CHAPTER 28 Wesley and the cleanup crew walked in Sunday morning ready for the overtime pay. No one was there to open the door for them, but the security guard, Frank. “Hey guys, you’re right on time. The boss wants the whole building cleaned and thoroughly polished.” Wesley and Jessica looked over the dirty first floor of the building full of glasses and bottles and Christmas graffiti. “It must’ve been one hell of a party.” Wesley teased to Frank, who shrugged. “I wouldn’t know.” He replied, walking away. Wesley nodded to the crew to start cleaning with their garbage bags and gloves in hand. “So Jessica, catch the show last night?” Bryan asked while they began to clean. “No, but I caught the news. That lady’s husband was crying because his wife was missing. No one has found her yet.” Jessica replied. “You know they think the boss did it.” Frank’s head turned in tune with the conversation. “Jason? He couldn’t have. And where is he anyway?” Wesley looked up at Frank for the answer. Frank just twirled his keys. “He will be in later. That’s all you need to know.” He replied. Wesley and Jessica continued their conversation as they cleaned. “Hey Bryan, we need some bleach for the floors. Can you go find us some?” Wesley called out. Bryan grumbled but took the stairs to the 2nd floor with his walkie-talkie on. He looked at the well-furnished floor made for s****l exploits to find the storage closet. He found one bottle of bleach inside, but only one, and it was half empty. He reported on his walkie-talkie. “I only found one. Where is another?” The walkie dashed on. “Try the big storage closet on the tenth floor,” Wesley replied. “Copy.” Bryan took the elevator to the tenth floor with the one container of bleach. The tenth floor wasn’t as bright and well-furnished as the second floor. Bryan assumed maybe the rooms became more dark and gloomy as the numbers went up. On this level was a black and red design with a black fluffy carpet that was soft to the touch. Like walking on a cloud. Bryan couldn’t help but touch the carpet. As he studied more of the carpets outlines, he could see traces of white on the carpet leading to the bed. The carpet had been sprayed with some cleaning material for sure, which wasn’t a big deal to Bryan. “Hey, Wesley?” “Yes?” “Some i***t tried to clean this shaggy carpet with bleach. Who cleaned on ten?” There wasn’t any response for a while. “None of us got to ten. It wasn’t on Melissa’s list for us so no one ever got to it.” Wesley buzzed in again. “Stop looking at the furniture and get the supplies.” Bryan sighed, walking back to the storage closet. He opened it quickly, giving a scream they could hear from the first floor. “Wesley!” Bryan yelled into the walkie-talkie. Frank grabbed his gun as they followed him up to the tenth floor. “Just calm down Bryan what’s happening?” “f**k f**k! I found the missing woman.” Frank and Wesley ran in to see what Bryan was seeing. They gasped back in horror as they saw her in the closet, her skin decayed with her throat slit with cuts all over her body. It looked as if she had been tortured before she was killed. “f**k!” Wesley screamed. “We need to call the cops.” He pulled out his phone while Frank pulled out his phone walking off, rubbing his face with his hands in the time of stress. Jason laid comfortably with Alyssa in his arms as his phone rang on her nightstand. She stirred once he reached for his phone. “Frank?” His voice was rasped from just waking up, but he sat up quickly once Frank told him he needed to come back. “s**t what’s happening?” Jason asked while jumping out of bed to put his shirt on. He never heard Frank sound so afraid. “You just have to see before the police get here. Please hurry.” Frank hung up as Jason gathered his things. “Leaving already?” She turned around to face him, groggy from falling asleep so late. They had talked all night and watched movies together. No s*x was involved, just getting to no one another until they fell asleep. “Something has happened at the office and I have to go. I will call you ok. I’m sorry.” He kissed her forehead and held her cheeks in his hands before running out.             He arrived at the Sanders building a little too late as officers and ambulances surrounded the place. He walked in confused and afraid. “What the f**k happened?” he asked walking up to Frank who stood at the front desk. He ran up to him. “They found Abagail Hawthorne.” Jason’s eyes widened. “What? How?” “They found her on the tenth floor in the supply closet.” Jason couldn’t speak. He only walked up to the elevator without Frank as he pressed the button, many thoughts ran through his mind. There was no f*****g way Abagail was left in the building all this time. Then, of course, he was sure to go to jail now that the woman was found in his home right under his nose. Someone hated him so much they were trying to frame him. It was the only explanation. Either way, he was f****d and there was no escaping it. The elevator door opened as he rushed to the crime scene. The atmosphere was overwhelming as there was caution tape and investigators everywhere taking pictures of evidence.  He took a step forward as everyone else rushed to contain the scene, just to be pushed back against the elevator. “You did this you sick f**k! You can’t get off unless you kill them huh?” He looked at Officer McGee holding his collar. Jason was in no mood to argue with him. “What happened?” He asked, as his voice broke. He pushed him hard again against the wall. “You  know exactly what happened…” “Officer McGee enough.” Detective Fairchild walked up saving him from McGee’s clutches once again. “What happened?” He asked again more demanding this time, needing answers. She jerked her eyes towards the scene for Jason to follow them. She watched his reaction as he stared in disbelief at the storage closet. “One of your cleanup crew members found her. We need to take you down to the station Mr. Sanders.” Jason covered his mouth as his stomach lurched as bile rose. He was truly going to be sick from the smell and the sight of Abagail all cut up and decaying. “She’s been in her for some time, possibly since she’s been missing,” Fairchild explained. “We will need more answers from you Mr. Sanders so you need to be honest with us.” Jason backed away with horror in his eyes. This wasn’t how he wanted the morning to go after the lovely time he spent with Alyssa. To come home to this was more than he could take. “I will do whatever you need me to do.” He replied, sadly, defeated, as he held his hands up behind his head, falling to his knees. Officer McGee placed the cuff on him reading him his rights. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand?” Jason nodded as McGee roughly picked him up then walked him to the front. Everyone stared as they watch Jason getting hauled away by the police. Wesley and Bryan that were being questioned and then Frank and Melissa. Jason’s mind was too far gone to wonder why Melissa was there, but he knew it wouldn’t be long before Dan knew and he would come with Lawyer Ross.
