CHAPTER 18: THE AWAKENING

1066 Words
For five years, Nova Blackwood had believed she knew herself. She was the rejected mate. The abandoned daughter of Silver Moon. The woman who had survived because she refused to die. But the ancient records had changed everything. Because now she had to face a terrifying possibility. What if survival was never the reason she was powerful? What if power had always been waiting inside her? --- ### NOVA The dream came before midnight. Not a normal dream. A memory. She stood in a forest covered with silver mist. The trees were unfamiliar. The air was ancient. And somewhere in the distance, a voice called her name. "Nova." She turned. A woman stood between the trees. Beautiful. Powerful. Familiar. Nova couldn't explain why, but seeing her created a strange ache in her chest. "Who are you?" The woman smiled sadly. "You have forgotten." Nova stepped closer. "I don't forget." The woman looked at her. "You were made to remember." The words sent a chill through her. Then the woman lifted her hand. A glowing mark appeared on her palm. The same symbol found in Darius' hidden chamber. Nova froze. "The Crimson Circle isn't searching for your power." The woman's voice became softer. "They are searching for your awakening." The forest began shaking. The dream started collapsing. Nova reached forward. "Wait!" But before the woman disappeared, she said one final thing. "The Alpha who rejected you awakened your heart." A pause. "The Alpha who trained you awakened your strength." Her eyes darkened. "But only you can awaken yourself." --- Nova woke suddenly. Her breathing was uneven. Her wolf was restless. Not frightened. Calling. She looked at her hands. For a brief second, faint silver lines appeared across her skin. Then vanished. "What are you hiding from me?" she whispered. She wasn't sure whether she was talking to the Moon Goddess... Or herself. --- ### KADE Kade noticed the moment he saw her. Something had changed. Not physically. Something deeper. Nova entered the training hall later that morning, and every wolf inside unconsciously lowered their heads. Not because she demanded respect. Because something about her presence commanded it. Kade watched silently. He had spent his entire life understanding Alpha aura. Dominance. Authority. Power. What he felt from Nova wasn't exactly the same. It was older. Different. Almost like her wolf existed beyond normal rankings. "You're staring." Her voice pulled him from his thoughts. Kade looked away. "I was observing." Nova raised an eyebrow. "You have a strange way of admitting curiosity." A small silence followed. Then, unexpectedly— Kade almost smiled. Almost. The moment disappeared quickly. But Nova noticed. She always noticed. --- ### TRAINING The warriors gathered that afternoon for combat training. Not because they needed lessons. Because Nova requested it. Kade stood beside Commander Rowan as they watched. "She wants to test them," Rowan said. Kade nodded. "No." Rowan looked at him. "Then what?" Kade watched Nova move through the training ground. "She wants to test herself." And he was right. Nova fought three warriors at once. Then five. Then ten. Not with anger. Not with revenge. With precision. Every movement was controlled. Every strike calculated. But halfway through the exercise— Something changed. A warrior attacked from behind. Nova sensed it too late. Her body reacted before her mind did. A wave of energy exploded outward. The entire training ground froze. Every warrior was thrown backward. Silence. Complete silence. Nova stared at her hands. The air around her shimmered faintly. She hadn't chosen to do it. It had simply happened. Kade moved immediately. "Nova." She looked at him. For the first time, she looked uncertain. "I didn't..." "I know." The answer came quickly. And strangely, that helped. Because he believed her. --- ### THE REVELATION That night, Nova and Kade returned to the ancient records. They searched through every remaining document. Until they found something hidden beneath a false page. A prophecy. Neither of them spoke as they read. **When the forgotten blood rises, the kingdoms will kneel.** **When the rejected returns, the old powers will awaken.** **The wolf without a crown will decide who deserves one.** Kade looked at Nova. "That sounds like you." Nova didn't answer. Because one line bothered her most. The wolf without a crown. Not Luna. Not Alpha. Not queen. Something else. Something beyond titles. "What if I don't want this?" Kade looked surprised. "You?" She looked at the prophecy. "I spent years fighting to become powerful." A pause. "But power always comes with a price." Kade understood. Because he had spent years carrying the burden of being Alpha. "You don't have to face it alone." The words came quietly. Nova looked at him. There was no demand. No expectation. Just an offer. And that was more dangerous than anything else. --- ### THE NORTHERN MESSAGE Before dawn, a messenger arrived. Northern Black. A black envelope. Again. Nova opened it. This time, there was no warning. Only an invitation. **Return north. The truth can no longer be delayed.** Signed: Lucien Draven. Kade saw the message. "You have to go." Nova looked at him. "You sound certain." "I am." A pause. "Because whatever is happening, you need answers." She studied him. "And Silver Moon?" His expression hardened slightly. "I'll handle it." Five years ago, she would have laughed. The old Kade would have chosen the pack over everything. Now he was willing to stand alone. That change unsettled her. --- ### KADE After she left the room, Kade remained standing. He knew what was coming. Nova going north meant facing Lucien. Facing her past. Facing truths that might change everything. And for the first time, Kade realized something terrifying. He wasn't afraid of losing Nova because of another Alpha. He was afraid because she might discover she never needed him at all. --- ### NOVA At sunset, Nova stood at the edge of Silver Moon territory. The northern mountains waited ahead. The place where she became someone new. The place where answers were hidden. Behind her was the pack that broke her. Ahead was the man who rebuilt her. And somewhere between them was the truth. She took one final look at Silver Moon. Then stepped forward. Not as a rejected mate. Not as a forgotten daughter. But as the woman who would decide the fate of every kingdom. Because the awakening had begun. And there would be no going back.
