he did. It could choke one with a jovial spirit like hers. He was too cold, he never smiled even at his phone, never. maybe in his house but never in her sight.
On top of that, he had a very bad mouth. you could call it being straight forward but it was a bad mouth to Tessah.
He'd tell you harsh things like it was a normal word with a face so nonchalant. Tessah used to read novels where there were nonchalant guys. it was cool and could even be called sexy but in real life? 'get you a clingy one' she'd say.
Wong Karl had a confident stride making his every step perfect according to others perspectives. To Tessah, his long legs made him seem like he was walking fast to attend a national assembly meeting and this made her run in heels to keep up with his pace and to constantly maintain the 3 feet distance. It was tiring as an exercise but the pay kept her going without thinking of quitting or complaining.
"What else is there to be done this week?"
"Mr. Wong Lewis sent you a message and said you should read the email he sent to you."
"Anything else?"
"No sir" She gave a tiny bow and excused herself from his office and went back to her desk which was quite distanced from his office which was different if she were to compare with other secreterians desks that were mostly at the side of the CEO's office.
Sometimes, Tessah would have to run when he called her to his office. Everyday was an episode with this Wong Karl of a man. No one could tell Tessah other than this man loved to see people all worked up to attend to his needs.

Karl stared at his phone for a while before dialing a number.
"How is my favorite nephew doing today?" Sounding so giddy.
"I'm your only nephew, Uncle" his voice was cold as usual. Wong Lewis released an awkward laughter.
"Karl my boy, you still as funny as ever"
"I'm not and get to the point of this call"
"I want you not to forget our deal"
There was silence before Karl replied.
"I never said yes" Lewis rolled his eyes.
'straight forward as always.' he thought to himself and let out a sigh before his tone became serious.
"I'll take that as a yes cause I don't take no for an answer. If you don't show up, we'll have a problem so we're going out this Saturday" With that he hung up leaving Karl speechless.
Wong Lewis was more of a nagging wife than an uncle to Karl which pissed him off a lot. But nothing much was expected from a Mama's boy away from his wife due to professional reasons. They met every after 30days but behaved like it were a year. In the absence of his family, he would tend to pester his only nephew.
Karl who wasn't having it at all would ignore his calls and text which led to Lewis sending the mail cause he knew he would read it.
" Miss Miller? my office, now!"

Tessah knocked twice before opening the door?
"Yes sir?"
"If my uncle sends an email or text, delete it"
"Sir?" Her voice didn't hide her confusion.
Karl stared dead into her eyes so she knew he was serious.
"Leave"
She quickly exited the room and began contemplating at the hall way because if she were to do as he said, the other party will pester her instead. He could deal with his uncle on his own, why implicate her into their family drama. She headed down stairs for some coffee.
" what a funny family. His uncle is going to hold me accountable for his messages not reaching his nephew and all he could add as clarification was a 'leave'" mimicking his voice with her face visibly showing annoyance as she reached the coffee machine
