Kade's Conquest (COMPLETED)

3. Catching up

Kade's POV 

Today I am feeling much better than I did on the day of my surgery which was two days back. I haven't seen much of Thea as she has been very busy because of some crash that took place. Luke, who came to check up on me told me about it all and I swear if not for him being the one who patched me up, I swear I would have killed him with my bare hands. I have no idea how someone can talk so much and that too in a very obnoxious way. He also told me that he was a big fan of mine and it was a dream come true to meet me. I gagged in mouth a number of times after he said that. 

As Violet was updating me about everything outside of this hospital, a knock is heard at the door and Thea peeks in. 

"I am so sorry to disturb you guys but I just came to check up on you. I couldn't come for the past two days but I hope you are feeling well Kade?", she asks. 

"Yeah, I feel much better, all thanks to you guys", I say and she smiles kindly at me. 

"Thea, I missed you so much. We have a lot to catch up on. Why don't you have lunch here today, with us?", she asks and I see the sly smile she sends me. I just groan and Thea's head snaps towards me. 

"I don't think he wants me here", she says and I immediately look at her. 

"No that's not it. I was groaning because I just know Violet here is going to but the burgers with extra cheese and eat while looking at me, that's all. Please do join us for lunch", I say while Violet smirks and laughs loudly. 

"You are damn right about that brother", she says and laughs again. 

"Okay I will see what I can do about that. I wanted to ask you, if you were okay with me bringing interns here? You know, you being a star and all", she asks and I laugh while rolling my eyes. 

"Of course, you can and I am superstar not just a star love", I say and now she rolls her eyes hard. 

"You won't ever change, will you?", she asked with a mocking tone and I just laugh, saying nothing. 

"If he ever does, I promise you Thea, it will be for the worse", Violet adds and the two laughs at me expense. 

"f**k off", I show her the finger and she mimics it. 

"Okay, just stay still, the interns are coming", Thea says and she takes the file and clipboard from the table. 

Few young interns come in and all look at me with gooey and awestruck eyes. Thea clears her throat rather loudly and they stand still. 

"Who wants present?", Thea asks with a blank face and everyone raises their hand.

"Dr. Ophelia", she says in a stern voice while the girl smiles at me and then starts talking about my case and the surgeries that I had. 

"What is the course of medication you would like to continue with Dr. Tyler?", Thea asks after she is done writing something on the chart. 

"It depends on the medications that were given before and the pain level of the patient".

"Is that all Dr. Tyler. Would you like to add something more?"

"Not that I can think of", he replies with an edge to his voice and I immediately dislike him. I am sure his missing some point, judging from Thea's face.

"Would anyone like to add something?", she asks and a boy raises his hand and she signals for him to speak. 

"We need to consider if he is allergic to any medications before we prescribe any", he says and a smile appears on Thea's face. 

"Very good Dr. Landon", she appreciates him and his face becomes so red that it looks like it will explode any minute on. Someone has a crush on their beautiful attending.

"Dr. Tyler you need to learn not to be so uptight while talking to your seniors as well as the patients. You need to learn bedside manners so you are on scut for the whole week and like the last time don't try to ask my fellow surgeons for a spot because I will be informing this to them as well. We need to finish the rounds so let's go", she says in a voice that doesn't leave any room for objection. 

As they all leave the room, Thea stays back. 

"I will be here for lunch. See you guys in two hours", she says and hugs Violet before leaving. 

"I hate you, you know that right?", I say and she has the audacity to laugh. 

"Oh, come on, stop being such a baby Kade. Since when are afraid of taking to a woman?"

"If that woman is Thea Williams who I have hurt more times than I can count, then yes I am afraid", I say and she just holds my left hand and the right one is still in a huge cast.

"You will be fine. I am sure she has forgiven you".

"I am not so sure about that", I say with a groan.

"You have a chance to resolve everything and start a new friendship with her. Don't screw it up Kade, I swear I will break your jaw, if you do", she says and I just nod my head absentmindedly. 

The two hours pass in a blur and Thea comes in with a bag in her hand. 

"I am sorry I am late. I had a surgery", she says while shrugging as if this quite normal for her. I cannot help but notice the difference between the old Thea and the one who is standing in front of me. The one standing in front of me is more confident, strong and independent than the Thea I knew ten years ago. The old Thea had big glasses which are now replaced by lens and her hair are longer than ever before which are elegantly cascading down to her waist. 

"You know Kade, staring is considered to be rude', I snap my attention back to her face while she smirks at me. 

"Well, I wasn't staring. I was just taking you in", I say with a smug smile while she groans. 

"You will never give up your stupid flirting, would you?', she says and Vi and I both laugh loudly.

"Nope. If that's how I am getting women, so why would I?"

"So, you mean to say, no woman is attracted to you for your looks anymore?", she asks with a smirk and I swear my heart skipped a beat. The old Thea would never have said something like this and this, her teasing me, makes me want to have my way with her. 

"That one hell of a comeback Thea", Vi says while laughing really loudly which should be prohibited considering we are in a hospital. 

"I know right", she and winks at her and smiles. 

They both take their food out and sit beside me. The aroma of the delicious food hits my nose and I groan. 

"You both are extremely mean", I wine like a ten-year-old, earning a laugh from them.

"So, Thea, how have you been? The last time we talked was like four years ago, I guess?", Violet asks and Thea smile and nods.

"I have been fine I guess. I was busy with college and studies and after that I completed my residency at the hospital in California. Then, I applied for a job here as this hospital has been my dream since forever and they accepted me with open arms. It is been a privilege to work under such amazing doctors. I have learnt so much in mere three weeks of being here", she says and you an clearly see the happiness in her eyes while she talks about her work and this hospital. 

They both talk about Vi's job as well and our parents. Vi asks her about Aunt Mia and uncle Joey as well who are living in California. They were so used to it that they didn't want to come back here. The hotels are also running very smoothly. 

"You have become quite a big star, Kade", they finally shift their attention towards me and I smirk. 

"Well yeah. What else did you expect?", I say and she just laughs, shaking her head. 

"You are still the same egoistic and arrogant bastard, aren't you?", she says and I laugh loudly. 

"That's one way to compliment me but I would prefer outrageously handsome and sexy", I reply to which she just laughs. 

"And also, the stuck-up asshole", she says while Violet agrees with her. 

"Guys, I will be back in few minutes. I need something more from the cafeteria. You are here right?", Violet asks Thea and she nods. Violet leaves but winks at me before closing door letting me know that she did this on purpose.

"What else have you been up to, except being an asshole?", Thea asks and I laugh again. 

"Honestly, I don't really get time from the shoots and all. Travelling to different places for movies takes up all my energy which leaves me with no motivation at all to do anything else", I tell her honestly and she nods her head in understanding.

"I can totally relate to that. When you are a surgeon, you usually don't have a life outside hospital", she sighs while running her hand through her head. It is only noon and she already looks exhausted. 

"When was the last time you slept properly? Without waking up in the middle of the night to come here at the hospital?", I ask her. She looks extremely pale and seems like she has no energy left at all. 

"Honestly, I don't remember. It's been days since I slept and I miss sleep", she wines like a child and smile at her.

"You shouldn't be so hard on yourself Thea. If you are going to take care of others, you need to take care of yourself first", I tell her with concern making its way in my voice. 

"Since when do you care what I do and don't?", she asks, mocking me. I sigh and run my left hand over my face. 

"I am one of your patients and I don't want to die", I tell her with a smirk and she laughs loudly. 

"So, you think I am incapable of taking care of my patients?", she asks me with a quirked eyebrow. 

"You don't hate all your patients, do you?", I ask her with a nervousness in my voice and she gulps softly. 

"No, I don't", she answers and even if I expected this, it hurt a little. 

"So, you hate me", I say and await her answer. After what felt like an eternity which must have been only a few moments, she answers.

"Yes, I do. I still hate you Kade for all those horrible things you did to me 10 years ago. I hate you for bullying me at school along with your stupid asshole friends, for ruining my prom for me, making my date disappear at the last minute making me look like an i***t in front of the entire school and I also hate you for being the jerk who took my first kiss when you knew what all it meant for me. You were drunk out of your mind that day and still when you were dared to kiss your sister's best friend at that stupid party, you did. Violet and I both tried to stop you but you wouldn't listen and you kissed me even if it was just a peck", she says all of this in one breath, all the while shooting daggers at me and tears were flowing down her cheeks which she angrily rubbed off. 

"So yes, Kade Ryder, I hate you more than you think", saying so she was about to leave when I catch her right hand in my left one.

"I am so sorry for all the stupid and idiotic things I did to you. I regret them and I not just saying because I want you to forgive, no, I am saying this because I really am. I feel awful for treating you the way I did. I will make it up to you Thea, I promise. Please just give me one last chance. You won’t regret it. I want us to be friends, I want to get to know you, please", I say, desperation leaking from my voice. 

She looks at me one more time before getting out of my grip and standing in front of me with red and puffy cheeks. 

"I don't believe you one-bit Kade. I have been behaving nicely with you just because you are my patient, that's all", she says, her eyes twitching in anger. 

"I know I messed up big time, but Thea just one more chance. Just let me prove it to you that I can also be a good friend if you allow me to", I say with at-most sincerity. I know she can see it how much I need her to think about all this one more time. I can practically hear the wheels turning in her head. As she was about to say something, her pager goes off and it doesn't stop. She takes it out and swear under her breath. 

"I have to go now. It was nice catching up with you Kade", saying so, she threw me one last glare and left, slamming the door behind her. 

I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding. As I was about to call the nurse in for some water, Violet comes barging in. 

"I thought I told you to solve your misunderstandings and not increase them tenfold", she screams making me wince and cover my left ear. 

"Why was her face stained with tears?!", she asked again, making me want to throw something at her to shut her up.

"We talked about what all happened 10 years ago and she told me how much she hates me. I asked her to give me one more chance but before she could say anything, she was paged", I tell her, sighing for nth time today. 

"You talked? About what?"

"Are you that dumb or have you forgot everything that my stupid and asshole self-did to her back then?"

"Fine I get. Please tell me you apologised profusely to her?"

"Not that it’s any of your business but yes I did. I hope she gives me a chance to make everything right", I sigh and Violet holds me left hand and gives it a squeeze. 

"She will. I am sure of it", she says and goes out to get me water to drink.

I am left with my own thoughts. I can only hope that she me gives a chance to make up for all the wrongs I have done to her.
