Chapter 16

1043 Words
The next days after the call to Adrik,  Ophelia worked on the papers with the doctor. She didn't see the girls or talk to anyone. She just did her work. She would go to sleep later after most of the other and get an hour or two of sleep then back to the paperwork. She ate what the doctor would bring in for her because he wanted her to eat healthy and not the garbage that the others ate. The office door opened and it was late into the night. Ophelia thought the doctor decided to leave for the night but realized he had left hours before. She looked over and saw Tabnam standing there. "A little busy at the moment." She told him as she kept doing her work. She was lifted out of the chair as the last word came out of her mouth. "You know some of us have work to do. Can you not bother me at the moment." He didn't say anything besides pulling her out of the room. "Can I at least know where I'm going?" "My room. I have been gone for a while and heard you hide out in there. It's time you took a break." He said. She yanked herself free from him. "I'm not hiding away. And I'm doing just-." She started to yawn. He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. "You're going to bed. Even if that means tying you to it." He took her to his room and threw her on the bed. He walked into his closet and threw some clothes at her. "Put on something that you haven't worn for more than a day." she took off her clothes and put on the ones he gave her. She didn't care about him looking at her. He had seen her before and why shy away now. She laid in the bed and he got in after her. "Close your eyes. You are never going to fall asleep with them open." He put his arm around her to pull her into his chest for her to have the warmth to fall asleep faster. She did feel comfortable.  "I can't fall asleep." She said softly. "That's because you aren't trying hard enough." He grumbled. "I have a lot on my mind which makes it hard for me to sleep."  "I'm guessing that you haven't gotten over your short talk with that boy." "It's not just that though." She moved herself to look at his mask. "I found out I'm immune to the siren, and I worry about what will happen if someone is more injured than I can handle. I also question what you look like under there." "Your necklace looks like it protects you. When you carry something of value from another who gave it to you in value it has a way of protecting you. Injuries no one is able to handle, not even the doctor. Under here I'm hideous," he laughed, "but really there are days I want to walk around and be normal without anyone knowing I'm the captain." "Not even Ulyssa knows what you look like?" Ophelia gasped. "Not even her, pet." He chuckled. "Why do you call me pet?" She had to know. "You were pampered while you were going up like a pet." "No I wasn't." She raised her voice. "You don't need to yell, but compared to everyone else on this ship you were. You had a better life than them. Even if you don't believe it." He moved her head back to his chest and stroked her hair. "Please fall asleep." He said softly. It took a while, but she was finally able to fall asleep. After a few hours she woke up alone. She felt cold in the bed alone and couldn't get back to sleep. She decided to get up and go look at the stars. She went up to the observation room and got close to the glass to look out at the Galaxy. She didn't know he was there until he wrapped his arms around her. His gloved hands gave him away. "I couldn't sleep after you left the bed cold." She said to him. "I wasn't gone long. I'm sorry you woke up. Do you want to head back or keep watching the Galaxy as we go by?" She leaned her head back into his chest. Something felt like this where she needed to be. Something about him made her feel better about who she was and she wasn't afraid of being there now. She missed Adrik, but now felt comfortable with Tabnam. "Just a little while longer here feels nice." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in. He tightened his arms around her a little more. They looked out the large windows as the Galaxy slowly moved by. She yawned. "I think I'm ready to go back." He removed his arms from her body and slipped one of his hands into hers. They walked holding hands while headed back to his room. "I would like to ask you." As they stopped in front of the shaft. She looked over at him. "I am going out to get a new person and I would like you to go. I think it will help you understand how the Galaxy looks." "What is it that I have to do?" She asked, concerned. The shaft doors opened and they stepped in with Tabnam still holding her hand. "It's a bit of support for the girl and if I need any medical needs." He pulled her close as they stood in the shaft to take it to his floor.  "If you really want me there." She said. "I do." The door opened to the floor. They both stepped out and headed to his room. "When do we leave?" "In a few nights. We have to get closer to the planet before we can ship off to it." The got to the room door. It opened. "For now let's go back to sleep." He took her to the bed and let her get in and followed after her. He pulled her against his chest and she moved herself into his chest more.  They both fell asleep together.
