Chapter 2 Restart

1102 Words
Daisy arrived at her best friend Bette's place and lightly knocked on the door. Getting no response, she dialed Bette's number. Bette, her childhood playmate whom she grew up with and who was practically like a sister to her, lived together. Due to her abrupt departure this time, Daisy didn't have time to find alternative accommodation and had to temporarily stay at Bette's place. When Bette answered the phone, there was a noisy background. "Bette, where are you? I'm at your doorstep right now. " "I'm at Rosy Bar. Why did you suddenly come here so late?" Bette had to raise her voice due to the loud background noise. After a moment of silence from the other end, Bette roughly guessed what had happened. Despite her male companion's efforts to keep her at the bar, Bette immediately put down her tequila, hailed a cab, and rushed back. Upon arriving, she saw Daisy's fragile figure leaning against the door, devoid of the radiance she had seen a few days ago. Not wanting Bette to see her current appearance, Daisy quickly put on a smile and joked, "I thought you were planning to stay out all night tonight, leaving me to spend the night on the streets alone." Hearing this, Bette hugged Daisy, gently teased her, and said, "Now that you're here, how could I continue to hang out with those people at the bar? You are the most important. Come in quickly, don't catch a cold outside." Once inside, Bette carefully examined Daisy then said: "It's only been a few days, yet you've lost so much weight, and there's no color in your face." Daisy pretended everything was fine and smiled, "It's nothing, just been tired lately. A good night's sleep will fix it." Bette, being experienced in matters of the heart, noticed Daisy's abnormality in an instant. "Did you break up with him?" Daisy was surprised that Bette could see through her emotions so easily and admitted the truth, "Yes, we broke up today." Bette gazed at Daisy's small face, sunken eyes, and pale complexion, feeling a sudden pang of heartache. She quickly hugged Daisy tightly and said, "Don't be sad, you still have me. A man who doesn't cherish you is not worth it." Upon hearing those words, Daisy couldn't help but tears welling up in her eyes. She returned the hug to Bette, gently patting her back, "I'm fine, please don't worry." Bette knew deep down that Daisy was just trying to comfort herself. Bette can see how much Daisy likes Lino. For the past three years, she has been around Lino almost every day, without her own circle. Except for working to pay off her debts, all her thoughts are on Lino. She foolishly thought that this would change Lino's impression of her. But in the end, she was mercilessly abandoned by Lino. Bette suddenly remembered the rainy night three years ago. Daisy's younger brother urgently needed a heart transplant due to congenital heart disease. After struggling to find a suitable donor, the high cost of the surgery left her brother in the ICU for days on end. In a panic, Daisy had no choice but to go to the highest-end entertainment club in X city to see if there was any way to make money. The people who came here were either rich or powerful, and it was on that night that she met Lino. Lino drank a lot of wine that day, and Daisy saw that he couldn't even walk properly, so she kindly sent him back to his room, but she didn't expect to give him her first time. That night, Daisy always felt that Lino was referring to someone else, and kept murmuring a name that she couldn't hear clearly. The next morning, Lino gave her six million and proposed to Daisy that she could be his lover, with a reward higher than last night. Daisy considered that her younger brother might need a second surgery and the high cost of recuperation could not be covered in a short time. After a strong ideological struggle, Daisy agreed to Lino's proposal. If Daisy hadn't gone out to raise money for her own brother, she wouldn't have met Lino. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to make it right again. Daisy didn't want Bette to be sad with her, so she gently pushed her away and smiled at her, "I haven't eaten your cooking for a long time. Would you be willing to cook a big meal for me today?" Bette felt relieved when she saw that Daisy was still as strong as before. She turned around and went to the kitchen to put on an apron. She said to Daisy, "Of course, I'll make you some delicious food and then have a good sleep. Don't think about anything else, okay?" Daisy nodded obediently and said, "Okay." Bette is always like this, being good to her unconditionally, like a ray of light that warms her life. She looked at the busy figure in the kitchen and walked slowly over to her. "Bette, I want to quit my job." Bette nodded in agreement and said, "It's time to quit. After all, It's Lino who introduced you to this job. Now that you've broken up, it's better to cut off all ties. Leave the money-making to me in the future." Daisy felt warm in her heart, knowing that there was someone who was infinitely kind to her at her most vulnerable time. After finishing the meal, she and Bette cleaned up the kitchen together and quickly fell asleep. The next morning, she put on makeup covered her pale face with thick powder, and got up to resign from the company. Daisy just sat down at her workstation and was about to turn on the computer to write a resignation application when she heard colleagues around her gossiping. "Did you hear that the daughter of our company's chairman will take over as CEO today?" "But she just graduated from abroad. Although she has a PhD from Cambridge University, she has no practical experience. Is she not afraid of being criticized for taking on the CEO position without any experience?" Suddenly, the office became quiet. Yes, although the daughter of the chairman of the board and has an excellent educational background, Terra is the world's tenth-largest financial company, so there is no room for carelessness in choosing a CEO. At that moment, Nancy from the advertising department snorted and said, "Who would dare to gossip about her? She is Lino's first love." Upon hearing Lino's name, Daisy's hands paused on the keyboard.
