Brielle followed Nikolai out of the lecture hall and towards his office.
She rubbed her palms on her dress when she felt them beginning to sweat and cursed inwardly.
The fact that Nikolai had recognized her and was willing to talk should have reassured her so why was she so nervous?
“I can hear your heartbeat. Relax, I don't bite,” he teased as he stopped in front of a door on the administrative floor.
Brielle let out a nervous laugh and shook her head. “I'm alright.”
He made a sound but opened the door and let Brielle walk in first. He followed suit and shut the door behind him.
“Sit,” he told her and she sank into a chair, resting back. “Can I get you anything? Tea? Coffee? Juice? Water?”
She shook her head. “No I'm fine thank you,”
He shrugged and walked over to his seat. When he was sitted, he looked at her.”How have you been?”
“Good,” she gulped, debating on the best way to present her news. “There's something I need to tell you.”
He sat back and she cleared her throat.
“That night after you left, you forgot your wristwatch,”
He raised an eyebrow. “That's why you wanted to see me?”
She shook her head. “No,” she let out a laugh. “Actually, I received big news a month ago that I need to talk to you about,”
“I'm listening,”
“I'm…”
The door opened just then and a petite blond woman walked in carrying a folded in her hand. “Mr Jacobs, the meeting is about to start. Here are the files you asked for,”
Brielle shrank back in her seat and beat herself up mentally for being too cowardly to say what she had to.
“I’ll be there shortly.” he told her and rose to his feet. She dropped the folder on the table and left, shutting the door behind her.
Brielle stood up and picked up her bag. “I think I should go. We'll talk some other time.” She turned to leave but he held out his hand stopping her.
“Hold on,”
She watched quizzically as he scrubbed something on a piece of paper.
“Here you go.”
She took the paper he was giving her and read it's content. “What is…?”
“That's my address. You should stop by later and we can talk better.”
She nodded and turned to leave. Then she turned to face him again. “Thank you,”
She ran out of the office, her face flushed red. Nikolai's laugh reached her eyes before the door slammed shut behind her.
“You're such a coward Brielle,” she scolded herself as she walked back to the dorms.

Brielle pulled down her blouse and scowled when it bounced back up again.
“Am I getting fat already?” she mumbled to herself as she walked up to the gate.
She knocked a few times and a minute later, it was opened by a huge man with kind eyes.
She shivered as she looked him and took a step back. “I'm here to see Mr. Jacobs,”
“May I see some id?” He asked and she fumbled in her bag pulling out the plastic id she carried around for identification.
He looked at it and then let her pass. She sighed as she walked past him, feeling free. She took in the surroundings marveling at the beautiful rose garden she walked past.
Everything looked homely and she walked further until she was staring at the majestic house.
Gulping, she made her way to front door and knocked softly once. She waited for a response before knocking twice in quick succession.
She stepped back when she heard footsteps from within and waited.
The door opened and Nikolai's smiling face greeted her. “Hey,” he stepped back. “Come in,”
She coughed and walked in, once again taken aback by the beauty of the interior of the house. “Your home is lovely,”
“Thank you Brielle. Please come in.”
She flushed at the mention of her name and allowed him lead her inside. She frowned when he opened the door to his office.
“Let's talk in here, it's more private,” he explained when he saw her look.
She grunted and walked in, taking one of the seats.
“I'll go get some refreshments for you. Just sit and relax.”
Her eyes wandered round the room, shaking her head at the rows of books she could see.
Some she recognised but others were new to her. Her curiosity got the best of her and she walked over to one of the shelves.
She trailed her fingers across the shelves as she walked around, taking note of the different topics she could find.
A crash in another part of the house caught her attention and she jumped at the sharp sound.
“What was that?” She wondered as she walked to the door.
She head another crash and then a scream.
“Why don't you care about me anymore Nik? We've been married for four years!”
Brielle's eyes widened and she covered her mouth so she didn't accidentally make a sound. Her baby daddy was a married man?
“What do you want from me Maria? I'm not the giver of kids. It's not like we can harvest them. I proposed adoption but you refused.”
“That's because I want to have my own kids naturally,”
“Well what do you want me to say?”
There was a brief moment of silence and Brielle stepped away from the door. It was rude to eavesdrop anyway.
She sighed and started walking back to the chair when she heard the woman say,
“Get a girl pregnant and then she can give the baby to us.”
This time, Brielle couldn't hold back the gasp of shock that escaped her lips.
Her heart beat picked up and her palms grew sweaty. Her ears were ringing and her eyes quickly filled with tears.
“That means he only used me,” she whispered as she doubled over. He didn't regard her as a human being, just a free womb he and his wife could use.
She gagged and rushed to grab her bag. She had to leave this place now. She opened the door quietly and slipped out through the front door making sure it didn't make a sound as she left.
She went over the fence in order to avoid the gteman and ran unti she was at the estate gate then she hailed a cab.
As the cab moved further away from his home, Brielle gave into her tears and sobbed like a baby.
She should have known better than to trust some stranger just because she was carrying his child.
Once he found out she was carrying his child, she'd be useless and they'd snatch her child away from her.
Shed never get to watch her child grow and he'd never know her as his mother.
“No, I won't allow him so that to me. My child deserves to know me and him me.”
She jumped out of the cab as soon as he parked on campus grounds and ran to her dorm. Thankfully it was empty so she could be alone.
She dialed a number on her phone and a voice she hadn't heard in years came through the speakers.
“Hey Brie honey,”
“Aunt Rebecca,” she sobbed as she heard her aunt's familiar cheerful voice.
“Are you okay honey?”
She nodded and then laughed. “Yes aunty. I was wondering if I could come over for a few months.”
“You don't have to ask.”
They talked for a few more minutes about different things and once the call disconnected, Brielle ran to her closet and pulled out her travelling bag.
“I'm leaving,” she whispered to the empty room and began throwing clothes into the bag.
