LINDA
We looked at each other for a while as Frank kept shedding tears. I kept standing facing him without talking to anyone else.
"I'm sorry to say this my love, it's your time to move on with life and find another guy." I was shocked with these words I was not expecting to hear from him. Of all the people Frank was the last person to say these words to me.
"Don't worry my dear I know everything will be fine. I wished we would enjoy our future together but no one knows tomorrow. As for now, I am going to a far away place and you will not see me again." He started moving from where I was as he started to run.
I tried to follow him insisting him to stay but he started running faster until he was out of my sight. After sometime I saw a river in front as I could see Frank at the other side. I tried to cross but I couldn't because of crocodiles I saw moving up and down. Frank started running again and this time he disappeared.
"Frank come back please, don't leave me alone." I woke up shouting these words.
That's when I saw one of the nurses at the hospital standing by my bed. She kept looking at me while I was trying to piece together what I had just seen in my dream.
The problem with this dream was how far Frank was going. Does this dream have a meaning or I was just thinking about my partner whom I didn't know was still there. I spent some time facing that nurse when I was already in my own world.
"Is everything okay." The nurse asked in a kind voice.
"Everything is fine madam, I just had a bad dream and I was disturbed." I answered. It seemed as if this lady was not believing me and she needed more details about my dream.
"Anyway, I heard you freaking out and calling Frank are you related?" I was shocked to hear the nurse asking me this question. I then decided to tell her about our relationship, maybe I could find out if he was still alive by knowing where he was.
"Frank is my boyfriend and I still remember the last time I saw him getting into an accident, so he's the one I was dreaming about."The nurse just shook her head without saying anything. That's when I said let me take this opportunity and ask if this nurse knew Frank and if she knew where he was.
The nurse immediately left without saying a word, but her face had already changed. This immediately showed me that something was wrong. That's when I was left trying to figure out what was happening. Immediately the door was opened.
At this time I saw my mother and Lucie getting in. They came and hugged me when my face started to flow with tears. I missed my mother and Lucie even though I didn't know how many days I had been in the hospital.
The nurse came back and they talked for a while and then she went back. This is when I was supposed to know the truth, but the problem was that I had never told my mother that I had a boyfriend. Lucie was the only one who knew about this story, I don't know how I would start with my mother.
My prayer was finally heard when my mother came and was called by a nurse and we were left alone with Lucie.
"So tell me Lucie, how did I came here and please tell me how is Frank if he is still alive." There was silence for a while as it seemed my sister was thinking where to start from.
LUCIE
Linda was my young sister and we lived together with our parents in Dawnview park. We were three girls in our family and Linda was the last born. Our elder sister Beatrice was married and she was living in South Africa with his husband.
As for me I was waiting for my application at University of Zimbabwe to be accepted since I had passed my A level with flying colours. Linda was in her fourth year at Kuwadzana 1 high school. My mother was working as a teacher at Cold comfort school whilst my father was working as a bus driver at MG express.
Anyway back to my story I was the only person who knew the affair between Linda and Frank. Every weekend he paid a visit as they could spend the whole day together.
I was at home when my mother came in our room telling me the bad news. Linda had collapsed at the accident scene and at first I didn't know who was involved in the accident. Anyway we got into mother's car as we rushed to the scene.
After arriving at the scene I saw Frank's car burning and there was a haulage truck parked on the roadside and it's front was damaged. I dropped tears as I heard witnesses confirming Frank was dead. We carried Linda who was lying helpless to hospital.
Of course she was going to faint because what she saw was terrible. There is nothing more painful than seeing your loved one being taken away from the world in your sight.
However, we arrived at the hospital and we left her and she was given a bed. We spent the whole week going to the hospital but there was no sign of life. We no longer expected him to wake up as the days were too long.
At home I was constantly being judged when my mother wanted to know what Linda was doing where she was when she came to see the accident. They wanted to know if anything was happening between Linda and the person who had been involved in the accident. I tried to shut her up with the fact that she had gone to see her friend Lindiwe, but she was not taking any of that.
I ended up telling her to ask Linda about it when she wakes up. However, I was happy one day when we arrived at the hospital and saw Linda awake. We spent some time together when mother was called by another nurse.
That's when I was desperate to hear Linda asking me how she got into the hospital and then I was even more desperate when she asked me where Frank was.
