“We have to check the dead bodies. A number of the invaders are certainly dead, but we have also lost a lot of warriors. We will make an official announcement as soon as we can. Right now, patience is extremely important.”
I paused my speech and looked at them. Among them were family members of several soldiers who had joined the battle. They wouldn’t have found out if their kin survived or not. My heart ached for them. If I could have done anything about it, no one would have lost their lives. I felt bad asking them to be patient while they weren’t left with another choice. I gulped down the lump that was forming in my throat and raised my chin. Losing a pack member was painful, especially when they died protecting our territory.
