He'd almost forgotten Felix's occasional tendency to be caustic. “The fact that you went so far around the question tells me something, Felix. “Do you like Maxine back?” Felix flicked the lighter on and off a couple more times. “I'm not what she's looking for, Jonah.” “What?” “I'm not worth her hassle,” said Felix in a cool tone. “She can do worlds better than me.” “What the hell makes you say that?” asked Jonah. “First of all, Jonah, I'm poor,” said Felix. “Say what?” cried Jonah. “And they say that I'm a bad liar! You're a multi-millionaire, Felix—” “You misunderstand me,” interrupted Felix. “I'm poor in the regard that my money is all that I have. I haven't mixed well with people for a very long time. Why do you think I had to take a breather out here?
