CHAPTER TEN Her shoes squeaked throughout the entire, chilly, two-mile walk. The noise created a backbeat rhythm she hummed along with until she stood in front of the hospital’s double doors and realized there would be no sneaking up on her sister. Becca worked in the ICU. It wouldn’t be easy to get to her floor without being seen, especially heard. Maybe the blanket she squeezed with icy fingers could help pass her off as a patient. “Hello,” Linda said when she reached the Nurse’s Station. “I’m looking for Becca Wood.” “You just missed her,” a young nurse replied with a generous smile. “In fact, she’s out for a couple of weeks on a well-deserved vacation.” What?
