Episode 1
SARAH'S POV
It was deafening. That was the word to explain the chaos that broke out in the courtroom. The numerous protests and cheers of the members in the courtroom all faded as white noise in the back of my head.
The only sound I could hear was my heart slamming against my eardrums. Before my eyes, evidence was displayed. Evidence of ‘my a******y’. There were pictures and video evidence of things I never did.
Staring across the room at the man that stood with a devilish smirk on his face, all I could feel was revolt and bile rising up my throat.
How dare he cheat on me with my sister, accuse me of cheating and chase me off ?
“The evidence is false, your honor!” I shouted before I could stop myself. This seemed to quieten down the noisy room a little, calling all their attention to me.
The judge c****d a brow in question with his head tilted. “Do you have evidence to prove such a claim?”
I stared at my lawyer for help, but he bent his head in shame. I was at a loss for words . My mouth went dry and my mind was spinning a thousand thoughts per minute.
“I...I...I..I..” Words failed to leave my mouth and the judge shook his head in disappointment with a hint of annoyance.
“I think it’s clear then. Might as well announce the verdict.” He was about to pick up his hammer and I was panicking. I was about to lose everything and Ferdinando was going to win, like he always did.
“If the case can be adjourned, I’ll provide evidence of my innocence,” I was grasping for straws and I knew it, but I was desperate. My vision turned blurry as tears welled up in my eyes, but I pushed them back. I couldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry. Never!
The judge gave me a pitiful look before shaking his head in disagreement. “We’ve dragged on this case for too long, sweetheart.” He grabbed his hammer and smacked it on the table. “Order in the court.” The noisy hall slowly settled into a low buzzing sound and then pin-drop silence.
“The marriage of Mr. Ferdinand Gulious and Mrs. Sarah Ford is therefore dissolved by the courthouse, with Mrs. Sarah Ford on the basis of a******y. Case closed.” He smacked his hammer and the whole court stood in dismissal, forgetting that my life was just ruined and I had no say in the matter.

I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. ‘Beauty and proper’ were the last things on my mind. I didn’t care that I might currently look like a homeless person in front of the courthouse with my heels pulled off and my messy hair. I just craved a drink. A strong one. Whiskey or vodka would be my go to.
“You look miserable, Pumpkin.” I could recognize that voice anywhere.
“Get lost Ferdinardo!” I gave him the finger and quickly got to my feet. I didn’t want to head back to my apartment but I didn’t want to breathe the same air as the man whom I once loved.
“Ouch,” he held his chest in pretend pain, letting out a chuckle as he chased after me. “Pumpkin wait!”
“Don’t you dare call me that name,” I warned, increasing my strides to cover more land but it was of no use. I could feel him behind me.
“Wait I say!” His tone was turning violent and my heart was threatening to leap out of my body. I tried to run but I felt his fingers wrap around my wrist and draw me making me lose my balance and fall with him above me.
Pain shot through my body on impact with the tarred ground of the abandoned parking lot we happened to find ourselves. He was looking down at me with angry eyes that caused fearful memories to flood my mind. I closed my eyes to try and control them.
“Ferdinard, please let me go.” Tears were falling down my cheeks now as I tugged on my wrist which he held above my head and by my side.
“Look at me Sarah,” His voice was hard, showing he meant business.
Hesitantly, I opened my eyes, begging him silently. “Please.”
“Shut up!” He ordered me like he did with his men. I was swallowed in tears. “You tried to divorce me and steal half of my money. Was that your plan? Huh!”
I closed my eyes in fright. “But you were the one who filed-”
“Shut up! I don’t want to hear another word from you. This is your last warning Sarah. I’ll give you money. I need you to leave this town and never show your face here ever again. I don’t need Olive to have any problem adjusting to her new role as the wife of the Dom, which won’t be possible with you around.”
He finally let me go and stood to his feet. Arranging his suit and brushing off the dust as much as he can, he pulled out a brown envelope from his pocket and tossed it to me on the ground. The envelope laid between us with no one moving or talking.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked, finally unable to hide how vulnerable I actually was. Tears streamed down my eyes and sobs racked though my body becoming more violent when I tried to curb it. “I loved you so much Fred.
So much that, it hurts sometimes,” I clawed at my chest, squeezing it tight to try to reduce the pain I felt. “Why?”
He looked at me for a few seconds before turning away from me. “Never show your face before me and stay away from (insert an Italian mafia name) territory. You have 24 hours to disappear from here.”
He left without turning back or sparing me a second glance. With pain lurched in my heart at the betrayal, I picked up the envelope on the floor, against my ego, and stood up on shaky feet. It was real. It wasn’t a drill. My husband really left me for my younger sister. Fresh tears trickled down my eyes.
The vibration of my phone in the pocket of my jumpsuit drew my attention. Half-heartedly, I read the notification displayed on the lock screen.
