Tracy’s POV
I blinked my eyes open, the soft morning light filtering through the curtains and casting a warm glow across the room. Confusion washed over me as I took in my surroundings. This wasn’t the hospital room I remembered. This was my room, the one I had in high school. How did I get here? The last thing I remembered was the screeching tires and the blinding headlights of an oncoming car.
My heart raced as I struggled to make sense of it all. I should be in a hospital bed, recovering from the accident. But here I was, lying in my childhood bed, unscathed.
With trembling hands, I pushed myself into a sitting position, my gaze darting around the room. Everything looked as it did years ago. Posters of my favorite bands adorned the walls, my desk cluttered with textbooks and doodles. It was as if time had stood still.
A surge of panic gripped me as I realized the implications of where I was. How was this possible? Was I dreaming? Or worse, had I somehow slipped into an alternate reality?
A flicker of movement catching my eye interrupted my thoughts. My heart skipped a beat as I turned towards the calendar hanging on the wall. With trembling fingers, I reached out and flipped through the pages until I found today’s date. My breath caught in my throat as I stared at the numbers in disbelief. It couldn’t be. This date... it was years in the past.
I stumbled out of bed, my legs shaky beneath me as I made my way to the full-length mirror in the room's corner. What I saw reflected at me left me speechless. It was me, but not as I knew myself now. This was a younger version of me, fresh-faced and free of the lines and worries that had come with age.
I reached out, touching the smooth skin of my cheeks as if to confirm that this was real. How was it possible?
As the realization washed over me, a flood of emotions threatened to overwhelm. Fear, disbelief, but also a glimmer of hope. If I had indeed been reborn into my younger self, then perhaps I had the chance to make things right. To undo the mistakes of my past and forge a new path forward.
But with that opportunity came uncertainty. What did this mean for the life I had left behind? And what dangers lurked in this unfamiliar world?
As I stood there, grappling with the enormity of my situation, one thing became obvious. This was just beginning a journey unlike any I had ever imagined. And whatever lay ahead, I was determined to face it head-on.
The familiar sound of my mother’s voice calling me for breakfast pulled me out of my reverie. With a sigh, I tore myself away from the mirror and hurried to the bathroom to freshen up. As I splashed cold water on my face, I couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that lingered within me.
Once I felt presentable enough, I made my way to the living room where my family was already gathered around the table, the tantalizing aroma of pancakes filling the air.
“Good morning, sweetheart,” my mother greeted me with a warm smile as I took my seat. “I hope you slept well.”
I returned her smile weakly, my mind still reeling from the bombshell she had just dropped. As I mechanically buttered my pancake, my father cleared his throat, drawing everyone’s attention.
“I have some news,” he announced, his expression serious. “Alexander paid us a visit yesterday. He expressed his intentions to marry you, Tracy.”
The fork froze midway to my mouth, my heart plummeting to my stomach. Alexander. The name sent shivers down my spine, conjuring memories of betrayal and heartache. How could he have the audacity to show his face here, let alone propose to me?
I felt a surge of anger rising within me, but beneath it all lay a seed of doubt. If I knew what awaited me in the future, did I have the power to change it? Would accepting his proposal to alter the course of events, or was it merely postponing the inevitable?
Lost in my thoughts, I barely registered my father’s next words as he continued.
“He’s a successful businessman, Tracy. Marrying him would ensure a life of luxury and comfort for you.”
Luxury and comfort... were they worth sacrificing my happiness for? I glanced around the table at my family, their expectant gazes weighing heavily on me. They only wanted what they thought was best for me, but did they truly understand the gravity of the situation?
“I’ll... I’ll think about it, Dad,” I replied finally, forcing a smile that didn’t reach my eyes. “But I can’t promise anything.”
He nodded understandingly, but I could sense the disappointment lurking beneath his facade.
“Take your time, sweetheart. Just know that we only want what’s best for you.”
As the conversation shifted to lighter topics, I pushed aside my inner turmoil and focused on the food in front of me. But beneath the facade of normalcy, a storm was brewing within me. I had a decision to make, one that would alter the course of my life irrevocably. And in this case I knew that I really needed the help of others to deal with Alexander. It was clear that I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life with him knowing what the future would bring. He would cheat on me and ruin all those marriages and promises. There was no way I was going to let myself get caught in the same loop. I'm grateful for finally being able to be reborn in a very young version of myself. I felt that I had time to think about all this. I could do anything to get my revenge, even if I had to go to the extreme in this case.
