High councilman Morris had Alpha Mason, Luna Sarah and two of their four kids they managed to get, along with Alpha Samuel held in the cells of the High Councils building in the main city.
The Beta’s had been released to run the packs under the watchful eye of council soldiers.
It had been three days Samuel, Mason, Sarah, Kyle, and Jake had been shackled to the walls of the damp and stingy cells. Barely fed and no light other than what little managed to break through the cracks of the cell walls from outside.
No one spoke, every one of them had no answers for the council, it was true, even though they didn’t believe them. No one knew about Ava’s connection to the Lycan Shadow Pack, she had kept it a secret even from her father, but that wasn’t because she didn’t want to tell him, but everyone was so occupied with the Pack Games, it slipped her mind on top of training and then everything happened all at once, there was no time.
Mason held onto his mate as she stared into the abyss, her mind in a cloud. All she could think about was Nathan and Rose, were they safe? Had they found Ava? Did rogues find them? It was hard to control her feelings and often tears escaped her eyes, Mason would quickly wipe them away so their sons wouldn’t see.
Samuel sighed, his head resting against the dirty cold wall of the cell. “How could I have let this happen?” he spoke softly. He knew Ava was special, it was only a matter of time until something changed.
Ava had done everything to please the council, she never put a foot wrong, and then these two weeks everything came crashing down. He should have never sent her to Mason, he was now in the middle of this mess also.
He began to worry that things weren’t quite right a few days after Ava left.
When a pack member leaves their own territory, unless a mated; to a certain distance, mind link no longer worked, but Samuel never had that with Ava, no matter where in the country she was, he could link with her, he figured it was associated to her early shift and other things, but never found anything when he researched.
“This isn’t your fault, it’s no one’s but the council’s, Ava’s a good girl, she did nothing wrong” Mason countered, however there was something that didn’t make sense.
“How did Ava get involved with Steele Everhart?” Sarah asked. Everyone had heard the stories of the pack, and the ceremony two nights ago had people with more questions about what happened all those years ago.
Samuel shook his head, “I don’t know, but Ava isn't stupid, she knows what she’s doing” he replies.
Silence coated the air until Jake spoke “Do you think Nathan found Ava?” he asks. His entire body was racked with guilt that he left them on their own, despite his parents telling him countless times, it was okay.
Sarah turned to her boy and smiled, she took his hand in her own and gave a light squeeze “I’m sure of it, Nathan is a very resourceful boy” she spoke softly, but every word carried a confidence that had Jake smiling at his mother.
Samuel groaned and sat forward, placing his head in his hands, his fingers running through his hair until they gripped tight.
“Why isn’t she answering” Samuel growls. Ava always answered his call through the link. The only time she didn’t was when she was unconscious, and Samuel pleaded with the goddess that she wasn’t dead or severely hurt.
Mason looks at his friend, already beginning to believe he was losing it. “Sam, she is too far away to…”.
Samuel shakes his head “No matter where Ava was, she has been able to link with me, ever since she was eight when she shifted”.
Sarah sat up and gasped, “Ava shifted at eight?” she asks. She had never heard of anyone shifting so young.
Samuel nodded, “Ever since then I’ve been able to talk to Ava through the link, it is a lot stronger than my connection to the pack, the only time I couldn’t reach her was when she was unconscious, and that’s happened a few times recently” which made him believe she was still out cold from whatever was happening to her.
Sarah was shocked, she didn’t know how to respond to that. Samuel had his eyes closed, he was trying to reach her again, so everyone remained silent and left him alone.
Kyle sat in the corner listening to his parents talk to Alpha Samuel about his mate, that would explain the connection she had to him when they were kids, she had already shifted and felt the mate pull. But she remained silent throughout. She had watched him flirt with other girls when they hit their teenage years and sill kept her mouth shut.
He hated himself for what he had done to Ava and now he couldn’t do anything to help her, especially with her now in the arms of the Rogue Alpha. Anything could be happening to her.
When the night fell for the third time, what little light in the cell there was disappeared, they had strong eyesight thanks to their species and could see everyone clearly.
Kyle soon felt uncomfortable, slowly the pain grew, and he groaned out. Everyone turned to look at him and Sarah spoke “What’s wrong Kyle?”.
He shook his head, the pain slowly intensifying, “I don’t know, but Cody is gone, I can’t feel him, I feel like my entire body is on fire” he groans out.
Samuel heard him and laughed, a full belly laugh. He hadn’t laughed like this in a long time.
Everyone turned to look at him, even Mason. When Samuel composed himself, he had a smile on his face.
“Well at least I know she’s alive” Samuel commented and couldn’t let go of the smile on his face.
“How do you know that? What does that have to do with…” Mason trailed off, he now understood.
“Ava” Sarah said, also connecting the dots.
“When Kyle rejected my little girl four years ago, she never accepted the rejection which is why she was in so much pain when Kyle slept about. And she still hasn’t fully rejected him which is why he’s feeling only a small amount of what she suffered for over a year” Samuel explained, finally his daughter was okay, better if he could talk to her but she was okay and Kyle was now paying the consequences.
“Besides, my daughter wouldn’t be reckless and just sleep with anyone” Samuel finished.
It lasted all of five minutes before the pain ceased, Kyle gave a sigh of relief and took a moment to calm his heart rate.
Samuel however was grinning from ear to ear at Kyle’s discomfort.
The night ticked by slowly, guards came down and gave them what they considered meals. A piece of bread and a brown slop that didn’t even look edible.
Samuel kept trying until he felt a stir within him, his wolf Flint getting excited then suddenly calming down.
Ava can you hear me? Please sweetie answer me Samuel begged.
There was silence and it continued for a few moments.
Ava come one, answer me he yells.
Dad? Is that you? A small voice carries through the link.
Samuel laughs out in relief. Mason turns to look at him in confusion and surprise at the outburst.
Oh Ava, my little girl are you okay? Are you hurt? Samuel didn’t know what to ask first.
Ava chuckled through the link shouldn’t I be the one asking you that since the council have you?
We’re okay, but I can tell Mason and Sarah are worried about Nathan and Rose Samuel says.
They’re okay, a little shaken up but okay Ava informs her father.
Samuel looks over to Mason and Sarah, along with their children and smiles “Nathan and Rose are safe, Ava has them".
Sarah falls into her mate and cries with joy. Her babies were okay. They were safe and not alone, Sarah was grateful to Ava for.
“Are you sure?” Sarah sobs out and Samuel nods, Ava wouldn’t lie about something like this.
“Tell her to tell them, we’re okay and we loved them very much” Mason spoke, knowing his mate wouldn’t be able to form the words herself.
Samuel nods Ava tell the kids their family loves them and they’re okay. Even though he couldn’t see his daughter he knew she was doing everything she can to protect those children. He also knew that Ava would stop at nothing to get her father and the Snow family out of the council’s grasp.
Ava…Samuel begins don’t fight this, let me sort it out, don’t get involved.
She sighed, Dad, I’m not going to stand by and let those monsters torture you, Steele and I are figuring out a plan of attack and when we have something, I’ll let you know okay. Is John and Leon with you? she needed to know who she can trust on the outside who people would follow.
No, all packs have been sent back to their own territories, Leon and John oversee the Snow Stone and Night Star Packs, but Morris has sent soldiers with them to watch them Samuel informs his daughter.
Samuel knew the moment she asked questions that she had already began planning. There was no stopping her now.
He was about to say his goodbyes when he remembered something Kyle was in pain last night, the same pain you had when he was having s*x did you…
Ava shouted back Oh god no dad, Steele and I just got a little carried away then she realised what she said.
Steele? Why is he touching you like that? Samuel questioned, he waited for Ava to respond, but there was nothing.
Ava, he warned knowing she was purposefully ignoring the question.
Because he’s my second mate she speaks quietly in the link.
Samuel’s eyes go wide in surprise, but he composed himself before anyone saw.
Second mate, I didn’t think that was possible he spoke.
Ava chuckled in the link There’s a lot to talk about when we see each other but let’s just say second chance mates in our family isn’t unusual.
They conversed a few minutes more before they decided to talk later.
Be careful Ava, I love you and trust you know what you’re doing Samuel said his goodbyes and cut the link just in time for council soldiers to walk down with head councilman Morris following behind.
He walked in with his hands behind his back and a smile on his face. He was enjoying this, more than he should. “Are we ready to talk yet?”.
Samuel growls, “We don’t have any information, I have no idea what my daughter’s connection is with Steele Everhart, she has been gone for two weeks working”. It was true, he had no idea Ava’s connection to Steele, and he wasn’t going to ask, that was a conversation done face to face.
He also knew that Morris would find some way to get it out of him. The council were merciless people, even when they knew those, they tortured were telling the truth.
“Did you kill that boy’s mother?” Sarah asked, remembering what Ava said on stage before everything went wrong.
Morris shook his head in denial to the accusation, but Sarah saw the twinkle in his eyes and knew he had done it. That man oozed evil and now that Ava had opened that can of worms, Morris’ true colours were breaking out.
Morris hummed, “Well perhaps another night in the cells will jog your memory, after that, I guess I can let my soldiers start with the boys and work their way up to the Alpha’s”.
Then he was gone, everyone sat in silence for a few moments until Jake spoke up “This is all your fault” he uttered.
Everyone looked at Jake to see him glaring at his brother Kyle.
“Jake…” Kyle says but Jake shouts at him.
“If you had accepted Ava four years ago, she wouldn’t have become a head warrior and she would be by your side, Nathan and Rose would be at home with us, if you’d have taken control like you should have done, Ava wouldn’t be with the Rogue Alpha and we wouldn’t be chained in the cells of the High Council. We would have avoided this all together if you would have kept d**k in your pants and loved her like she did to you, though you were an asshole even before the rejection”. Jake let it out. He had been watching for too long. He had even started acting like his brother because he looked up to Kyle.
After seeing what he had done to Ava, the same girl who came to their pack during the summer and help Jake with school work or hang out with him when Kyle refused. Played with Nathan and other children in the pack. She never turned anyone away and she was now paying for it. All because his brother didn’t want her.
After this he wasn’t going to deny his mate, he saw what it did to someone, he couldn’t do it, he was going to but not now.
