CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
As I went along with her, I was glad for the opportunity to finally see where the injections were stored. Looking around the place, I saw high, glass-fronted cabinets holding several labelled vials. I made out the numbers marked in red across each tube: 1, 2, 3. I assumed they differed in strength and possibly composition. A few of them may have been the ones used for the placebo injections.
The nurse went to the cabinet, unlocked it with a key, and removed a #3 vial. She then used a hypodermic needle to draw out its contents and approached me. “Sit and roll up your sleeve. You know this only hurts a second.”
I followed her directions, taking a deep breath, as she injected the serum into my upper right arm. There was a quick, sharp pain and then she rubbed the area
