Eight

By the end of another eight hours training Ava was beginning to feel the heat burning inside of her. Sarah placed a plate of food in front of her, but she immediately pushed it away. Sarah was concerned, “Sweetie, why don’t you go and lie down for a bit, you look under the weather, and all that training isn’t helping”. Ava shook her head, denying the suggestion, “I’m fine Sarah, I’ just not that hungry”. Sarah didn’t push it and left the young girl to sit alone at the counter. However, that silence didn’t last long when the door slammed open and an angry Felix came into the pack house. Sarah was so stunned she didn’t know what to say. But she wasn’t the target, Ava was. She looked up from other gloomy state to see Felix stalking towards her with a murderous glare. “You b***h” she calls out and his hand raises to sla Ava across the face. The force was so strong, it sent her flying across the kitchen into the wall. Sarah gasps with shock “Felix” she shouts. Even a Luna’s demand would be heard by the pack, but Felix wasn’t having any of it, his mind was focused on Ava, his anger was clouding everything including the will to obey his Alpha and Luna. Ava didn’t recover in time, as Felix stalked up to her and kicked her in the stomach, the sheer size of his foot would no doubt break a bone. Ava cries out in agony from the impact. “You had the Alpha remove me from my position” he screamed. Ava chuckled as she spat out the blood that filled her mouth from the slap, he gave her “What position Felix, you didn’t do anything”. She knew it would anger him more, but she too was getting angry, this burning heat was giving her anger enough amplification to get back on her feet. When Felix came at her for a third time, she was able to dodge his attack. Sarah had called for the Alpha, her mate to come and help, she didn’t know what to do and she certainly wasn’t going to get involved. Mason came rushing into the kitchen and was surprised at the sight before him, John his Beta hot on his heels followed by Kyle and Harris. When they saw the situation all four jumped into action and pulled Felix away from Ava. “You cost me my job; you will pay for this b***h” Felix growled, his eyes turning black in anger. “You wouldn’t have lost your job if you actually did the job, that’s why I’m here, to find the problems and fix them. You were the problem and now I’ve fixed it” she says. Felix’s anger grew with every word Ava spoke. “Get him out of here, put him in a cell, I’ll deal with him once he’s cooled off” Mason orders when more wolves come to help. Jason saw the mess Felix made of Ava and rushes to her side to see if she was okay. “I’m fine Jason, honestly” and she was, he hadn’t done much damage and she had received worse. Ava turned to Mason who was consoling his scared wife “So you told him then?” Ava spoke with a bloody grin. “That’s what it was about?” Mason exclaimed. Ava nodded, “Don’t worry it’s not the first time I’ve been attacked because I’ve removed someone from a position”. “Are you okay?” Mason asks and Ava nods her head. Jason sits her on a chair and has his hands on either side of her face, making sure she was okay. Kyle walks back into the kitchen with Harris and his father John. When he sees Jason with his hand on Ava’s face he growls. Jason lowers his head and automatically steps away from Ava. Ava scowls, “No” she says. Kyle looks at her. “No, you don’t get to tell someone off, you have no right” Ava calls to him. Kyle scowls “He was touching you”. Ava rolls her eyes, getting off the chair, she places the cloth she was holding to her face to stop the blood flowing down her face onto the counter. “I can’t deal with this right now” pushing past everyone, Ava heads out of the pack house into the backyard where most of the pack was currently hanging out. Kyle went to stop her. He reached out and grabs her hand, the all too familiar feeling of sparks surging up their arms from the touch. “Ava, don’t walk away from me I’m your…” Ava spins around and face’s Kyle “I’m your what?” she shouts. Everyone was now looking at them, their biggest secret was about to come out. “I’m your nothing, you made that decision four years ago” Ava spits out. “What if I changed my mind” Kyle says back. Ava shakes her head “You don’t get to change your mind”. The heat in her body begins to rise again, her anger had turned to pain, and the heat was amplifying it. “Ava don’t walk away from me” Kyle demands in his Alpha tone, but it didn’t work. “Why not? You walked away from me” Mason and Sarah had come out of the house now to see it all unfold. “Kyle now isn’t the time” Sarah tried to tell her eldest son, but he didn’t want to listen. “I’m sorry for what I did to you all those years ago” Kyle claims. Ava didn’t believe him. Her anger mixed with her sadness and the heat was mixing and she began to cry. When Kyle saw this, he stepped forward to wipe them away, but Ava stepped back and swatted his hand away. “All those years ago? What about the other night when I felt the same wrenching feeling of you ripping my soul from my body as you f****d that girl, just the same as the night you rejected me four years ago and for months after that”. Gasps of shock and horror filled the air. Their future Alpha rejected their Luna. “You didn’t care then” Ava gargles out. Kyle bows his head in shame, he felt the stares, his entire pack from young to old were judging him. Their pack was going have no Luna, no true Luna for the next generation to come. This alone makes their pack vulnerable, their Alpha won’t be at full strength, and Kyle was at fault for it. “I spent months in agony after that night, my dad would come into my room because I was screaming in pain, not knowing what was happening at first until he told me, weeks I couldn’t sleep, every night I felt what you did and you didn’t care back then”. Kyle’s eyes remained on the ground, the shame he carried, he couldn’t look at her. “Over a year I spent in excruciating pain covered in bruises and barely healing because you were f*****g some she-wolf, until I was able to cope with the pain, and then the months got easier, I still felt it, but I eventually learned to close it away until I no longer felt that agony. I somehow trained my mind and body to stop feeling the pain, it took me a while to figure out how, do you want to know how I did it?” Ava asked. He had caused this, so she was going to lay it all on, there was no point in leaving anything out now. Everyone might as well hear it so there wasn’t any mix up in the future. Kyle remained silent; Ava was going to tell him anyway “I stopped loving you” she said. This made Kyle react. “You love me?” he asked, now looking at Ava Ava shakes her head “No, I Loved you, ever since we were little and spent summers together, a part of me knew before we came of age that you were my mate but I stayed silent, dad says it was why I was in so much pain for so long, I was already in love with you which made it all the more painful when you rejected me”. Her arms wrap around her body, she was revealing something personnel and that made her feel vulnerable. “Then you can love me again” Kyle spoke with hope. He thought there was a chance he could make this right again. But Ava didn’t, there was no way this would be fixed. Ava turned to leave but she had a question. “Did I ever cross your mind once in the last four years?” Ava questioned. Kyle remained silent, he couldn’t lie, not now and he hated himself for it. “I can’t love someone like you, the guy I loved a long time ago no longer exists. I can’t go back there”. Then she was gone, Ava left, she needed to be alone, this was not how she planned her day and now the entire pack knows. A pack that was, four years ago meant to merge with her own to run as a Luna to them both. Kyle still remined where Ava left him, the pack was still in silence, no one knew what to say. He turned to his parent’s, but they too remained silence, he felt their judgement. Nathan stood in the corner of the garden with his friends, listening to the entire thing. He knew what his parents had told him, but they left out the part of his brother causing Ava pain from his s****l antics. When he heard Ava speak his anger and hatred for his brother grew. Kyle knew it would cause her so much pain, but he didn’t care. Nathan shook his head in disappointment, he couldn’t understand how his brother did that to Ava of all people. It became the talk of the pack for the rest of the day. Ava wasn’t there to listen to it, and she was grateful she didn’t have a link to everyone’s thoughts. It would have been too much. After a walk Ava took to her room, it was the best place for her right now. A knock on the door interrupted her blank staring at the wall. “Ava, can I come in” it was Mason. Part of her wanted to deny him access, but she couldn’t do it. Mason walked into the room; he wasn’t alone, three-year-old toddled in front of him carrying two spoons in her hand. Mason had a tub of ice cream. Ava smiled, “You didn’t need to bring me ice cream” she says. “Sarah wanted to bring it, but she’s currently cursing our eldest out and I didn’t think you would want to hear that” Mason informs Ava. Rose wandered up to the bed and tried to climb up. Giving Ava the ice cream he helps his only daughter onto the bed. Rose crawls up to Ava and sits beside her, handing a spoon to Ava to use. Opening the tub, Rose immediately tucks in, Ava wasn’t very hungry now. “I’m sorry about everything today” Mason begins. Ava cuts him off “It was bound to come out at some point” she tells him. Mason sighs with a nod “When you suddenly went back home that summer I didn’t know what to do, Samuel called me the moment you got home and asked me why his daughter came home early and was in floods of tears. I couldn’t answer him. It was the middle of the night when he phoned again to tell me you woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain because Kyle was having s*x with someone that wasn’t his mate”. Mason looks at his daughter to see her too occupied with the ice cream to be listening to the conversation. “I almost killed him that night when your dad told me, but he didn’t tell me that you spent a year in constant pain at night because of my boy”. Mason’s fists curl into a fist, he was getting angry. Ava reached forward and held his hand; he relaxed a little. “You didn’t do anything, he did, and he will forever suffer for what he did, I know Nathan won’t let him forget it” Ava chuckles. Mason smiles but there was still sadness on his face. “I always thought of you as my daughter, but that night I really did lose my first daughter” he said. Tears began to well in her eyes, “I will always be around, you were my summer father” she laughs out at the ridiculous name she gave him when she was little. “We’ll leave you alone” Mason says about to reach out for his little girl. Ava stops him, wrapping her arms around the toddler, “Oh she can stay, we need some sister bonding time” she says. Mason gives a genuine smile, the first true smile since walking into the room. Leaning over he places a kiss on both girl’s heads. As Mason leaves, Ava puts the television on, a Disney film both would enjoy watching. Mason heads downstairs to join his wife in the kitchen. Sarah was baking. “Where’s Rose?” she questions. “Upstairs with Ava” Mason replied. Reaching into the cupboard he gets a glass for a drink, ignoring his eldest son sat at the kitchen island. “Ava wanted her to stay for some sister bonding time” he added. Kyle looks up at his parents and sighed, he really f****d up this time. Ava never left her room that night, Jake came to collect his sister for dinner. As Rose walked to the door Jake looked at Ava who had an empty face of emotion. She needed time to recover again. Picking up his sister, Jake was going to leave without saying anything, but something told him to speak. “I’m sorry, Kyle is a bastard”. Ava’s daze broke and she looked at Jake to give him an empty smile. When the door closed she was left with her own thoughts and for the first time in three years Ava cried herself to sleep, it was all too much and crying was the only none violent way she knew to release the pain. The curtains weren’t closed which let all the beams of light from the early morning sun into the room Ava was sleeping in. Even without an alarm she woke up at the break of dawn. Her face was stained with tears, hair a mess and sleep in her eyes. There was no point wallowing for a second day, Ava got up and washed her face and brushed her hair before changing into her exercise gear. Brushing her teeth, she headed downstairs to find Mason as usual drinking coffee and reading the newspaper at the table. He lowered the paper when he sees Ava walking in, “I thought you’d spend the day resting and relaxing?”. Ava shakes her head, “I already wasted enough time on him” she said then realised who she was talking too “Sorry” she says. Mason shakes his head “Don’t apologise to me, you’ve done nothing wrong”. Ava was grateful for Mason; he was the wisdom and father figure she misses from her father since being at the Snow Stone Pack. “I called your father last night” Mason says as Ava was about to head out for her morning run. She stops and turns back around to face the Alpha “What?” not believing she heard him right. “I had to tell him what happened, he wanted to head up here and kill Kyle and take you home, but I held him off, telling him you’ll call him today”. Ava sighed; she didn’t like that her father was now stressing even more about his only daughter being in the pack where she was rejected having to go through something similar all over again. “You shouldn’t have called him” Ava says. Mason nods “Yes I should have; I’ve been keeping him up to date on everything happening since you arrived”. Ava looked at him wide eyed, “Even the accident?” and Mason nodded once again. Shaking her head, she left Mason alone so she could run. That phone call was going to be fun.
