51 Waterstone stood leaning on the bow railing, watching the water ripple past the hull of their boat, his back to everyone. He had been there for nearly two hours, his mind closed to the others. As time passed and he remained isolated, debate raged among the other woodfolk about who should approach him. Finally Tarkyn had said quietly, “I will go.” As he walked with unhurried steps along the deck, he saw Waterstone’s shoulders hunch up and gave a wry smile to himself.
