Chapter 4
It wasn't long until we reached an extremely nice looking house. It was huge with a large gate in front that you needed a key card to get inside. The card James pulled out resembled the ones we used to get into Obsidian, but it had the football logo on it instead.
After we got inside he pulled his car around the back where I could see a pool and what looked like a clubhouse. It wasn't a part of the main house, but looked like it was just as nice.
James parked the car next to a fancy black car before getting out and walking around to my side. He then opened my door. I honestly contemplated trying to run. I had no idea where I was going to go, but ultimately I decided against it.
He put his hand out to me and I grabbed it as he pulled me from the car. I thought he would grab my wrist again, but instead he closed the door and then intertwined his fingers through mine. I swallowed hard and didn't attempt to remove my hand from his. I knew it was no use.
I followed him towards the clubhouse and inside. There were 3 or 4 other football players that I recognized from school sitting on the couch inside.
They were playing video games and there were open beers sitting on the table in front of them. None of them even looked up as we walked by. I was partially thankful because I didn't need more criticism. Not right now, at least.
We continued into the kitchen. The fridge door was open but I couldn't see who was standing inside. I had a really bad feeling about all of this, and at this point I was really starting to panic. Jayden was still with me, but being a ghost, he couldn't do anything. Moral support was all he could offer.
We were just about to head up the stairs when I heard a familiar voice from behind us. "Reya?" Cash said. I turned and immediately locked eyes with him. I pressed my lips together and hoped that just by the look in my eyes he would realize that I wasn't here voluntarily.
James stopped and turned around facing Cash. "Hey Cash." I said, hoping my tone would alert him that I did not want to be here. "Cash." James said. "What are you guys doing?" Cash asked, popping the tab on the beer he had in his hand. "We are just hanging out man." James said, but Cash was looking at me for an answer.
I couldn't say anything but I hoped he could see the pleading look in my eyes. “Oh cool. Hey Reya, come here. I want to show you something.” Cash said motioning for me to come to him.
I looked back at James who still had my hand intertwined in his, as if to get permission. He did not want to let go of my hand, but after a moment I felt his grip loosen.
It wasn’t much, but this time it was just enough for me to pull my fingers from his. As soon as I was free I started walking towards Cash. I didn’t want to hurry and make it obvious that I wanted to get the f**k away from James… Still, I couldn’t help but wonder if he was just going to grab me and pull me back anyways.
When I reached Cash without issue, I exhaled slowly in relief. Cash had his phone out and he showed me it, acting like he was showing me a picture of something, but there was a message on there.
“Look into my eyes if you do not want to be here.” It said. I immediately looked straight up and locked eyes with him. I knew James was going to expect me to go back with him after I was done talking to Cash but I had no intentions of doing anything of the sort.
Cash then did something that completely threw me off, and also kind of pissed me off. He took my cheek in his palm and kissed me directly on the lips.
I heard James inhale sharply and I fought the urge to pull away and slap Cash across the face, but I refrained.
Even though I was annoyed, I kind of liked the idea of this pissing off James after the bullshit he tried to pull. Although, I had no idea why he would be mad. He hated me… And he made sure I knew it every single day.
I then reciprocated Cash's kiss and allowed him to pull me closer to him by the small of my back. I ended up pulling away first and kept my eyes locked on his.
“Sorry James, it looks like your girl isn’t actually your girl. She’s mine.” He said, never taking his eyes off me. Then he pressed his lips to mine again softly before finally pulling away and looking at James with a smirk.
Thankfully, Cash didn’t let go of me. I didn’t even dare look over at James, I just kept my head buried in Cash’s shoulder. “Smooth, Cash… Real f*****g smooth.” James growled.
I knew he was looking at me but I didn’t give him the time of day. “Reya, come here.” He snapped, causing me to flinch in Cash’s arms.
I finally looked at him after avoiding his gaze this entire time and I could see he was f*****g pissed. Anger rolled off him in waves. I didn’t know what to do or say.
I wasn’t about to leave the safety of Cash's arms to put myself back in danger, but I also didn’t know what to say.
“Sorry James, but this beautiful babe has made her choice.” Cash said, intertwining his fingers through mine. Cash started walking towards James with me in tow. I had a deathgrip on his hand in fear that James would somehow snatch me away from him as we walked by.
Luckily, he didn’t. He just moved out of the way as I followed Cash up the stairs. I had no idea where we were going, but I was just happy to be away from James.
There were multiple doors along both sides of the hallway and Cash led me into a random room in the middle. I wasn’t nervous until he clicked the lock shut on the door.
I turned and looked at Cash who was still standing at the door. My thoughts were running wild at this point. “Reya… What the f**k is happening?” Jayden said. He had been with me this entire time.
I couldn’t answer him, but my thoughts were insane. Don’t tell me that I escaped James just to be trapped in the same exact situation with Cash… I thought. But he surprised me when he put his hands up in defeat.
“I only locked it to keep James out… Just in case. No need to panic.” Cash said. I exhaled in relief with his words. I didn’t say anything because I was still on edge, really.
“What were you doing with him anyways?” Cash asked after a few moments. “He kidnapped me from school. Forced me to go with him.” I said. I didn’t really want to talk about it to anyone, let alone Cash.
“He kidnapped you from school?” Cash asked. I could see the surprise written all over his face. I nodded. “Weren’t there people around?” He asked. I could hear the surprise in his voice.
“Yep, basically everyone... Oh, and Jessica too. She tried to stop him, but he didn’t listen to her at all.” I said. Cash just shook his head. “Jesus Christ, I’m sorry.” Cash replied.
“He has had it out for me for years. I don’t know what his deal is. I never expected him to do anything this drastic though...” I said softly. “He’s a f*****g piece of shit.” Jayden suddenly said from behind Cash.
I looked up and locked eyes with my best friend. I had to keep a straight face, and not smile, because that would just be weird. “Thank you for saving me…” I finally said after a few seconds of silence.
“You’re welcome. I’m sorry I kissed you… I just thought that would be the easiest way to get James to back off.” Cash said. I could feel the blush invading my cheeks.
I had never actually kissed anyone before.
“It’s ok. I’m just grateful that I'm in here with you, and not him.” I said. “You probably need to get home, don’t you?” Cash asked. “Yea, my brother, Drake, is going to freak out if he gets home before I do.” I replied.
“Drake? As in Alpha Drake?” Cash asked. I nodded. I thought everyone knew that I was Alpha Drake’s sister. So, it was strange to me that he didn’t.
“Holy s**t… And James dares to f**k with you… The Alpha’s little sister?” Cash said. I shrugged. “I guess so.” I replied.
“I want to know how he’s still alive… Wait… You haven’t told him, have you?” Cash said. I swallowed hard and shook my head. “It’s easier if he just doesn’t know the struggles I have to endure… He feels guilty enough already.” I said softly.
Cash raised an eyebrow at me. “Guilty for what?” He asked. I forgot that Cash was new here. He didn’t know anything about me… That much was clear.
I ignored his question. “Do you think you could take me home?” I asked him. “Oh, of course.” Cash said, holding his hand out to help me up off the bed.
I took his hand and stood up, ending up a little bit closer to him than I anticipated. He instantly stepped away but kept a hold of my hand.
“Let’s go.” He said, pulling me along behind him. I knew exactly how this would look, but I didn’t care. I didn’t know if James was still downstairs. Plus, by the panicked look on my face as we headed towards the door, I didn’t think Cash would let go even if he wanted to.
Much to my surprise, James was nowhere to be seen as we were leaving. Once we got outside I noticed that his car was gone. I exhaled in relief. This isn’t to say that he wouldn’t try this again, but for now I was safe.
We walked over to the black sports car that James had originally parked next to. Cash unlocked the door and allowed me to get inside.
It was a nice car, much like the red one James drove, but this one didn’t child lock me inside. I checked because my nerves were still frazzled. Cash was chuckling when he got inside the car.
“I almost thought you were going to run.” He said. I smiled. “I thought about it… But if I was able to shift to begin with, I wouldn’t have ever let James get me this far.” I replied softly.
“You can’t shift?” Cash said, looking over at me. The confusion was clear in his brown eyes. I chuckled under my breath.
“You really don’t know anything about me… Do you?” I replied. “Well, I know you’re Alpha Drake’s sister, you can’t shift, and for some reason James has his eye on you. What else is there to know?” He said while backing the sports car out of the driveway.
“It isn’t like he won’t find out the truth anyways, so what would it hurt to just tell him?” Jayden said from the backseat. I looked into the rearview mirror and met my best friend's eyes.
I suppose he was right though. Cash would find out, eventually. And he may not find out in the best way… If I told him, I could control what he knows and possibly save this friendship, or whatever this is… In the long run.
