SARAH'S POV
“Avery, tell me what’s on your mind. I’m desperate,” I pleaded with Avery as she paced back and forth in deep contemplation.
“It’s too dangerous to risk it. We should just leave this city. That’s the best and safest option,” Avery suggested with begging eyes. Begging me to drop it and forget she ever thought up a crazy plan.
“Why should I leave? Your plan can get me to leave a normal life here with the people I love and care about. Your plan can save my marriage-”
“Don’t tell me you’re still in love with that bastard?” She sent me a death stare across the room causing me to zip my mouth shut. “Sarah?” She began to walk towards me when I didn’t answer. “Please tell me I’m an i***t for what I just said,” she was literally begging me now.
I hugged myself and refused to meet her gaze even when she knelt before me. “Do you still love him?”
I couldn’t deny it. A small part of me still hoped we could be together, still hoped that he would come back to his senses and return to the man I once married, and that he would leave my sister and come back to me.
My silence seemed to have given Avery her answer because she exhaled and bent her head in exhaustion. “If I don’t tell you my idea, you would go ahead and see Ferd, right?”
I remained silent. Guilty as charged.
“Okay,” her voice was low and filled with sadness with a hint of pity? “I’ll tell you what I thought of but you have to promise me something.”
My eyes pecked up in excitement. “Anything.”
“If things go south, run and call me.”
“Okay,” I agreed easily until I saw how serious she looked at me. “Fine, I promise.” This seemed to ease her a little because she opened her mouth and began to break down her idea for me to execute.

2 hours later…
The gates to the Gulious estate opened before me as I drove in. The guards didn’t make much of a fuss when they saw me.
Maybe they thought I wanted to pick up a few of my things before leaving completely, but jokes on them. I headed to Ferd’s bedroom to inform him that I was carrying his baby and he should let me stay under his protection if he wanted to see his child again.
I can’t believe how I didn’t think of using this child to my advantage. The idea of me having his child would definitely make him consider taking me back as his wife.
As I trailed up the spiral staircase, I couldn’t help but gently cuddle my tummy at the thought of Ford and I becoming a family again. The corridors were empty save for the staff that were found cleaning a few pictures and artifacts.
I walked up to Ferd’s door about to open it but it was opened before I could open it. Olive appeared before me, wrapped in a white towel.
Her hair messier than usual, her breathing rasp as if caught doing something she’s not meant, with hickies decorating her skin. I was appalled by the sight and the thought that she was banging Ferd minutes before I came.
“Oh.” She let out after her eyes finally acknowledged my presence. A taunting smile spread across her face as she closed the door a little bit closer to prevent me from seeing inside.
“What are you doing here? If it’s for your stuff, my husband had them sent away to the guest room downstairs. You might go there and pick up your things.”
I clenched my fist restraining my anger. “I came to see Ferd. I know he’s inside there.” I tried to push past her but failed miserably.
She pushed me on the floor instead, towering over me with a smirk on her face. She was always the athletic one, what was I expecting? “Let me see Ferd.” I was begging at this point.
“What kind of woman would allow another woman into her room to see her husband?” Olive displayed her fingers for me to see her engagement ring.
“He was my husband first!”
“He’s mine now. I guess you couldn’t keep him entertained enough for him to keep you.”
Blind rage clouded my judgement and I charged at my sister grabbing her by the hair, ready to rip off the entire thing. She too grabbed my hair and we got entangled in a messy cat fight.
I don’t know how long it lasted before I was roughly pushed aside by Ferd who rushed up from the stairs behind. My heart broke into shambles seeing him check up on Olive and not me.
I began to understand why Avery didn’t want me coming here to execute her plan. She knew I would be hurt all over again but I was too stupid to see it.
Olive has already begun showing, and it was no doubt that she was pregnant with Ferd’s child. The heir and future leader to the DANES mafia. I would always be secondary to her because my child wouldn’t be the first to come into this world.
I fixed myself up, ready to run before I drew Ferd’s attention. He was already making a call. He warned me, yet I refused to listen. Now I was about to pay for disobedience if they get me here.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw a small black memory card on the floor. I recognized it to have fallen from Olive when we were fighting. I grabbed it and ran immediately.
******
I wasn’t expecting to get so out of control. I had followed Avery’s genius plan to the Top, but yet I somehow ended up behind the wheel of a car I stole from my ex-husband’s garage, finding the quickest route I could use to leave the city.
I stole a quick glance and I could see two black vehicles that had been on my tail for five minutes now.
Is he that eager to get rid of me? It’s barely 24 hours.
I took a quick turn to the left, joining the upcoming stream of vehicles on the highway. Weaving in and out of the speed lanes, I couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit of appreciation to Ferd for forcing me to take defensive driving classes at one point in our marriage.
From the corner of my eyes, I caught sight of a tunnel and swiftly joined the lane that led to the tunnel. I could easily lose them there.
I was seconds away from the tunnel, driving at the highest possible speed when a black van pulled out of nowhere directly in front of the car.
Slamming my legs on the breaks and abruptly turning my steering wheel, the car swerved off the road clashing into the sides of the tunnel.
My body was sent forward and backwards in a violent motion as shreds of glass cut across my body on impact. The airbag was inflated, sandwiching me between the steering and drivers seat.
A high pitched noise kept ringing in my ears as I fought to keep my eyes open and try to free myself. But I had no more strength in my limbs and I was losing vision. The last thing I saw before my eyes went dark was a man pulling the door open.
