CHAPTER 4

**LIAMS POV**** “Mr.stone it’s time for school, honey” Maria, our housekeeper was gently nudging my shoulder. “I’m not going today, Maria” I’m mumbled back to her unwilling to open my eyes. I’ll be the first to admit I probably had one too many drinks last night, I don’t even remember what time I got home. “Sir, your father will throw a fit you know that.. please, it’s Friday and then you have the weekend” I groaned in response and then rolled out of bed. Maria just gave me an approving nod as she walked out of the room. I hated that f.ucking school and all the people in it. They’re all stuck up and miserable. My “father” (if you could even call him that because he was rarely ever around other than to yell at me for not living my life correctly) loves to remind me that I should be more like them. Forcing me to follow in his footsteps. Maria had to laid out an ironed uniform for me and a cup of black coffee. I took the coffee and walked out back for a cigarette. I looked to the hammock that Nicole tends to sit on in the evenings reading a book. I couldn’t get a read on her. Not that I care. But something about her is so captivating to me. The dip of her cupids bow, the curve of her hips, the way she always looks slightly annoyed. It’s infuriating that I continue to think about her. She certainly doesn’t fawn over me like some of the pathetic girls in our school. Pulling myself out of thought, I went inside quickly pulling that abomination of a uniform on. Only one more year. I grabbed the keys to my Range Rover and went to school. Every day on my way to school I passed Nicole. I didn’t like her walking alone every day but it’s not my problem so I pushed that thought out of my head. *** I hopped into my car glad the day was over as I started my engine. Didn’t know what trouble I was going to get into tonight but I’m sure trouble would find me regardless. On my way home I noticed 3 sketchy looking guys lingering on … Nicole’s path home. s**t. I shouldn’t care. It’s not my business. But .. f***k. At the next traffic signal I made a U-turn, wheels screeching in the process. ******NICOLES POV ******* My first week of school pretty much went how my first day did. Not much talking to anyone, the looks and whispers I’ve been getting from everyone have not subsided and I’ll admit it was starting to get to me. Although Amanda did start sitting with me at lunch. We didn’t talk much. She really did just seem like she was in her own little world the majority of the time. She reminded me Luna Lovegood good from Harry Potter with her quirky personality, but the company was still nice, and she was sweet. I hadn’t had many encounters with Liam again this week other than me noticing him always brooding in first period and just looking generally angry. I honestly don’t know what his problem was, but he seemed to have a dark aura about him. My mind frequently wondered to the encounter in my backyard the first day of school. Wearing black ripped jeans and band T-shirt, definitely wasn’t what I expected from somebody who apparently came from such a prestigious family. He had trouble written all over him. Mom and dad have been gone most nights at business dinners or meetings. I’ve just been lonely. It was Friday though, and I had plans to get off of the house to try out this cafe and explore the town. As the last bell rang, I swiftly left the school and began my walk home for a change of clothes. On my walk home I felt my phone vibrate and pulled it out. Thomas : Hey, can we talk tonight? Me: Since when do you need permission to talk to me silly? Thomas: Yea I know. Sorry. I’ll call you tonight. Me: is everything ok? Thomas: I’ll just explain everything later. Got to go. Football practice. I sighed and just didn’t respond. We used to talk 24/7 and now it’s like he doesn’t even make time to text me. When he does it’s short responses. Thomas and I have been dating since freshman year. This year I was finally ready to go all the way with him, he had wanted to junior year but I just wasn’t ready. My mom told me she would buy me a plane ticket to visit soon and I was excited to tell him but he really hasn’t even given me the chance. Lost in thought on my walk home, all of a sudden black range rover with all tinted windows abruptly stopped right beside me. “Get in, Bookworm” I heard I familiar voice come from the front seat. I must’ve been looking at him like he had lost his mind because he snapped “I don’t have all day get in”. “Ummm .. I .. I’ll walk, thanks” I replied. Who does he think he is bossing me around. I barely know him. I don’t just get I the car with random people. As if!! I saw his jaw tick and his expression shift. “Get in the car Nicole, I’m driving you home. End of story” he said leaving no room for argument. I looked at him wary for a second but I could see as time went on he was growing more annoyed. I decided I guess it couldn’t hurt to have him drive me home today. Plus, I did note that was the first time he ever used my real name. “Okay” I said, reluctantly “but why” I asked as I was already walking towards his passenger door. His jaw ticked again, and he rolled his eyes. “Seatbelt” is the only answer I got from him and we drove in silence. I can’t believe he was acting annoyed when he is the one that told me to get in the car. It was a comfortable silence, surprisingly, I didn’t feel awkward at all, though I did have a lot of questions. Most importantly, why am I in his car? The car stopped in front of my house, and we sat there in silence for a second. I didn’t really know what to say. “Um… thanks, I guess” I muttered, while stepping out of his car. “I’m picking up and dropping you off from now on” he replied. “What? Why? No! It’s fine, really!” I started to protest. “Because I did so .. end of story” he replied, looking bored. My jaw nearly dropped, I was just looking at him, stunned when he abruptly said “Are you just going to stand there or close the door?” I rolled my eyes, close the door then went into my house. I will deal with that a different time. As for me now, I am going to get changed and find out what there is to do around here. I changed into some light wash jeans shorts, and a black crop top. Looking in the mirror I decided to add a little bit of winged liner and threw on my black vans before I walked out the door. I know I needed to get a car, and it’s not like mom and dad wouldn’t get me one at this point, but I kept feeling like they were trying to pay me off so I was not going to ask. ***** Walking around the downtown area trying to find the café I read about I noticed a group of popular girls from school. Molly, the queen bee recognized me immediately as her and her posse sauntered up. “Aw, look who finally decided to show her face out and about, walking here I’m assuming since you’re the only senior without a car” Molly said, with a sickeningly, fake, sweet voice as the posse of girls behind her started to giggle. “Um yeah.. well Im going to get going now” I said trying to sidestep them. Everybody knew she had a weird obsession with being cruel for no reason. Before I could sidestep them, Molly grabbed my wrist as she got inches from my face “I don’t know who your mom spoke to or slept with to get you in Geneva. But you don’t belong there and you’re not one of us.” She sneered. Hot tears started to fall down my face. I knew what everyone thought of me at school, but to hear they not only thought that about me, but my parents too. It was just too much and I wish my parents would just put me into public school. Before I could say anything, I felt a large hand, grip my shoulder and pull me into an embrace “Hey babe, I’ve been looking for you.” I was shocked when I realized it was Liam’s voice.
