Andrew has been my Sophia's boyfriend for two years now. They have been friends since they were little and decided to date each other when they entered high school. Sophia wanted to wait till they finished high school before dating but Andrew had promised that he will behave, and stay quietly beside her, as long as he gets to be his girlfriend.
Sophia had thought nothing odd about it, if anything, she also had a crush on Andrew, so why wait till college when they can become exclusively each others. Sophia has always told Mia, that she would marry Andrew. It's a known fact in the Winters household that Andrews Williams has captured the heart of the heiress.
Sophia has always been focused and when her grades were not affected because she had a boyfriend, her parents couldn't protest anymore. As long as they were concerned, Andrew is like a son to them, and if he ends up getting married to Sophia tomorrow, then the bonds between the two families will be strengthened.
Sophia's father could care less on whose son, his daughter is dating as long as she is happy. She trust his daughter and he knew that his daughter, though looks fragile, has the strength of an ox. Sophia tells her family whatever happened to her, she hides no secret from them.
That was how the family got to know of he new boy, called Sebastian Groves. Though Sophia, hasn't directly said it, but they perceived her distaste from her voice. They wondered if this boy, had done anything to do daughter unintentionally.
Sophia's mother told her husband not to worry about their daughter, it's a good thing that someone could challenge her intellectually, that way she would know that not everything will go her way.
Sophia came back from school grumpy. Anyday, she had an invisible argument with Sebastian, she is always like that. She hasn't been this grumpy before and it's because of that boy. Andrew was asking her questions but her mind wasn't there, she was thinking about what her principal said to her that afternoon. She doesn't know what to make of it. She has waited like he asked, and he had asked her,if it was possible for her withdraw from the competition and she has asked him why.
Her principal told him because Sebastian Groves needed the exposure, for his college application. He had gone ahead to tell her, that he knew he was kind enough, since her college application was ready to be submitted.
The principal was right, no doubt, but she hated that she had to concede without trying. And at that moment, she hated Sebastian Groves, not because she was forced to alienate herself from the competition but because she wouldn't have the opportunity to compete fairly with him again.
Sophia opened her eyes, when the sound of music stopped, she can't believe that she had thought of Sebastian all the way home, she had promised herself that she wouldn't let him or anything about him, eat her up, now she felt annoyed with herself. Because Andrew has been speaking to her but she wasn't listening to him. She looked at him, and saw his worried look.
‘Are you sure, you are okay, Soph?’ Andrew asked her, looking at her with worried eyes.. ‘yes, I am. Im so sorry, dre, I was just lost in my thoughts.’ ‘Care to share?’ he asked, raising one of his eyebrows. ‘Nothing much, just normal stuffs, she continues, Are you staying fir dinner?’ ‘No, not today, I have homework to finish and you know how i feel about you doing my homework?’ Andrew answered.
‘Okay then, see you tomorrow.’ Sophia ended as she hugged him, goodbye and waited till Andrew drove off.
It was dinner time, when Sophia came downstairs for food. Everyone was already at the table, its become somewhat of a ritual to eat dinner together as a family. It helps the family to bond together.
After dinner, Mia told the family that Sophia was called to the principals office, it was as if she wanted to know if Sophia has committed am offence but her parents asked her if there was a competition that was coming up.
Sophia laughed and jokingly, told her, that she had gotten into a fight, that has landed her in a week's detention. Her mother had laughed with her, and said she would love to see the day, where she would be called to school because Sophia had a fight in school. Mia has been disappointed because that was not what he wanted to achieve.
How can someone be so perfect? She asked herself. Sophia hadn't been in a fight before, and if she was it was always because she was protecting her.
Mia hated Sophia for it. She hated her because she had loving parents, she hated her because she had a boyfriend who she was crazy in love with, she hated her because she was good in her academics, she hated her because she had many friends who love her, she hated because she was beautiful. In fact, she hated everything about Sophia.
Sophia went ahead to tell her parents what her principal said about the competition, but she didn't mention that he played for her not to participate, because she knew that her parents would not take it lightly bringing the issue to school and maybe escalating the matter. She told her parents not to worry that she is not interested in the competition, that she has other competitions to prepare for that are more important. Even though, her parents knew that something was amiss, they accepted her excuse and left it like that.
The next day during lunch, the principal called in Sebastian Groves and Sophia winters into his office. He asked them if they were ready for the test, that they would be writing that day to get a winner that would represent their school in the competition.
Sophia had answered that, she was ready while Sebastian had nodded, his head.
Sophia had told her principal that she was not interested in the participation of the competition.
Sebastian was shocked because, Sophia wasn't the type to run away from a fight, he had asked her, her reasons but Sophia, had ignored him and continued speaking to her principal.
‘i went home and checked the date of the competition, and it colludes with the day, my team and I, are having a chess competition. My team is among the three top teams that will representing our country, I promised to clear my schedule for them and participate with them, so I don't see any reason to write the test, since I can just withdraw from it.’ she concluded.
The principal said okay, if you are sure and had asked her to go. Sophia excused herself and went back to her class.
It wasn't a lie that she had a chess competition on the same date with the debate. If it was just her, she would have forfeited the chess games for the debate but seeing as her school had someone else now, that made her happy. Now, she could indulge in activities she hasn't been free to participate on for a longer time.
Sophia has missed her own personal activities and interests because of the school curriculum. She had activities outside of school that she was interested in. Her Scrabble and chess clubs were activities, she participated in, outside of her school. And she had other interest too.
Now, she understands the reason, why her Nana said that the world is big enough to contain everyone. There was no need to envy others, no need to be jealous of others, no need to be mean and no need to act selfishly.
She realised that her principal would have just called Sebastian Groves and asked him to represent the school without giving her the opportunity and the chance to choose, that means that the school, regards her equally the same as Sebastian. No one took no one's attention nor popularity. She decided that she has a big heart, big enough to accommodate another champion. Moreover, sharing is caring.
