Kat handled my mother really well, and her background as a therapist might have contributed to that. But regardless of the reason, I was just ecstatic to see my mother smiling and genuinely happy.
It was heartwarming to witness them talking, but unfortunately, we couldn't stay for long. My mother's anxiety was obvious, and when I noticed her nervously glancing around, I knew it was time to leave.
I quickly made an excuse for our early departure, and as we bid goodbye, my mother surprised me by hugging Kat. Physical contact wasn't something she often welcomed, so this gesture caught me off guard but filled me with joy.
"Your mom is really sweet," Kat remarked as we walked to the car.
Stopping in my tracks, I turned to her and wrapped my arms around her waist. "Thank you."
