Chapter 5

Chapter 5 I decided that I was going to tell him. I looked over at Cash and he noticed, looking back at me with a charming smile. “There is more to know…” I said, trailing off. I sort of got cold feet for a moment. This wasn’t something you usually told people. “Oh? Sexy and Mysterious. I like it.” Cash said with a wink. I could feel the blush forming on my cheeks. No one had ever complimented me before… Not like that. “Don’t even think about it… Tell him.” Jayden said. “How much do you know about this pack and its origins?” I asked him. He seemed confused as to why I would be asking him this, but I couldn’t blame him. “Well, I don’t know, I know a little… I guess. We just moved here, but I had only heard slight rumors of this place before now.” He replied. I figured as much. Most people on the outside have heard the rumors, which is why Alpha Drake was so feared. Anyone who could take only 8 men, and destroy an entire pack… Is someone to be feared. I inhaled slowly… Here goes nothing. I thought. “I was murdered when I was 13 years old. My brother, Drake, got his revenge years later by building an army and taking over the pack who had killed me and the others… Then he made a deal with The Shadows for my life. That is how I’m here. That is why I can’t shift… That is why I don’t have access to my Wolf powers often, if at all… And that is why I don’t have any friends… I wanted you to know before you heard it elsewhere.” I said, hoping that it wasn’t too intense. Cash inhaled slowly. "So, you were murdered and the brought back to life?" He asked, clearly, focusing on the worst part of it all. I nodded. He chuckled before he spoke. "Now that is the coolest thing I have ever heard." He said with a smile. I exhaled a breath I didn't even know I was holding. "Really?" I asked. he nodded. "You're going to have to tell me all about being dead another time though, because we are here. You do live with Alpha Drake, right?" He asked, pulling into my driveway. I laughed. "Yes, I do, and honestly Being dead was just a whole lot of nothing, if we are being honest." I replied. he looked at me funny but then just smiled. "Have a good night, Reya." He said before allowing me to leave his car. "Well, that was almost a cluster fuck..." Jayden said from beside me. I jumped when he spoke because my mind was not at all where it should have been. "Jesus, sorry... I am frazzled." I replied. "No worries, I can't blame you. I don't even want to think about what might have happened had Cash not been there." Jayden replied. I know, but I have a feeling that James will probably try again… And he’s going to be f*****g pissed now… I'm not sure what to do about it... I mean, he was ballsy enough to grab me straight from school in front of everyone. He's unhinged..." I replied, heading upstairs to my room. Just as I closed my door, I heard the front door open, Drake was home. I exhaled another thankful breath. He wouldn't even know I was late, and therefore wouldn't question me about it. "Damn girl, you got lucky." Jayden said with a chuckle. He was right though. I wouldn't have been able to make up a lie fast enough to tell my brother about where I was, then all hell would break loose once he found out what happened. I could only imagine the look on James' face after that meeting... If he survived. He was a piece of s**t, but I didn't want anyone's blood on my hands. I pulled my computer off my desk and sat on my bed with it pretending to work on schoolwork when my brother knocked on the door. I expected this because he checks on me every day when he gets here. "Come in, Drake." I said to my brother. I watched as he stepped into my room and closed the door softly. "How was school?" He asked. My heart sank into my stomach as I recalled my terrifying encounter. "It was great. I'm so excited that it's Friday though, and the weekend!" I lied. I was excited, but not about the weekend, just about tonight. "Good. Are you sure you want to come with to The Edge tonight? You don't have to..." He said, trailing off. I knew he didn't want me to go but only because he was worried about my wellbeing. He was always worried about me and I felt a bit sheltered by him, but I understood why. Still, I needed to be able to do my own thing at times. "I'm sure I want to go. I already have an outfit picked out, I'm going." I said, narrowing my eyes at him. "Ok, ok... You're going. be ready by 8:00pm, we are leaving at 8:10pm." He said and then he turned to leave my room but stopped at the door. He then turned back around, and his eyes locked straight on my wrist. "Where did you get that bruise?" He asked. I crinkled my eyebrows. "What bruis..." I began to say but stopped when I looked down and saw the perfectly placed handprint bruise that had formed on my wrist within the last hour. "Play it off that you tripped, and the new kid grabbed you to stop you from falling but the force must have caused a bruise." Jayden said suddenly. "Weird, I tripped earlier and the new kid, Chase, grabbed me to stop me, but the force must have been a little much. I was sure I was falling before he stopped me. It must have bruised." I said and I let the confusion riddle my voice. "Oh... Ok, but you're alright?" He asked. I nodded and sat back on my bed grabbing my computer. I was hoping that acting nonchalant about it would help him to believe me. He was still standing there when I looked up at him. "What?" I asked. he just shook his head and smiled. "Be ready by 8:00pm." He reiterated, and then turned, leaving my room for real this time. "Jesus." I huffed to Jayden. "That was close, you need to get better at lying." He said with a chuckle. I rolled my eyes. I know I was a terrible liar, I always had been. But I also didn't want to lie... It was just the mess I kept catching myself in all the time. I heard my brother knock on my nephew Talus' door next. I could hear Talus rustling around in his room. It was right next to mine. He must have gotten here before me but didn't realize I wasn't here, hopefully... My nephew just turned 8, and he was a little s**t. He acted like he owned the place, and for all intents and purposes, maybe he did. But still, for only being 8, he was a terror. I had no idea where he was going tonight while we were gone, but I knew my brother wouldn't allow him to stay home while we were out tonight. Knowing his luck, Drake would send him to Rebecca's house to hang out with Raven. I can't imagine she likes him much. If he treats her anything like he treats me, then she definitely doesn't like him. I had hoped he would get better as he got older. One could only hope. I listened for my brother to head back downstairs before I put my computer away. He usually didn't come back up after the initial check in until it was dinner time. He couldn't mind link me like the rest of the pack since I lacked a Wolf spirit most of the time. Our main form of communication was my cell phone, and him just coming to my room. My mind fluttered to the adventure we were going to go on tonight. Unfortunately, I knew my brother was going to watch me like a hawk. I had hoped I could escape from his grasp a little bit. The thing is, everyone would be there tonight. When Alpha Drake goes to The Edge, the rest of the pack is allowed as well. We are forbidden otherwise. And I knew a large majority of the pack would be there, James included... I guess it might be a good thing if I was by my brother's side then... "What are you thinking about? You look lost in thought." Jayden asked. I looked over at my best friend whom I had forgotten was even there for a moment, and sighed. “James... I'm thinking about James. He's going to be there tonight... And Cash... And Drake doesn't know anything about any of it... How am I going to keep it a secret if James chooses to start s**t?" I said. Jayden's eyes widened. "Damn, I didn't know you were thinking all that... But that is quite the conundrum." He replied. "And the dead... What am I going to do about the dead?" I asked. I know I was psyching myself out. James had really gotten into my mind earlier, and now I was terrified of what might happen if he found me alone. "Hey, snap out of it, Reya. You, missy, are going to be perfectly fine. The spirits will not be an issue tonight, and James is going to leave you alone. I can't say anything for Cash though, he seems to really like you." Jayden replied, somewhat calming my anxiety. I sighed again and threw myself back onto my bed. "I know he does, he f*****g kissed me. Ugh." I grumbled, but the feeling of his lips on mine lingered. Strange that he was my first kiss, and even stranger that I kind of wanted to do it again. I pushed the thoughts away. It isn't something I should be thinking about. Everyone always leaves me, anyway. Everyone except my brother. I refused to get attached to Cash and then have him leave too. Thank you so much for reading!!!
