Secretary to the president(1)
The prologue to a story is always unintended, and the ending is often confusing.
Early Monday morning, Claire Harvey, director of human resources for Avon International, received a phone call.
.
After briefly exchanging a few sentences, the caller hung up, and Claire's respectful face faded, replaced by hesitation and difficulty.
Just as she thought deeply, Amy Rollins from the secretary's office came on the intercom.
"Claire, Leah can only last until this Friday at the most, and she has to go to the New York office next Monday to report to Vice President Steven." "As her replacement, I will recommend Alison Moore from Technology and Sophia Lee from Planning; what do you think?"
"Both of these senior secretaries are excellent choices." Claire thought for a moment, "What about Evelyn from Business? How is she?"
"Evelyn is also quite outstanding, with a gentle character, quick-witted and flexible, and top-notch professionalism. I was also interested in recommending her, but the company has a rule that this position must be held for more than three years at Avon International. She's only been here for two years, and her seniority is still shallow; I'm afraid she'll offend if she gets to the top."
Claire laughed, "Amy, you and I both know that Avon International's biggest advantage is its meritocracy; I think Leah was promoted out of the box back then, and the facts proved that Avon was pleased with her. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been promoted to Vice President of the New York office in just two years."
Amy, who had been practising in the workplace for many years, replied after hearing Claire's words, "You're right; Irving just doesn't follow those traditions. Let's do it this way: I'll recommend all three to you, and you weigh them."
"Fine, I'll find them all and talk to them. Ultimately, I can't decide on such a big matter, and it will have to be reported to Evan for him to decide." After hanging up, Claire sighed with relief.
About a quarter of an hour later, the announcement on the Avon International intranet was sent to every employee's mailbox, and the secretarial department decided to recommend Allison Moore, Sophia Lee and Evelyn as joint candidates for the position of President's Secretary. Evelyn, who had the least seniority, broke through to be selected, which more or less caused some discussion in the pantry.
Claire pulled up the three's past performance evaluations. After going through them individually, she met with Allison and Sophia first, and then it was Evelyn's turn.
This was the second time Claire had reviewed Evelyn's resume, the first time being when she was hired two years ago.
The notes on her résumé were much more straightforward than the first two. She had gone to England when she was fifteen, stayed there for seven years until she was twenty-two, returned home as an exchange student during her fourth year of college, graduated the following year and joined Avon's International Business Department, and a year ago, due to her excellent performance, was promoted to Assistant Senior Manager of the Business Department.
Claire didn't move to look at Evelyn, who was sitting across the desk. Her long, black, silky hair reflected her face like jade, her eyebrows were precise, and her eyes were focused and clear. She is about one hundred and sixty-five centimetres tall, wearing a light blue Chanel spring jacket and a knee-length skirt, fashionable but not losing its dignity and elegance,
Compared to the first time we saw her two years ago, she is less green, calmer, and serene.
In terms of appearance, although not as good as Evan's gorgeous girlfriend, but has a unique temperament, elegant and serene.
However, Claire has always loathed people who rely on nepotism to get to the top; if she had not considered that person's feelings, she would never have sat face-to-face with this young woman today.
So she coldly said, "Evan's original secretary went to work in the United States, so the company needs to recommend someone to replace her. Amy from the secretary department recommended Allison, Sophia and you; please tell me if you are interested in this job. Also, what do you think about the position of secretary to the president?" Evelyn didn't answer right away but thought for a moment.
This brief silence made Claire look at her in a favourable light.
Alison and Sofia had long ago made a mental note to perform at their best. It was essential to realise that the secretary to the president was a coveted position for all unmarried women in the company. Even if Evelyn wasn't interested in the president herself, the position of President's Secretary at Avon International was a three-step jump from her current position, and her power and salary would be on par with that of a senior executive.
But why was she acting different, not showing the slightest interest? Claire lowered her tone, "You can just say what you have to say." Evelyn smiled slightly, "I have the confidence to do this job well, but I don't know ...... if I'm suitable for this position." "Why do you have this concern?" "Because my boyfriend works for Nord, Claire, you also know that Nord has business dealings with our company; if I work beside the president, I will inevitably come into contact with some important projects and secrets; if something happens in the future, I am worried that I will not be able, to tell the truth."
Claire was genuinely stunned, and this situation was far beyond her expectations. "Your friend has a high position in the north?"
A large company often had tens of thousands of employees, and it was typical for a couple of lovers to be ordinary employees, even in the opposite company, unless both parties' positions were sensitive enough to make a difference.
Evelyn said calmly, "He's the CEO of Nord." Claire almost broke out in a cold sweat. Prince Lucas of Nord? "I see. You go back to work first. The results will be announced before the end of the day."
After Evelyn left, Claire hurriedly dialled the phone and yelled, "My good teacher, the person you recommended, let alone placed next to Irving, she's not even suitable to stay in the company, do you know that..."
This person didn't know what the other party was saying, so her whole body stood still as if she
Claire had already decided to go with the previous way of working. Evan never cared about such trivial things; he just needed the person she recommended to be helpful, and he didn't care who that person was. This time, however, she deliberately emailed him, who was out on inspection, briefly explaining that the secretarial department had recommended three people. After her interview, she felt that Evelyn was the most suitable, but she had a special status, so she asked for his instructions.
Seniority and background aside, in all fairness, Claire would still choose Evelyn. Because Alison and Sophia's ulterior motives were not lost on her, people are not yet on the throne, just candidates, after her three words of temptation can't hide the desire in the heart, can be seen as not mature and sophisticated.
On the other hand, Evelyn handled this matter with an ordinary mind. Given her boyfriend's condition and Irving's not far away, I do not think the boss should keep the fantasy of teenage girls in love in the future to avoid too many personal emotions, which can help Irving carry out their work smoothly.
Near the end of the day, the reply letter came, letting Claire know that in the future, such things do not need to be reported, to decide on their own. She then sent out an announcement on the intranet, and a second later, all of Avon International knew, and the mermaid named Evelyn from the business department jumped out of the water and stood out.
