James’s breath caught in his throat. He sat rigid at the table. All of the time and effort Charlie put into making dinner was for nothing. He wasn’t sure he could eat a bite. She had shocked him with the news, it caught him off guard.
“You’re pregnant,” he said. It was not what he expected to hear. There was too much to process. He immediately had flashbacks to when Linda first told him she was pregnant with Matthew. They had been overjoyed, excited, and scared.
This was different. Now he just felt scared, but his reasons had nothing to do with the baby.
She was crying. “You’re upset?”
Was he upset? He didn’t know for sure. “But what about your chemotherapy?”
She shook her head. “I met with Dr. Benji this morning.”
“When? Today?”
“I didn’t tell you I was going to see him.
