3:00 AM sharp, Gena’s alarm rang. Groggy but determined, she dragged herself to the bathroom. After a refreshing shower, she dressed in blue tattered jeans, a plain white t-shirt, and beige wedge sandals. Grabbing her travel bag, she headed downstairs and stopped by the kitchen for a drink of water.
“Good morning, Gena! You’re up early today,” the maid greeted her cheerfully.
“Good morning. I’ll be out of town for a week,” Gena replied with a smile.
“So sad you won’t be here to see Sir Jared. He’s so handsome! We were fantasizing about his reaction when he sees our beautiful Gena!”
The maid’s dreamy eyes made Gena chuckle. They had no idea she was married to him. “I’m sure it would be quite a scene,” Gena laughed before saying goodbye.
She instructed her driver to pick up Cherry on the way. As the car moved, Gena leaned back, listening to music on Spotify and dozing off. By 8:00 AM, they arrived at their destination, a serene private beach. They headed to the hotel, where Cherry spoke to the receptionist while Gena waited in the lobby.
A tall, handsome man approached Cherry and greeted her warmly. Cherry motioned for Gena to join them.
“Mr. Lebanon, I’d like to introduce my gorgeous lady boss, Ms. Gena. Ma’am, this is Mr. Ronnie Lebanon, our future business partner,” Cherry said with a grin.
“You didn’t disappoint me, Ms. Cherry. Your lady boss is indeed a beauty,” Mr. Lebanon said with a wide smile.
Gena shook his hand. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Lebanon.”
“Please, call me Ronnie. I know you’re tired from the trip, so I’ll see you both at dinner. Have a good day, ladies!”
As Ronnie left, Cherry giggled. “I knew it! No man can resist your beauty.”
“Why do I feel like you used me in negotiating with him?” Gena accused playfully, making Cherry laugh harder.
“You witch!” Gena said, throwing a pillow at Cherry. They both burst into laughter.
After resting, they decided to hit the beach. The clear water and peaceful surroundings were a perfect escape. They built sandcastles and buried each other in the sand, enjoying a rare moment of carefree fun. Gena thought of the Jacobo couple, wishing they had had moments like this together.
As the sun set, they returned to the hotel to prepare for dinner. “Tonight, we’re dressing to kill! It’s rare for us to mix work with fun,” Cherry said, picking out her best dress.
Gena smiled, agreeing silently. She chose her favorite bodycon dress that highlighted her figure, feeling unusually excited about the evening.
“I feel like I’m serving a goddess beside you. No man can resist that beauty!” Cherry exclaimed.
“Thank you for the endless compliments, but I’m not giving you a salary increase,” Gena laughed, making Cherry roll her eyes.
“You’re such a heartless beauty. No wonder you’re still single and loveless!” Cherry teased, and Gena laughed along, hiding the truth about her marriage.
She wondered how Cherry would react if she knew about her marriage to a handsome man. Gena smiled at the thought but pushed it aside, knowing Cherry would pity her for not being acknowledged by her husband.
After a final check of their outfits, they headed to the restaurant, a short drive away. As they entered, Gena noticed people, especially men, staring at her. She hated being the center of attention, feeling scrutinized with every move. Mr. Lebanon spotted them and eagerly approached.
“Wow! I can’t describe how beautiful you are! I’m a lucky guy to sit beside you ladies!” Mr. Lebanon said, motioning them to their seats. He couldn’t stop complimenting Gena.
“We’re lucky to do business with a handsome and generous gentleman like you,” Gena replied with a winning smile.
“I didn’t know Mr. Lebanon could be so generous with compliments,” Cherry joined in.
“I can’t help it. Your boss looks like a fallen angel from heaven.”
“Oh, I won’t take that as a compliment. Satan was a fallen angel too,” Gena joked, making everyone laugh.
The dinner was pleasant, filled with lively conversation and laughter. Mr. Lebanon even took a photo of them, capturing the moment.
After an hour, Gena felt sleepy. “I enjoyed your company tonight, Mr. Lebanon, but I think we should go now. I’m feeling a bit tipsy.”
“It’s a bit early, but sure. I was planning to introduce you to a friend,” Ronnie said.
“Maybe next time. You don’t want to see me wasted,” Gena replied.
“Okay, but may I call you Gena and you call me Ronnie?”
“Sure, Ronnie,” she smiled.
“I’ll walk you to your car,” he offered.
“Thank you,” Gena said as they walked to the car.
As they reached her car, another car parked beside them. The car was so nice that Gena waited to see who would step out. Before the man could fully exit, Gena recognized him. Panic surged through her, and she quickly got into her car without properly saying goodbye to Ronnie. Fortunately, Cherry took the initiative to say goodbye for her. Gena’s relaxed mood vanished. Before leaving the parking area, she saw Ronnie talking to the man like an old friend. How could that be? Ronnie knew her husband. What a small world. Cherry seemed suspicious of Gena’s sudden change in behavior but chose to remain silent.
Back at the hotel, Gena couldn’t sleep, her mind racing with plans to escape the next day. She couldn’t stay there any longer.
