Chapter 4
Annie was still smiling even after the bell rang for lunch. As she picked up her bag and walked out of the class, she recounted her conversation with him.
After class, he ran up to her with his backpack in hand.
“Annie, right? My name's Jessie." He stretched out his hand and she froze, staring into his eyes and admiring his handsome face.
He was so dreamy and Annie tried to understand how someone could be so handsome.
“Hi" she finally snapped out of her daze and took his hand “You okay very well."
He blushed and Annie felt like she was high on love.
“That… that was nothing. What do you play?"
For some reason, Annie found that her hands were sweating.
“I play the violin really well."
He began walking her away from class and they talked about how all her other classes went. They talk for a while before going their separate ways. Unfortunately, they didn't have the same class but he walked her to her class and Annie watched him walk away from her, with a huge smile on her face.
As she walked to the cafeteria, she searched for Kira but she didn't find her so she sat alone at the table. As she began to eat, a couple of girls walked up to her.
She looked up at them and her heart dropped. They looked like the bitchy clique in every school and having a confrontation was the last thing she wanted. The set of people that she had been trying to avoid had somehow found their way to her. It was like safe was a bully magnet and no matter how much she tried to stay away from them and avoid trouble, it never really worked.
“Listen" she started from her seat “I really don't want any trouble. "
“Trouble? Anyways, my name is Amy. This is Stella and Sasha. I'm head of the Social team and I'd like to welcome you to the School of Werewolves. Everyone is a friend and I'm sure you'd enjoy your stay. If you have any questions, you can always come to me. I'm like your fairy godmother, only younger, blonder and prettier. "
They all laughed and Annie felt relieved that the girls were being nice. Maybe her dad wasn't wrong after all.
“Thank you, for the welcome. So, is there anything I can help you with?" She asked them.
“Well” Amy began “For every new human that comes to this school, we throw something called a Love Party for them. It's just a get together for them, to show them that they are important and recognized in this school and they won't be treated any less."
“I take it, you guys don't get a lot of human students."
Amy and her friends nodded their heads and they all laughed. This nice welcome was new to Annie because she always hated her first day at every other school that she had attended.
In fact, she had hated her first month because not only did people treat her differently, she barely made friends and she ended up being an outcast in school because of the rumors that had gone ahead of her to spoil her reputation.
School had never been on her list of favorite things to do. She hated it with everything in her because of the trouble that came with it.
“That is nice. Thank you. So, when is the party?"
“It's this Saturday but if you're busy, we can postpone it-"
“No!" She almost flew out of her seat.
Amy, Stella and Sasha looked at her like she had gone crazy and she cleared her throat and settled back down in her chair.
“I mean, I'm not busy at all so there's no need to move it. In fact, I'd love to have it this weekend."
Amy told her that they would have to meet after school to discuss the details. A party that was all about her, that was new. Never had she received that kind of honor or attention before. Her face was flushed and she decided to get a drink from the vending machine.
Seemed like the vending machine wasn't a fan of hers because it wasn't accepting the dollar she shoved into it. She almost screamed out of frustration and when her dollar was spat back at her and she was about to rain every profanity under the sun at the machine, she heard the voice that could make her heart race and stop at the same time.
“If it were me you were glaring at like that, I'd really not want to be me. " He said as she turned around to see him pointing at the machine.
He walked up to her and stood close to her so that she could smell his perfume and she almost wanted to steal his shirt off his back and take it home.
“Is everything okay? I've been watching you go at it with the vending machine."
Annie froze and wondered if she'd heard right. Did he just say he'd been watching her? She slowly turned back around while hoping that he hadn't seen when the machine spat back her money.
“Yeah, I'm okay. It's just that the vending machine seems to have something against me and it won't just collect my money."
Jessie went past her and put coins in it. Surprisingly, the drink fell at the same time as Annie's mouth and she frowned.
“The machine is sexist." She said and it made Jessie laugh.
“Nah, you just have to be able to time it and be lucky." Annie rolled her eyes and Jessie handed her the drink and as she was about to open her mouth to refuse, he shook his head and so she took it.
“I noticed that you were sitting alone." He pointed out.
Annie felt embarrassed and her ears burned.
“Yeah, I've not really got to making friends…"
Jessie noticed she felt embarrassed.
“That's okay. I didn't have any friends for months and it was crazy. How would you like to sit with me? My friends aren't very noisy and they are really nice as well. "
Annie's heart kept for joy as they made their way to her table to pick up her food tray and then to his table where his friends were sat.
As they walked together, Annie could feel everyone's eyes on them. She looked at Jessie's as he walked in front of her. He had no idea how much attention he conjured and he was just on his own planet and nothing around him really mattered.
“Hey guys" All eyes turned to them “This is my friend Annie and she's new here, if it wasn't already obvious." Everyone laughed. Jessie turned to look at her and then stepped away and Annie knew it was time for her to take the stage.
Taking a deep breath, she cleared her throat and said
“My name is Annie Leonne and that's about it."
“Hey Annie, I'm John." They all took their turns standing up and hugging Annie. John, Clarissa, Michael, Elias and Jason were the ones sitting at the table.
Jason and Clarissa were dating and Elias and Michael were brothers.
“So Annie, how's our school treating you so far?" Jason asked as soon as she sat down.
“It's been good so far. I've found help and everyone has been nice to me." Annie felt truly grateful for all the help she had received from the people she met today.
At least, they had proven to her that people weren't monsters and that there were still nice people out there in the world.
The bell rings and they all stand up with their trays to head back to class. Jessie walks her to class and stops in front of the door.
“So, I guess I'll see you around." He says with that charming smile that could melt her heart.
She blushed and looked to the ground. “Of course, bye."
She watched him walk down the hall and turn the corner before dragging herself back to class. The afternoon classes pretty much passed in a breeze and Annie barely listened to any of the teachers because she really wasn't interested and she just wanted to go home.
The sound of the bell ringing brought so much relief to her and it was like a burden being lifted up from her shoulders. She didn't waste another second in school and she immediately walked out of the premises and waited for the bus to come.
She had already got to the bus stop when she realized she forgot something and she lazily dragged herself back to school.
A couple of shouts and a whistle drew her attention to the school field and there was her angel in all his glory. Messy hair, sweat streaming down his face and his muscles flexing every time he moved something.
She knew that her mouth was open and that she was gaping and that if anyone saw her, they would tag her as creepy but she didn't care.
It was like he had the ability to get her attention without even trying. The bus came and she let out a sigh. She really needed to get herself together.
She betrayed that thought by giving him one last glance before getting on the school bus. Ass he made her way home, the smile that had been in her face didn't disappear as she got lost in thought and almost missed her bus stop because she was daydreaming.
When she got home, her dad was already home and she frowned as she dropped her school bag as she walked into the kitchen to meet him.
She put her hand on her waist, realized it didn't look mean enough and then folded it across her chest. Her dad did a double take and smiled at her.
“Hey pumpkin. How was school?"
“How in the world did you get home before me? Also, why didn't you wait to drive me home?"
He chuckled. “I'm the principal. I can do whatever the hell I want. Besides, I didn't want you to go on about how you're growing up and you can get yourself home."
Annie opened her mouth and thought about it. It definitely did sound like something she would say so she closed it back.
“What are you making? I'm starving." She stretched her hand to get the bread on the counter but he smacked it away.
“Just like your mother. So impatient with food."
They both laughed and settled into the silence.
“How was your first day at school, love? Was there any trouble?"
A smile broke out on her face as she thought about the best day she had this year. It was also the most trouble free day.
“It was really good, dad. Everyone was really nice and I actually met people that helped me and I guess I could say I met a couple of friends."
“That's wonderful" he handed her a sandwich “The School for Werewolves is the place to be."
She rolled her eyes and bit into her lunch.
“Also, my Love Party is this weekend. Looking forward to it. "
She suddenly remembered that Amy had asked to see her after school to discuss the details. Hopefully, she will remember tomorrow and make plans for it.
Seeing Jessie was the main reason she really looked forward to going to school tomorrow. It was like it was alive at first sight but she wouldn't really know what love was, would she?
Anyways, whatever it was that she felt for him would eventually reveal itself.
Her father watched her eat and all he could think about was the smile she was trying to hide. He didn't remember the last time she wore a smile when talking about school.
This was good news, in the very least and he couldn't help but feel happy about this win. He just hoped that things would continue this way.
