Prologue
THE NIGHT WAS DARK AND STORMY, and the wind howled through the trees. The full moon was obscured by thick clouds, but its pale light still illuminated the forest below. A lone figure stumbled through the woods, his clothes torn and his body covered in blood. He knew he was being followed, but he had no strength left to run. His pursuer was closing in, and he knew his time was running out.
He reached a clearing and fell to his knees, exhausted and defeated. The sounds of his pursuer grew closer, and he knew.
In his peripheral, he barely caught the semblance of a shadow, moving with undetectable speed, through obscurity that seemed to mold and blend in union with the unworldly.
His heart beat at an irregular pace; he could feel the anticipation creep through his veins as his eyes sought a flutter of motion; a slight rustling of shrubbery, anything to betray the beast
He smirked inwardly at the contrariness. The creature he sought was the ideal monstrosity of a child's nightmare, but he was tracking it, hunting it down like the prey it so maliciously ripped apart to feed its ravenous thirst
The night seemed to unfold in the creature's wake, coming alive with fear as the presence of an insidious form moved with incredible stealth in a circulating route. The creature was toving with him.
All fell to an uncanny stillness, and a deep sense of peril filled the air. His body tensed with a combination of mixed emotions-uneasiness and apprehension, but most of all, determination that can only be defined as relentless
The silence was unexpectedly shattered
by a fierce and violent shriek.
Aeris Greyhound found his canine protruding and his clawas emerging from within as a new surge of energy took over his once weak body. His muscles shifted, and his eyes became deep yellow.
He listened and waited for him to attack first, and when he was sure he was within range, he stroke back with a deep roar, aiming to s***h his claws at anything behind him.
But the beat was too fast, as he hauled back and was in that instant a couple feet away from him again.
A shallow laughter escaped from him, and Aeris focused intensively on his calculated movements. He was cunning. He would not give him a chance to bypass him.
"You unworthy human wolf!" He roared.
Aeris sensed the distaste and anger in him and made his fighting stance.
"It all ends here tonight, Alpha..." There's mockery in the beast's voice, "an eye for an eye they say?"
AIRA'S P.O.V
I hurried through the narrow cold stone walls, each time the thoughts of ripping my draping blue gown up to my knees to enable me to walk faster crossing my mind. My heart drummed against my rib cage loudly. I was starting to have difficulty breathing, but I couldn't stop. I have to save him. I still have to save him.
I looked back to see the tall figure looming over me as I ran. All I could see was the silhouette of him, his red eyes the only thing I could see in the dark.
"You should stop trying now, Aria," his voice is deep and challenging. "You knew this day would come."
No. No.... I would not allow this to happen.
I passed through the sharp corner that led to the Alpha's master bedroom. I stopped for a quick second to look at the outside brick steps that spiraled all the way up to the bedroom's balcony. That would be faster than going through the main door.
I looked back to see a more visible image of him. His hands are held out, his fingers pointed outward. I saw small sparks emerge from his fingertips. He was going to strike me down if I even attempted to take those steps.
So I broke into another run, dashing into the main door.
I'm met with the true chaos of the night.
There's blood spattered everywhere. The once spotless white room was now painted in red. Bodies littered the floor. I felt dizzy as I saw the deep slits on the necks of people I once saw walking this night. I held my stomach, holding back the urge to throw up.
"Aaaah!" I cried in pain as I felt a stinging sensation hit my back, and a force set me in motion, off my feet and crashing into the next wall. I don't spend another second pondering on the next move to make. I picked myself up and dashed through the nearest hallway.
I saw the door that led to Aeris's room. Yes.... he's okay.
As I got closer to the door, someone was thrown out, putting me to a halt.
It was Malfoy Greyhound, my mate's half-brother. Like always, he is dressed in all black.
He stumbles backward and caught sight of me, his eyes glistening for a second, surprise evident in them. He was surprised to see me. What did he do?
His forehead has blood gushing all over it, dripping down his cheek and smearing his blond hair across his face. Then, a tiny blood tickled down his nose, and my heart skipped a beat. What happened in there?
"Where.......where's Aeris?" I couldn't help it anymore.
Malfoy's breathing was fast and unsteady. Before I could say another word, I found myself flying across the room and colliding with the wall.
I heard the distant call of my name as I tried to lift my head and see what was happening. Everything was spinning, and my head felt heavy. I notice a larger body standing up front, his naked upper body backing me. I tried to look harder to see who it was. Aeris?
"No......." I tried to speak, "he's going to..... kill.....you...." I could barely hear my own voice.
I saw Aeris's face turn to the side like he was trying to look at me. Then he nods his head. My eyes were rolling to the back of my head when I saw Malfoy's face peering down into mine, his blue eyes analyzing my entire soul.
"Looks like you're coming with me, She-wolf..."
In one swift move, he's carrying me off the ground and placing me over his shoulder and speeding off. His last words resounded in my head as I blacked out.
