Chapter Two Lila “There’s no 'we' anymore. We are done, both of us. Now, leave. I don't want to ever see you. Do not f*****g cross paths with me, or best believe I would ruin you.” I reeled backward as if those words had hit me like a train. “Caleb. You can't do this. You can't just let go of everything that makes us because of something I am not!” A dam broke in my eyes as I yelled. “You are a seer, are you not?” Sniffing, I nodded. “Then that is enough to justify what I'm about to do.” He turned his head in the direction of the door. “ENFORCERS.” My eyes widened, and I immediately sprang to my feet, the blanket still wrapped around my body. My heart pounded at what he was about to do. “Caleb, please. Don't do this. Let us talk this out,” I said as I moved closer to him, panic filling my voice. “Do not f*****g come any closer,” he growled. I halted in my tracks as he bared his teeth, his fangs lengthening. My heart shattered at the sight. The door barged open, and in came two of the Pack's enforcers, David and Stiles. “Yes, alpha,” they both chorused as they registered the tension in the room; their eyes held curiosity. “Get her out of my room and out of my sight,” Caleb sneered, dismissing me as he retreated into the other room that was his study. “No. Please. Caleb, don't do this,” I begged frantically as the two werewolves wrapped their hands around both my arms and pulled me out of the room. My strength was no match for theirs, even as I tried to wrestle out of their tight grips, kicking and screaming. “Please, Caleb.” **** Dinner sucked. No, the food did not taste bad. Dinner didn't even suck because my head was pounding as a result of the amount of tears I had shed hours before. I took my gaze to the eyesore at the head of the long rectangular table I was sitting at. Caleb sat on his makeshift throne, and on his lap was Nicole, the former beta's daughter. They were ignoring everyone else in the room, including the delicious delicacies before them, and sucking each other's faces off. That right there was the reason why dinner sucked. Since I had stepped into the diner, my eyes had been bloodshot, and my stomach was growling with a hunger I couldn't ignore any longer since I had skipped both breakfast and lunch. They had been like that. Now the roasted chicken that was in my tummy threatened to come out as my stomach churned at the sight. For some reason, I couldn't stop myself from looking at them. “You can't let them get to you, honey.” My mother interrupted as she scooped spoons of soup and turned them into my now-empty bowl. She was on the wait list for the night. I let out a sigh of frustration as I spoke, “I can't, Ma.” The soup did nothing to ease my nerves as I brought it to my lips. Its taste pleased my taste buds, and I almost moaned. “I can't do that, especially when it's the topic of discussion.” Around us, the other shifters threw glances at us—some filled with hate, some filled with genuine curiosity. My mother moved on to serve others. I let out another sigh. The news of my powers and my embarrassing breakup with the alpha had spread like wildfire, and I hated it. Everyone had avoided me like I was the coronavirus itself like I was the plague. Why wouldn't they? They had witnessed the cruel things that were done to their pack by a seer and were as scarred as their alpha. There was only one person who had the guts to approach me: a young teenager who asked me if I knew or had any idea whether her crush was going to ask her out for prom. Of course, she was disappointed when I told her I had no idea. The sound of Nicole giggling filled the room and the rage I felt threatened to burst. My gaze drifted to where they were, and this time, Caleb was whispering something in her ear. My hands tightened around the spoon I held. I couldn't do this anymore. Standing abruptly and receiving more curious looks from the others, I gathered my empty dishes along with the half bowl of soup. All eyes were on me as I marched to the kitchen. The attention made my skin crawl and my spine prickle as I walked. Before I knew it, someone put their foot in my way, and I tripped, sending the dishes I held flying into the air. The contents of the soup bowl landed on my dress just as I hit the hard floor. My face was on the goddamn floor. A spike of pain shot through my body from the impact, but I didn't dare let out any sound. Even though I badly wanted to. Barks of laughter immediately resonated in the air, the sound piercing my heart and making my wolf prance around inside me. She didn't like that. Not one bit. “Oops. My bad,” a red-haired male snickered as he looked down at me. “I thought you were going to see that and, I don't know, avoid it or something. Since you're a seeker and all.” The other comrades around him burst into laughter as I gave him a glare that I was sure would kill. He was lucky werewolves couldn't shoot lasers from their eyes; he would have been roasted meat by now. As I stood, one of the males spat on me with disgust in his eyes. The icky liquid on the blue dress I wore sent rage down my spine, and I balled my fists. That was my favorite dress. The booming laughter that came afterward sent ice down my spine. This was the last strike. My jaw tightened. I was getting the hell out of here.
