Kept Secret

“I will be teaching you guys from today. Teacher Gali had some things to take care of and left on short notice. I am Franklin Glass, and I will be your teacher starting today. Let’s learn together everyone!”

The students are not informed about what happened to their previous teacher but because the new teacher is far more cheerful and bright than the previous one, most of the students did not really care and just continue on learning.

There are students that are relatively close to the previous teacher, they are the only ones that wondered where their beloved teacher is. They asked the other teachers about it but they are only met with sad gazes and shaking heads. All the teachers had the same answer and gestures, after persisting for a long time, most of the students that are wondering about their teacher’s whereabouts gave up on looking for answers. And only two remained, Jonathan and his classmate that is very close to the teacher, Jeremiah.

The two continue to look for answers to the point that they even considered coming to the house of their teacher only to find that his house is for rent. Finding out about this made the two not only confused but also baffled, since they were told that their teacher only went to do something far away but that doesn’t justify his actions by leaving his house.

They both knew that their teacher is living alone and that all of his relatives and family lives in the next city and travelling there just to get answers as they are now is proving to be impossible because of their age. So the two postponed everything until they get the chance.

A few months later,

“Its been a few months now but teacher did not even sent a letter. And most of our classmates and teachers have already forgotten him. Do you think it is fair? He is the only teacher that cared for us so much but he is easily forgotten like that. No matter how I think about it, it just doesn’t seem fair.” Jeremiah said on the verge of tears.

“I know. Our current teacher is a bit different unlike teacher Gali, whenever I talk about me dream. He would always tell me to aspire to be different. Teacher Franklin is the opposite, he encourages me to strive for my dream without any explanation. Teacher Gali on the other hand is bombarding md with explanations that I cannot even understand or is too deep for me to understand.”

The two share their thoughts on their new teacher even though they have already had this talk countless times but the two did not get bored of talking about the same thing. It is then that Jeremiah had thought of something when they are talking about the same thing over and over again.

“Jonathan. Did you not realize something over the past few months?” his eyes glittering with enthusiasm left Jonathan in the dark and just shook his head.

“Realize something? What are you talking about?” Jeremiah smiled when he found out that Jonathan is not aware of what he was talking about so he reminds him about it.

“Did you ever stop to think that the only ones that remembers teacher Gali clearly is only the two of us? The others don’t recall anything other than how strict he is to us, so what if we try to forget teacher Gali as well.” Just by the words that he spouted, Jonathan immediately felt his chest tightened and his complexion turns red, hinting that it was not something that he would consider doing.

“What are you talking about? We are the only ones that are still wondering about teacher Gali and now you want to forget about him as well?” before Jonathan can get even angrier, Jeremiah tells him about his plan.

“I don’t suggest that we forget the teacher entirely. I am saying that what if we act like we forgot about the teacher? If we do that, whatever that they are hiding will be exposed since they will let their guard down. That way we can easily gather information.”

When Jeremiah said those words, Jonathan’s expression changed as if a light bulb lit up inside his head and immediately agrees to his plan. “Sorry about that. I did not think thoroughly and judged you immediately.” Jeremiah pat his shoulder.

“We are friends. I understand why you are angry in our teacher’s place so there is no need to apologize to me.” The two made up without any problem and put the plan into action. They spent the entire week not talking about their teacher as if they really forgot about their previous teacher just like the others did. And just as Jeremiah had thought, the teachers as well as their parents who are concerned about them lowered their guard.

It is after dinner that Jonathan came back from school exhausted that he skipped dinner and went to sleep. His parents express how relived they are for him to stop thinking about his previous teacher outside his door.

“Poor child. It took them an awful amount of time to forge their teacher. I cannot imagine the pain that they must have endured for such a long time.” His mother said with a sad tone. Jonathan can clearly hear that his mother came to his room to bring his dinner since he did not manage to eat with everyone.

“I know right? How cruel can they be to harm someone like that-?”

“Stop it! What if he hears you?! “ their murmuring outside his door stopped but it was already too late, Jonathan heard it loud and clear, even though they are still outside his door, he can still make up the words that they have said inside his room. And his father’s words that night continues to echo inside his head.

“What? Teacher was harmed?”
