Disbelief was written all over my face as I stared at the figure before me. I ran my dirty fingers over my face, a desperate attempt to clear my eyes, hoping that I was overseeing things, but no. I had seen clearly. Before me stood a very familiar figure. A person that I grew up with, a person who could even be considered as my best friend.
Beta Logan. No! I could never get used to calling him Beta Logan because since we were toddlers, we used to call him Loh. Even when I became the Luna, I still addressed him with his nickname, Loh.
A painful pang struck my heart as I stared at his familiar brown eyes, searching for the particular warmth and kindness that they usually carried, but no, there was none. The same brown eyes were filled with hostility as they stared back at me.
" Loh!" I called carefully, making sure to study his emotions and reactions. His Alpha had betrayed me. I didn't want to fall out with him.
" Are you here to save me?" The tinge of expectation in my voice could not be hidden as I asked, already imagining a successful exit from the scary, dark, and gloomy forest, led and protected by my friend. 'We might make it out here safely, baby. ' I inaudibly informed my unborn baby, fighting the urge to rub my flat belly.
"Don't you dare call me that! It's Beta Logan for you! You hear me? " Beta Logan snapped on my face, and I visibly shuddered, not expecting it.
Seeing his hatred-filled eyes and cold face, my hopes were almost shattered, but I kept quiet, unsure of how to respond.
" Save you? When will you ever stop deluding? How can I save you from myself?" His words were laced with mockery as he gazed at me.
" What do you mean, Loh..Beta Logan? I am not your enemy, am I?" I questioned, preparing myself for anything. My husband and my mate had betrayed me, and I would be stupid to trust again.
" I am not your friend. I have never been your friend. Your perfect a** has always been my enemy. You hear me? " Logan shouted hysterically, forcing me to take a step back. I wore a confused look as I stared at him. I could not understand what he was talking about.
" I am your nightmare. I am about to send your pathetic a** flying to your maker, understood?" Logan wore a crazy look on his face as he approached and fear gripped every cell in my body. I had sparred with him before, and I knew how strong he was. With my current weak condition, I was not his match, not to mention the fact that he still had his wolf.
My eyes turned red from anger as I looked at the once familiar and loving soul, and I could not believe it. Where had I gone wrong? Why did everyone hate me so much? From my biological father to my mate and then my childhood friend? What was so hateful about me? I self questioned, clenching my jaws furiously.
I felt like my heart was being squeezed dry as I thought of Asher. How had the person who claimed to love me, who had showered me with love and care for three years, become so cruel? To even send his beta to kill me? Did he ever love me?
" No! He never loved you. You were just blind not to see the truth. Who would fall for you? Who would want you as their Luna? You can't even protect yourself!" Logan mocked, answering all my unasked questions as if he could read my mind. Since he used to be close to me, he could already guess my thoughts, and he was using my insecurities against me.
" Shut up!" I shouted frantically, trying to silence him. My mind was racing with millions of questions and thoughts, and I felt like I was losing my mind.
" See? You can't even control your mind. How can you call your miserable self strong?" Logan shouted, and I almost felt dizzy, just what he wanted.
'Don't listen to him, Reya! He is provoking you on purpose.'My wolf, Anya, linked worriedly, and I nodded. Although I didn't know where his hatred was coming from, I was not going to let him manipulate me. I was going to fight him, enemy or friend.
Taking deep breaths, I shot him a dirty look, and his eyes turned red. I knew him too well, too. He never liked it whenever he was looked down on, and that was exactly what I was trying to do.
" Why?" I asked the burning question.
" You ask why? Because I hate you! I hate you, Reya. I hate you very much. Because you are cruel. Because you are a heartless b***ch, Reya. You knew that I loved you. You knew that I had been carrying a torch for you for the biggest part of my life. Yet, you went ahead and broke my heart. " I wore a confused look as I listened.
" I loved you. I wanted you. You should have been mine. But you? You went ahead and gave your heart to Asher! Playing wife and Luna. Did you know how much it broke my heart? Seeing you acting as a loving and dutiful Luna to Asher? Did you know how painful it was? watching the person that I loved make out with another wolf? Did you ever think of me, Reya?" Logan's voice was terrifyingly calm as he asked, and I swear, I was looking for an exit. His eyes were flashing red and brown, indicating that his wolf was about to go feral.
" Did you think Asher loved you? That he would ever be faithful to you? Aside from me, no one has ever loved you genuinely. No one will ever love you! " Logas shouted as he lunged at me, but I sidestepped him, surviving his ruthless attack by inches, and my heart went to my mouth, counting myself lucky.
" You are crazy, Logan! Love can never be forced. I never saw you as anything more than a brother. To me, you were just a friend, and I loved you as such. Besides, you never confessed your true feelings to me. How did you expect me to know? I don't read minds. Please, calm down. " I tried to reason with him although I was losing my calm.
" You are telling me to calm down? You are funny. You betrayed me, Reya. You even went ahead and became pregnant with his pup. You are carrying another man's baby! A ba** tad!" Logan shouted
" F**k you, Logan. You are crazy! Don't ever call my baby a b**tad! Now stop this madness." I shouted, and Logan smiled.
His smile was so sweet, so kind, and so familiar that I almost felt like I was looking at a completely different person.
" You are right, Reya. I am going to put an end to this." He sounded composed as he uttered my name, and I almost wanted to hug him. I felt like the old Logan was back.
"Finally!" I exhaled audibly.
" Get out of here, all of you. " Logas shouted to the other werewolves who were pretending to be rogues, and they were gone within seconds.
" You are right, Reya. It's about time. " Logan spoke calmly as he approached, and my wolf told me to take a step back.
" You are now tainted. You don't deserve me. "
" I will end this quickly."
Before I could come back to my senses, I saw a dagger aimed at my belly, and although it missed my belly, it went deep through my chest. Fighting back, my dagger landed squarely on his forehead, but I knew that that was not enough to put him down.
Just as I was about to turn, my foot slipped, and a look of dismay crossed my face as my body went light while the pull of gravity pulled me down the cliff.
In my moment of desperation, I saw Logan's triumphant smile......
A sad lone tear slid through my cheeks as an image of Asher and Willow flashed through my vision...
'Baby!' My desperate echos could be heard.....
