Chapter 1 New school Flora “Mom, what was it like to be in your high school back then?” I ask while I'm packing my things for tomorrow and my mom is helping me. “Well, typical is what high school is studying,events and so on”, my mom said as she zippered my last bag “Typical? Is it the same as normal school?” I was curious and excited to see what it would be as I sat in my bed. “You'll see once you've been there. So this is all” My mom stands and walks to the door. “Is Dad OK? ….” My mom stopped to close the door. “Don't you worry , I'll talk to him clearly.” Then she closed the door as I heard her walk away. I lay down. “What will it be for tomorrow?I'm restless about it” I muffled and covered my eyes with my arm. I can not stop thinking about what would happen if I were like my mom or if I would choose between vampire wolf. I want to stay normal like I am now. I pull out my blanket to cover myself and stare at the ceiling of my room. “I'm gonna miss this room of mine” I looked at my side table where I studied when I was in grade school and saw my friend's photo. “I'm gonna miss you guys”, remembering how funny and crazy students were. I closed my eyes and started to dream. I was shocked that my hands were covered with blood.I looked around and saw many people die. Someone is killing halflings and the pure ones from the other side start it. But I saw two people standing at “We are going to protect you” . Both of them say it at the same time. I tried to stop them from reaching them even though I didn't see their faces or who they were. Till I woke up. My hands were up as I looked at the ceiling and Dad barged in. “You're awake already? Come down the stairs and your mom will prepare a meal for us”. Then he left the door open after that. I sat up and looked at myself in the mirror. I fixed my hair and went downstairs. “Good morning, Mom and Dad” I said as I yawned. They both synchronized and greeted me back. Mom placed my meal where I sat before sitting beside my father. I sat up and dug in into my food, but by looking at my mom and dad. I got curious “Mom,Dad how did you two get together?” To think this is my last moment to talk long to mom and dad. “Well that's when your mom saved me '' My dad spoke “What save from what?” I asked curiously. “You know, back then I was late for work and I took a shortcut just to go home early.” My dad placed a hand on his chin “Yeah, your dad got clumsy. Instead of getting home, he lost his way. Went over the borders between human and unknown world” My mom added and laughed. My dad huffs in embarrassment. “ Well, can we go back to the story when your mom had to defeat her crush because of bullying and got her ass kicked.” My dad is back on fire. “Hey, that's what you got. If you're not my mate, I would let you be his plaything” My mom grudges back. “How would you know if he or she is your mate?” I asked my Mom. She just looked at me for a moment. “You will feel it when you know it” My mom replied and stood, placing her place at the sink. I saw the time. “s**t, I needed to prepare.I ate fast and went back to my room.” “Your Dad will take you to school” My mom shouted before I got to the bath. “Dad,Huh...Is he going to be OK with that?” to think while I finished washing my body. I don't know if I should wear a uniform or not, so I choose regular clothes like shirt and pants. I went down and my mom got to carry all my luggage from my room to the trunk of the car. My mom was fast and strong enough to carry my three bags at the same time. “Hope on the car.” My dad said while he got into the driver's seat. “Wait” I said and hugged my mom and she hugged me back. “I'm gonna miss you mom” I snuggle more as I smell my mom to remember her “Eh... I'm gonna miss you too and also call me if you need anything. I assure you I can come and get it”, My mom said, and I pulled out. “Nah… But I still can you guys if I have time” I said and smiled . My mom kissed my head and opened the car door. I got in and she closed it. I wave goodbye and my mom waves back. “Hey, don't be sad” my dad said while looking at the rear mirror. “I know, and we wouldn't be lost, right.You know the way?” I asked, because it's true my dad easily gets lost sometimes when he's not familiar with the place. “No.I remember the way, but I still want you to go to a normal school. Did you bid goodbye to your old friend?” My father looked straight ahead and the street began to get covered by trees so that it looked like we were out of the city. “Yeah, right graduation we are bid goodbyes there” I replied as I look around “We're near. So get ready”. My dad told me and turned around as I saw a tunnel. We went through it and saw many young people wearing normal clothes walking towards the gate ahead. “Are we here Dad?” I asked, as I was amazed by the big buildings I saw, like I was in a private school or something where rich people go too. “This is your new school.” He replied and started to park. I opened the car door and went out “Wow….” that's all I said. “I know it is great but be careful there.” My dad warned me and took my things out of the trunk while I looked around. I stepped back further to look at the whole view of the building in front till I bumped into someone “Hey, watch it.” I turned around and saw a girl who looked the same as my age. “Sorry” I said and bowed down my head a little because I was embarrassed. Sometimes I get my dad's clumsiness. “Yeah, right next time, watch your back” the girl said and walked away from the tallest building. “Maybe she’s a wolf,” I murmured to myself, though wolves are easily angry, unlike vampires who have calm faces. Well, I don't know if I'm still a normal person. “Flora, let’s go” my dad called. I ran because I didn't notice my dad carrying all my bags to the big building inside the hall already. I caught up and was greeted by my dad saying “What are you spacing out?” putting his hands on his back, he looked like a tired old man. “Sorry dad” I told him. “Fine, stay here and I'll ask where the principal office is?” Then my dad left me in the hall. It was 30mins when my dad and my feet started to kill me and so I remember my dad always gets lost in unfamiliar places. “Are you new here?” Someone spoke at my side. “Yes,” I said. She looks like a senior that has a mature aura. “You're looking for the office? Where are your parents?” She asked. “Yes, and I think my dad is lost again,” I told her. She put a hand on her mouth. “ Oh my, don't you worry, I'll help you.” “Thank you” I said, then she patted my head. “Sorry, I need your hair for the location spell” She said. Then my hair started to glow and float “Let’s go. It looks like it found your father already.” “How about my things?” I asked. “Don't you worry. No one here cares about things of a low rank”, she said, and started walking. “Low rank?” So this school is based on a ranking in my thoughts. “By the way, lucky I found you rathan the other council. I'm the vice president of the school, Clara, second yr here at Knightgray high and a witch.” “Wow, a witch, are you one of the pure blooded?” I got curious. “Yes, but I don't care if it is pure or not, unlike others who like to harm.” I looked at her. “Harm?” “Ahh. is that your father?” then the situation changed. We found my father sitting on the yard bench of the school resting from walking around. “Dad”, I called him. His face glimpsed like a lost child and walked towards me, hugging me. “I'm the child here, Dad” I said to make him let go of me. “Sorry I got carried away with my emotions,. But whose is this?” My dad let go of me and looked at the girl behind me. “This is Clara, Student Vice president of the school plus a witch” I introduced to him. Clara bowed a little and so was my father. “I'm the one who will guide you both to the office,” She said, starting walking as her tone began to change. Clara didn't talk anymore after meeting my father as we arrived at the office. “We're here” She knocks and opens the door to enter. The man who was looking at the window turned around and said “Welcome to knightgray high. Is that Danna’s child?” He got closer to me and hugged me. I tried to pull out but failed. My dad didn't speak and the man might have been the principal. “Excuse me,I'll be leaving, Sir” Clara spoke and turned toward the door. “Wait…” I called. “How about my things? Is it going to be OK?” I asked, but the principal answered. “I already called someone to pick them up”. He said, “ Please sit.” He motioned to my dad to sit on his couch. I heard the door lock and Clara was gone. I didn't give her a thank you. “I’m principal Demonic Ridevera”. He introduced himself. “Here is your schedule and locker number.” The principal gave it to me. “Thanks”, I told the principal. “You resemble your rebel Mom but you act like your father”, he said and laughed. I look at my father who is not talking and is embarrassed, looking away from the principal. “I remember this weakling almost died from seeing us” Then he laughed more. Then my dad started to speak“ Stop it old man”. He pointed and pulled the principal suit collar. I held my Dad's arm to stop it. “Dad what are you doing?” I said “Don't worry, I just wanted his angry face sometimes.” Then. He flipped my dad and pinned him down to the ground. The principal laughs “Still, weak even if you train my Son,” “Just let me go” My dad struggled. Then the principal let go of him and fixed his suit. “You still didn't want to be turned?” He asked my dad who was about to get up but he knelt down. “No. I don't want to” “Why?” The principal asked curiously, so I wanted to know too. “I'm not giving up my humanity. If I die, then I die, so the life cycle will continue. We shouldn't provoke the nature that was born. '' My dad replied. “Clumsy but clever as always,” The principal smirked. “Fine, have it your way”. He let it go. I helped my dad to stand. “Your dad can go now and I'll be the one who will guide you to the rest.” The principal talked to me and pat my shoulder. My dad only nodded and I hugged him last time before he left. I just watch him walking towards the door till it closes.
