2. Good to be back

1445 Words
Thea's POV Today marks a week since I came back to New York. Cloud Nine is one of the best multispeciality hospital in the city. The people here are also very welcoming and were generous enough to make small talk when I first came here. I work under Dr. Mayors who is the head of general surgery. He is one of the coolest mentor I have ever worked under. He lets me work independently on the cases that he gives me but of course checks every once in a while.  Today was supposed to be a slow day but Dr. Mayors pages me to the VIP wing. When I reach, the patient is already being rolled inside on the gurney while three buff men in black suits follow while looking between me and Dr. Mayors. He calls me and tells me to check the patient and I run towards the gurney.  As I approach I see the face of the person and I freeze just for a second seeing Kade Ryder's face. I get over my initial shock and check for his injuries.  "Talk to me Dr. Williams", Dr. Mayors says while checking his vitals.  "He has a dislocated shoulder, a broken wrist and a few fractured ribs", I tell him my diagnosis and he nods his head while writing in the chart.  "Let's move him to the private room doctor", a thin man with glasses who I presume is his PA says and we all agree while wheeling the gurney quickly. He needs to be in the surgery as soon as possible but first I need him to wake up.  "Doctor, can you please tell me where room number 433 is?", a voice calls after me and I turn to see Violet, my best friend and Kade's sister approach me. As soon as she sees me, she freezes in her spot but a moment later she almost trip while running towards me and hugs me tightly. "I missed you so f*****g much Thea", she says and a few tears flow from both of our eyes. I hug her back and we separate after a few seconds.  "Damn girl, you look sexy as hell", she says and whistles while successfully catching the attention of the other people in the hall.  "Okay that's enough. You are here to see your brother, so let us go there", I say and pull her towards the room.  "You are his doctor?" "Yep I am". "Is he okay? I heard it was a very nasty fall", she winces while trying to picture it.  "It is not that bad per say but we are looking at a surgery and a recovery of about three weeks", I tell her and her eyes become wide.  "He is not going to be happy about this at all", she mutters and I just nod.  As we are about to enter the nurse comes out and tells me that he is awake and Dr. Adams, who is a fellow like me in Ortho is coming. Just as I was about to page him again, I see him walking towards me with a smile.  Dr. Williams, I hope you don't mind if I come a little later as I have an emergency consult in the ER. I will come as soon as possible", he asks and I nod and he rushes past me.  "Let's go inside Violet", with that I enter first.  "How are you feeling Kade?", I ask him with a small smile. I know he won't be able to speak as of now due to the heavy dose of painkillers.   "You have broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder which was popped back in while you were out and a fractured wrist of your right hand. You are scheduled to go to surgery in half an hour for your ribs and wrist. From what I can tell you should be out of here in about two weeks if everything goes as planned", I give him all the details and all he does is stare at me. I give him a smile again and hug Violet before leaving the room. After finishing with my consult as I was about to go the OR 2, Dr. Levi, the intern who I assigned to Kade's case comes to me. "Dr. Williams, the family of the patient has requested to meet you before the surgery if you are free that is?", he asks nervously and I just nod my head following him.  "Thea, let's go. I will come with", he says and follows me to Kade's room.  "Hello I am Dr. Thea Williams and this is Dr. Luke Adams and we will be performing the surgery. If you have any questions please don't hesitate", saying so I turn towards Caroline Ryder who jumps out of her seat after confirming that it really is me. She was like a second mom for me when I lived here, 10 years ago. Richard too hugs me and we exchange few words before we get going.  Luke and I enter the OR and start to scrub. He looks at and I know he is dying to ask questions.  "Spit it out", I tell him and he laughs. Luke has become a good friend ever since I started my job here. We have had a few drinks and lunch together. He is a witty person with a nice personality and comforting aura.  "How do you even know Kade Williams? He is like a superstar, no offense", he asks and I laugh.  "I am best friends with his twin sister and we all went to school together, that is until I moved to California", I tell him half the truth. I didn't tell him that I despise Kade Williams. All the awful things he has done in the past has lead me to hate him. "Damn. That is something. I am a very big fan of his but I don't want to boast his already too big of an ego by telling him that", he says and I laugh again. I tend to do that alot when he is around.  I enter the OR and face Kade with the kindest smile I could muster.  "You are going to be just fine. Just sit back and relax and let us do our jobs, okay?", I say and he nods and I tell the anesthesiologist to put him to sleep.  The surgery was a success and I inform it to his family and they seem really happy. They let me know how greatful they were and I just brush that off. I cannot handle compliments too well.  I check up on my other post ops and then make my way to Kade's room again as Dr. Mayors told me to keep a close eye on him as he is a VIP patient.  As I was about to enter the room, I hear a male voice from inside the room and I knock lightly before entering.  "How are you? Feeling better?", I ask Kade.  "Yes I feel much better", he answers in a drowsy voice and it is understandable.  "I will just do a quick workup and be out of your hair", I tell them and smile at the other guy who introduces himself as Cameron, Kade's best friend. "Are you the same girl who Violet was talking about non stop?", he asks and I laugh out loud. Violet can never change. She is the most talkative person I have ever seen.   "Yeah that would be me. We are long lost best friends", he laughs while Kade looks exhausted to even smile.  " Your stitches look good and so does your wrist. Don't move around too much and we need anything just press the button", I tell them both and they nod.  I wish them a good night and finally leave the hospital after changing into my dress. My apartment is just five minutes away from the hospital. It is a beautiful two bedroom apartment with all the furniture. It is a very cosy place and I am so thankful it is so close to the hospital. It is easier for me to reach during emergencies.  I pour myself a glass of my favourite red wine and turn on the television and all they show is Kade's nasty fall on the set and how bad he was hurt. His PA gave a statement about his recovery and his fans all over the world wish him a fast and a healthy recovery. I just groan and change the channel to watch a movie. After I finish off my wine, I eat the salad that I prepared before I left for the hospital in the morning which technically is my breakfast but whatever.  I am so exhausted that I head to bed and while I am on the verge of sleeping I see the face of the person who I despise from my core, Kade Ryder.
