"Tess....You sure you aren't drunk?" Mei asked with a worried expression.
"No....I'm fine. I'm not drunk, just tipsy"
"You look drunk. cheeks all red, stutter after each word" Mei had a smile at the corner of her lips.
"It's just blush and I'm 25 years old today so I can perfectly handle a single shot"
"It's past midnight, I think we should get going" Rong la announced.
They were all going to sleep at Mei's place and continue with Tessah's birthday tomorrow with the cake eating. Mei searched her purse for her keys but couldn't find them in there.
"Shoot, I can't find my keys, they must have fallen when we were upstairs...."
"I'll go check them upstairs" Tessah stood and began walking towards the stairs. She was drunk, perhaps but not enough to admit it. Tipsy enough to feel fearless, sophisticated enough to pretend she wasn't.
She felt pleasantly untethered as though the floor has developed a gentle rhythm beneath her heels. She got to their previous location and saw the keys where Mei had left them, got a hold of them and headed downstairs when the club started to spin.
"f**k!" She bumped into someone who steadied her pace.
"Ah, thank you sir" The lingering scent of sandal wood which was too familiar to her nostils. It reminded her of someone she knew very well, but there was no way the man could be here right?
Tessah's vision began to steady letting her see the tall figure before her which made her laugh hard.
"Do I amuse you?" Karl asked.
"Yeah...you do" still laughing hard.
"Why is that?"
"You look like someone I know...My boss" Followed by a smile that quickly faded
"..." no response. Karl just stared at Tessah in amusement seeing how drunk she was where she couldn't even identify him as her boss.
"But I'm quite disappointed" Tessah said putting on a sad expression
"Why?"
"Because if he were here, I'd have a lot to tell him"
"Like?"
Tessah gave him a suspicious glare before continuing.
"Well, stuffs like how much he sucks and how rude he sounds. Makes me run to his office and back to mine when my desk is normally supposed to be close to his office"
"..."
"And he should learn how to appreciate the hard work I do by giving me a little tiny holiday" gesturing with her slim fingers. The flush on her cheeks made her look vulnerable.
"interesting"
"indeed it is" and she proceeded to talking. Karl just stared and listened to Tessah as she babbled. He wasn't shocked nor angry, he just has nothing to say.
Tessah was still busy saying a lot when Rong La tapped her shoulder.
"Tess... You're here. We've been waiting for you for a wh...Oh! CEO Wong"
Karl gave a light nod, still looking at Tessah
"Huh! did you say Wong?" Tessah looked at Rong La.
"I apologize for her behavior sir"
"Let's go Tess" pulling her downstairs.
Tessah's eyes went wide as she turned around to glance at Karl again.
The ride home was silent. Tessah who was drunk had fallen asleep, Rong La was busy texting her fiancé while Mei drove.
****
My eyes flew open, my heart already hammering as if I had been running in my sleep. My mouth was dry, my head throbbed and the faintest taste of last's alcohol still lingered on my tongue.
Warm lights blurring around the edges of the room.
A face.... Karl's face.
His exquisite features which made him effortlessly handsome. His dark almond eyes which pierced into one's soul, defined jawline with his dark hair which created an interesting contrast with his pale skin.
I squeezed my eyes shut
Another flash. My fingers against his cheek.
The memory vanished before I could grasp it. I shut my eyes again.
The warth of his skin beneath my fingertips.
"oh no" Pressing both hands against my temples.
Another fragment surfaced.
My thumb brushing along his cheekbone
Karl's eyes watching me. Then in my drunken voice, soft and amused
'You're really handsome, you know that?'. I groaned and dropped my face into my hands. The ground just had to swallow me at this moment cause how was I supposed to face Karl Wong on Monday.
And the worst at all, I remembered not seeming remotely embarrassed about it at the time.
"How much did I drink?" Screaming in my pillow.
"Or maybe he wasn't the one I interacted with yesterday. They say think positive and that's what I'm doing"
****
"Yeah it was CEO Wong you were talking to yesterday" Rong La couldn't help but let out her laugh
Tessah lazily ran her hands in her hair while letting out a sigh.
"I'm cooked!" she exclaimed.
"What happened girl?" Mei calmly sipped her tea and passed Tessah her hangover soup.
"If your secretary told you to your face you how annoying you were and tries to tell you how to be a good boss, what would be your reaction?" Tessah asked.
"Girl!!! You ate that" letting out a loud laugh.
"You're not helping Mei" Tessah's voice sounded depressed.
"The deed has been done Tess...Only Monday will tell" Mei said as she quickly moved closer to Tessah
"Could you explain with details, what you remembered saying yesterday"
Tessah went on to explain yesterday's events. By the end of the story, both girls were rolling on the floor, tears blurring their view and their feet kicking mid air.
