***Kat's POV***
:Sorry, I just logged in. I'm looking forward to Friday too.: I actually was looking forward to Friday, I wondered what my friends would make of him, feeling better that I had sent a message I went back to scrolling through stuff, just to see two alerts pop up. A new message....and I was virtually poked again.
:Can I ask why you were so surprised when I asked you out?: Jake was the one to poke me, so I poked him back, and thought about the best way to answer his question, but evidently I took to long and was poked again with another question. :I mean, I don't want to force you into anything, but I really would like to spend time with you, if that's okay.:
:It's alright, it's just I thought for sure that you had a girlfriend or something. I just really wasn't expecting it at all, especially considering how pretty some of the girls I work with are.: I poked him back, I didn't understand these poking wars that people got into, but didn't mean I would let it go and not poke back, seriously where are these virtual fingers poking, I'm kind of uncertain if I want to know the answer, but it's easier to focus on that than waiting on an answer.
:Nope, no girlfriend yet or anything else, though I wouldn't mind changing that for the right person...and what are you talking about with your co-workers? They don't hold a candle to you, and you are more fun to pick on, especially when you blush.: I took exception to that, since I normally never blush, but Jake seemed to make me do it regularly. :Soooo...am I keeping you from thinking of that person you shouldn't be thinking of or is it okay to think of them now?:
:How would you know the right person? And did you have to bring that up? I don't normally blush that much, and I'm still not sure why you keep getting me to do that.:
:I don't believe that for a moment about the blushing, and as for the right person....well I've had my eye on this one girl, she's smart and funny, a very hard worker, absolutely gorgeous, and blushes so nicely. Nice dodge on answering my question btw:
:I think you are imagining things. I know no one that matches that description.:
:Well, I can be more specific if you can't think of this person, she's about 5'7", at a glance I'd have to say about 120lbs, long brown hair that I bet looks amazing down, pretty brown eyes....works at a cafe and makes the best smoothies there of anyone. Also have a date with her on Friday night.:
I had to pause and reread this, I wasn't sure if he was being honest, or was the biggest flirt known to man or woman. Part of me was flattered, but part of me was cautious, as he seemed to good to be true.
:uhm thank you but I think you are giving me way too much credit. I gotta head to bed, got another opening shift. Closing shift on Friday, see you tomorrow?:
:Tomorrow is my day off, gonna go out snowboarding while I have the chance with some friends, so probably not, but I will definitely see you on Friday, sweet dreams.:
I headed to bed, a little disappointed, but at the same point, I needed to clear my head a little from his flattery, I still wasn't sure if I should believe him. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Still, it was a nice moment to enjoy, thinking that someone like him could actually be interested in me.
*******
I ended up getting a break from Nessa as it was her day off as well, and ended up listening to the others chatting, Thursday and Fridays were usually oddly slow, at least with the shifts I normally got, but I didn't mind Friday night shifts too much, my mom wasn't much of a drinker, so she didn't mind watching Lily sleep while I would go out for a drink or two with my friends. I was always very careful, sipping a beer over the course of an hour or two, and if I had anything harder, there was always some one who was agreeing to be dd to make sure no one did anything too stupid.
Thursday and most of Friday passed in a blur, before I realized that I hadn't told Jake where we would be going, and normally I'd head over shortly after finishing my shift. I glanced at the clock realizing that there were only a couple hours till the store would be closed, and I that if he wasn't online I wouldn't have anyway to let him know where to go. I was pondering to myself what the best route to take was when I was suddenly poked in the side, making me jump and glare at the person who did it. Jake didn't appear phased at all by my dark look, if anything he started laughing harder at me.
"Well that wasn't quite the welcome I was looking for, but that was totally worth it. Kind of remind me of a little kitten with your fur all puffed up now." He finally calmed down enough to say around his laughter.
"Seriously what is it with you and poking me?"
"I'll use anything I can to get your attention now. Which, I didn't see you online last night and I don't have your number so I didn't know exactly where we were supposed to go to meet your friends tonight." I nodded a bit looking away a little.
"Yeah, I was kind of tired so I forgot to go online. We usually meet at Sawbucks cause my friends know the lady that does the karaoke there. They should be there in a bit, but I still have another couple hours till we close."
"That's fine, if you don't mind I'll stay here and keep you company until you have to kick me out, and then I can follow you over there? I don't go out often so not sure where that is."
"Yeah that's fine, I haven't had anyone go with me before so I forgot to tell you about it."
"It's alright dear, I'm just happy that you agreed to let me come with you." His smile was warm and almost peaceful as he looked at me. "I'll just sit in the corner with a magazine until you need to kick me out, I don't want to distract you or get you in trouble."
"There's no one here to care really, as long as I get you out before the doors need to be locked we are good. You can talk too, I can talk and clean up, and really there isn't that much more to be done."
With that, I found myself slowly relaxing more and more around this man with the wicked smile and thoughtful eyes.
