A Mother's eye
Chapter 1: The Dream In the quiet town of Eldridge, 12-year-old Mia had always felt different. She often saw things that others didn’t, glimpses of shadows flickering just out of sight. Her mother, Clara, always reassured her that imagination was a powerful tool. Yet, Mia sensed there was more beneath the surface. One evening, Mia awoke from a vivid dream where she saw her mother standing at the edge of a forest, her left eye glowing with an otherworldly light. It felt so real that Mia rushed downstairs, only to find Clara asleep on the couch, a tear glistening on her cheek. Puzzled, Mia whispered, “Mom, are you okay?” Clara stirred, wiping her eye and murmuring something about being fine. Chapter 2: The Discovery As days turned into weeks, Mia’s dreams continued. Each time, she would see her mother in different scenarios: sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, always with that left eye glowing. Mia grew concerned. She began to notice strange things about her mother—how Clara would sometimes stare into the distance, as if seeing something just beyond reach. One afternoon, Mia decided to explore the attic, hoping to find clues about her mother’s past. Among dusty boxes, she discovered an old diary belonging to Clara. As she flipped through the pages, she learned about Clara's childhood in a mysterious village, where the villagers believed in a powerful gift that ran in families—the ability to see beyond the ordinary. Chapter 3: The Confrontation Determined to understand, Mia confronted her mother. “Mom, what’s happening with your left eye? I see it in my dreams!” Clara paused, the light dimming in her eyes. She took a deep breath and finally admitted, “It’s a family secret, Mia. My mother had it too. The left eye… it sees things that others cannot.” Clara explained that this gift came with a price—those who could see were often burdened by knowledge they weren’t meant to bear. She had tried to protect Mia from this reality, but now it seemed the visions were passing to her. Mia felt a mix of fear and excitement. “What do we do?” she asked. Clara hesitated, “You must learn to control it. But remember, with knowledge comes responsibility.”
