Alyssa’s Point Of View
As I sit on the stairs of the orphanage, I just wish that I could be in the loving arms of my parents and older sisters but that is long gone cause they are dead and are never coming back. I am now living in the Sunshine orphanage. I have been living in this place for a year now. I was placed here by the cops when I was twelve after my parents and sisters died due to a drunk driver.
I have accepted the fact that I am probably never gonna get adopted. Or at least that is what I am told by everyone that works here and the other kids that live here.
Austin’s Point Of View
I am pulling up to the orphanage with two of my bandmates Joe and Cody. I am here to adopt a kid after my most recent girlfriend has left me cause she was a gold digger and I wouldn’t let her have my money. And I have always wanted a kid but I need one that can travel with me on the road during tours. As we walk in one of the staff members looks up and put on a fake smile.
“Hi what can I do for you today,” she asks her voice so sugary sweet that it makes me wanna cringe.
“I am looking to adopt a kid who is older and able to travel on the road for a long period of time,” I say.
“Well we only have one kid that is older but I don’t think you want her she is the problem child here,” she says her voice has an edge of distain creeping in.
“I will like to see her,” I say.
“She’s over there on the stairs her name is Alyssa she has been here for a year,” she says with disgust in her voice.
I look over at the stairs and walk over to the girl with brown hair and blue eyes, and Joe and Cody follow.
Alyssa’s Point Of View
I hear soft footsteps coming closer to me and they dont seem threating like most of the footsteps here are towards me. I look up my blue eyes cold but soft all at once. I see the front man for Hinder Austin Winkler along with the guitarist Joe and the drummer Cody approching me.
Austin bends down to my level.
“Hey there I am Austin your Alyssa right,” he says gently.
“Yea I am,” I say softly.
“How old are you sweetheart?” He ask.
“I’m thirteen,” I say.
“Oh nice. Well I am looking for an older kid that can handle traveling with me and my band on tours,” he says.
“I can understand that but you should know that I do have some baggage mentally and emotionally,” I say.
“Oh what is that honey?” He asks gently.
“Well a year ago my older sisters and parents were hit by a drunk driver after one of my sister’s sports games,” I say quietly.
“Oh honey that is awful and honestly this don’t change my consideration in adopting you,” he says.
His kindness and gentle demeanor makes my eyes soften and brighten up.
“If you want me to take you out of here just let me know and I’ll sign the papers right here and now,” he says.
“Sure,” I say softly.
He nods and gets up heading to the desk to get the papers from the staff member who just glares at me with distain.
“Your seriously gonna take that girl,” she says with clear distain.
“Yes I am she fits my needs and wants plus she also deserves a seconf chance,” he says.
“Your making a mistake with her,” she says handing him the paper work.
“I doubt that,” he says filling the papers out and signing them before handing the back and walking back over to me.
“Go pack what little stuff you have your coming with me,” he says.
I nod and run up the stairs to get the little bit of stuff that I have which includes my microphone and my guitar along with a note book full of songs that I have wrote. I come back down the stairs.
“You ready?” He asks.
“Yea I am ready,” I say slinging my guitar case over my shoulder and holding my mic case that has my mic and the stand for it.
“You sing and play?” He asks as we leave the orphanage and walk to his car.
“Yea I do,” I say.
He smiles as we get in the car me in the passenger seat and him in the drivers seat.
“So when we get back to the house you will meet the band there is three others it is Joe my guitarist, Cody my drummer, and Cole my bassist,” he says.
“Okay that is fine by me I'm just happy to be out of that place,” I say.
“I bet you are that place looked and felt like a hell hole,” he says.
I let out a small laugh at that comment.
“Yea that is the truth,” I say.
The rest of the drive is silent but the silent isn’t uncomfortable. I feel so relieved and shocked that I am finally out of that place after only a year of being there. When I honestly thought that I was never gonna get adopted. So it feels so surreal.
I feel like I can let my guard down for once without being hurt again. I smile for the first time in a year. Cause I haven’t smiled cause of my family’s deaths.
I take a deep breath and look out the window at the blurring scenery. All the tension leaves my shoulders as I do this. Austin watches me with a protective look on his face. And it makes me feel safe in this very moment. My smile only gets bigger and more real as I keep looking out the window which is good.
