Ethan's grandmother hung up after delivering her message.
He clutched his phone tight and his mind began to imagine the worse. His palms became sweaty and his heart raced extremely fast.
Daisy on the other hand stared at him with a confused look on her face. She wondered what the person had to said to him over the phone that got his face looking so pale. She wanted to ask but she knew Ethan would not give her a reply. They barely knew each other yet she felt so concerned about him. It was like his problem had become hers.
Ethan's next action took her off guard, he grabbed Daisy by the wrist and slowly led her out of the forest without the both of them saying a single word to each other.
It was not like Daisy did not have questions, she did. She had a lot of things to ask but she could tell Ethan was not in the mood, he looked angry and it was like she was walking on a fragile surface. Ethan was her only way out of the forest so she kept reminding herself that she had to treat him like an egg.
Ethan successfully led her out of the forest and even before she could express her gratitude to him. He began to run towards the direction of the Lunar pack house. Daisy did not bother, she wanted to run after him but she controlled herself because for some weird reason, a voice in her head kept telling her that she would cross paths with Ethan again.
Ethan finally made it to the pack house, he pushed the guard out of the way and stepped into the hallways. He ignored every attention he gained from the maids and servants lurking around the hallways.
Ethan made his way up the stairs and froze right in front of his grandmother's room. He contemplated on whether to knock or not. He could hear the indistinct chattering noise coming from the room and a familiar scent immediately hit him. His wolf sniffed the air harder until it was able to recognize the scent of his twin brother, Aiden.
Was Aiden back already? Ethan wondered. His grandmother told him that his twin brother would be returning tomorrow. Why was he back earlier than planned?
"Do not just stand by the door boy? Go in!" His grandfather's voice startled him from behind. He turned around to gaze at Roland, his grandfather walking towards him with a tired look on his face.
Unlike his grandmother, Roland was weak and fragile. His old age was messing with his strength and he could no longer walk without a stick as support.
"Roland, Grandmother called me saying something horrible happened. Is everything okay? Why is Aiden back home earlier than planned?" Ethan fired questions at Roland who just sighed in response and said "Why do you not go ahead and see for yourself?"
Without wasting anymore time, Ethan pushed the door open and all the eyes in the room settled on him. His twin brother was lying on the bed with his shirt soaked in dry blood, Aiden looked badly injured and his entire face was covered in sweat. Poppy, their grandmother stood besides Aiden with a stern look on her face. She was one to hide emotions.
"What happened?" Ethan asked, he rushed towards Aiden and the sight of his twin's blood irked him.
"How come you could not sense that Aiden was under an attack? You both are twins and you share a bond. You should be able to tell when your twin is under attack!" Poppy roared angrily. She smacked Ethan by the shoulder and groaned in frustration.
"The both of them have not been communicating with each other." Roland spoke. "They are losing their twin connection gradually."
"That does not matter right now. I am safe here now so there is nothing to worry about." Aiden said. He paused to wince in pain and he shut his eyes close for a brief moment before continuing "I am elated to be here."
"Why though?" Ethan's next question caused Poppy and Roland to gaze at him with surprised looks on their faces.
"I mean, you said you were coming tomorrow? Why did you not just wait till say break? Now look at what you have done to yourself? You could have died Aiden! When are you going to stop making reckless decisions for yourself?" Ethan roared in anger.
Aiden scoffed, he was not surprised by his twin's outburst. Ethan always liked to seize the slightest opportunity to scold Aiden, at least so Aiden thought.
"You do not sound happy to see me at all Ethan? Why?" Aiden managed to ask. Ethan sighed and rubbed his temple in frustration. He was happy to see his brother, he was not just prepared. Ethan was scared about having to tell Aiden that he was chosen by their grandparents to be Alpha of the pack. It was Aiden's dream and he had always shown interest in it way before Ethan had.
Aiden trained hard, worked hard. He lived his entire life trying to please his grandparents just so they would pick him as Alpha. Ethan's fear was that Aiden would hate him if he found out that he was chosen as Alpha.
"I already called the pack doctor and he would be here any moment from now. Asides that, I am glad Aiden is already healing slowly. It is nothing serious so you boys better drop the argument and act happy to see each other." Poppy scolded them with a scowl on her face.
Aiden smiled while Ethan kept a poker face on.
"Where are your bags? I will help you move them into your room while you rest here." Ethan said. His eyes roamed the room and it landed on a lot of suitcases arranged properly. If he were to judge by the luggages in front of him, Aiden most likely planned to stay a lifetime here.
He decided to move Aiden's backpack first when a piece of paper fell out of the side pocket. Ethan scrunched his brows in confusion and slowly picked up the piece of paper. He gazed at it suspiciously and it was a picture of a symbol, the same symbol he had seen on Daisy's wrist and that was when it occurred to Ethan that the symbol belonged to the members of the Phoenix pack.
A rival pack to the Lunar pack. The same pack that had murdered Ethan's parents.
