Chapter 3
Nova
“You f*****g bastard!” I yelled, rushing out of where I was hiding, grabbing Colins from behind and I threw him across the room.
He crashed into the wall, leaving a dent and a huge c***k on it. He lifted his hands, protecting his head. He fell to the ground, coughing and laughing hysterically simultaneously. He lifted his head to look at me, blood on his lips with an evil smile.
“Oh, Nova.” He sang, rising to his feet, dusting his body, and cracking his bones like I didn't just break them when I threw him across the room.
You must have figured it out by now, we are superhumans, Colins and I.
The experiments weren't just to study our brains; they were to enhance them and tweak them in ways that were not meant to be tweaked. Our ability to think was increased, our senses were spiked, and our strength was doubled. We were the stronger version of a regular human—or, as Marcus would say, the better version of a regular human.
We can lift heavy things without breaking a sweat, we can be stabbed and we won’t feel pain, we can be blown up and we would still walk out of the fire like it wasn't a big deal.
We were created for battles like this, we were created to withstand what a normal human can’t handle.
I wasn't the only smart one, Colins was like me. Smart, strong, vicious, and most importantly he lacks mercy, he kills without blinking an eye, so it’s no surprise they picked him.
But something doesn't feel right, why was he spared? Why were the others killed? Why is he trying to kill me?
“What the f**k do you think you are doing?” I grunted, my stance strong, ready to defend myself and attack in case he tried to attack me first.
He shrugged his shoulders before wiping the blood off his lips, “They wanted me, so I went with them.” he said nonchalantly.
“What the f**k! They killed everybody! They killed everyone, why are you working for them?” I rasped, hoping he had some explanation to enlighten me.
But he laughed like a lunatic, “Oh, Nova.” he sang again. “This is why you were not chosen, this is why they sent me to kill you, because you are dumb, so dumb, I can’t believe we went through the same process.”
I frowned. “So you are here to kill me? The death of the children that grew up with us? The lives of the innocent kids that had to die for no reason? They don't matter to you?” I rasped, confused.
“Oh, shut the f**k up, Nova! What about my life? Huh? I was seven! I was f*****g seven years when they took me! You think I went through all that pain, strapped to that table so I could die like a lab rat? No! Nova! This is why you and I are different, I see opportunity where you see flaw! Where you try to make sense of the situation, I see a way out! So yes they offered me a way out and I took it. I am here to kill you, Nova, let’s make this quick, okay?”
I frowned, clenched my fist, and felt my veins pop up as I glared at him. Collins was right, we were different. But we trained together, and I know his fighting skills better than he does, I trained him myself because he met me at the lab.
“I was three when they took me, it doesn't give me an excuse to work for the people that murdered children that were like siblings to us.” I paused as I glared at him, walking slowly, “They sent you to kill me?” I scoffed. “Did you forget how I used to beat your ass, throw you up the roof and break your bones which took you what, five days to heal? Give it your all because I won’t go easy on you.” I sneered.
“You talk too much.” He growled, dashing towards me. His speed caused the table next to him to crumble. Rushing towards me, I saw his hands move, I knew he was aiming at my left eye and I dodged before he could hit and punched his rib, breaking it. He healed almost immediately and then he threw another which I had also anticipated, I blocked it, twisted my elbow, and hit his jaw. I jumped and punched, aiming for his face but he was quick to dodge causing my wrist into the floor, causing it to c***k a great length.
I pulled it out almost immediately but not fast enough for me to avoid the kick Colin threw at me. I crumbled to the floor, he rushed over as he tried to stomp on me but I grabbed his ankle, hitting it hard for him to stumble and crash into the wall, causing the house to shake from the force at which I flung him. Which also gave me enough time to get up.
I pinned him down to the wall and I punched him, twice on his cheek, causing his jaw to c***k along with the house, bursting us to the other side of the room. As I lifted my fist to land the third hit, he pulled away, rubbing his jaw.
I got my stance again, glaring at him, “You seem to forget that I was the first prototype, Colin’s, I also trained you, you can’t beat me if you keep fighting like that. If you want to kill me you’re going to have to do better than that.”
He exhaled, “You’re right, I can’t beat you… but I can paralyze you enough to kill you… you know the bad side about fighting with someone who trained with you, they know almost everything about you… you know me, just as much as I know you.”
He pulled out a mini dagger from his waistband. f**k.
He knows… I am the only subject that still feels pain no matter how many times they try to numb it, it’s almost as though I was immune to feeling numb.
He rushed towards me, swinging the knife at me. I dodged over, causing the knife to drive into the table next to us, he yanked it out, and the force caused the table to split into two. Colin didn’t stop, knowing that was the only advance he had on me, he swung the knife again and I kept dodging, over and over until he got me, once and then twice and thrice until he cut almost every part of my body and each of them stung.
I crumbled to the floor, covered in my blood. And so did the house, partially.
Fuck!
“See, Nova, no matter how good you are, your weakness will always be your downfall… this is why they are getting rid of you.”
Fucking bastard.
I tried to move but something strange happened to my body. I should be able to get up, I should still be able to move but I couldn’t, it felt almost like that same day, the day the killing happened.
No way!
“Oh, did I forget to mention? The knife is covered on legrium. It will leave you paralyzed for hours. So when I set this house on fire and the burning starts, you will feel everything… Too bad.” He muttered.
“Co.. co..Colin’s … don’t.. don’t do .. don’t do .. this.” I whimpered.
“Don’t take this the wrong way, Nova, I just need to survive, I mean, one of us has to, right?” he patted my shoulder and walked away. “It was nice knowing you, Nova.”
The next thing I smelled was gasoline.
Fuck!
Fuck!!!
I tried to move but I couldn’t. Will I die like this? Again? Why? What did I ever do to deserve this? Why?
Why!!!!!
Why did we have to die like this?
Hot tears streamed down my eyes as I looked at the ceiling.
I closed my eyes, accepting death as the fire started.
Fuck! I don’t want to die!
I don’t want to die without making all of them pay.
I don’t.
“No..Nova!” I heard a struggling voice.
My brows furrowed.
“No…Nova… get up!”
I tilted my head slowly and I saw Julius, sitting with Sami in his hands, the bullet was still in him. He was weak but he was still alive.
“You have to get up, Nova,” he grunted, struggling.
“I … I can’t move.”
He got up, placing Sami on the ground, he went back to the cabinet and pulled out a bag. He returned to me as the fire grew, he carried me and led me towards the window.
“Get your revenge! Kill every last one of them! You must! Promise me that you will kill them all!” He held me.
“Ju.. Julius.”
“Promise me, Nova!”
“Go with … go with me,” I begged.
He smiled, “I Can’t, I want to stay with Sami… think of this as my way to pay for not protecting you and the other kids.”
“No!” I shook my head, holding him tight.
He pulled away, “Goodbye, Nova!” He threw me out the window and the house exploded.
No!!!
