He heard the scream, and was curious as to what was happening, leaving his group alone, the man moved to investigate, remaining in wolf form as he was unsure as to what he might come across. ‘Leo, where the hell have you gone?’ Flynn calls to his old friend through mind link. ‘I heard a scream; thought I’d check it out’ Leo replies. Flynn sighs, the whole point of himself, Leo and a few others heading out before the Alpha was to scout the area, just like they did every other time. ‘You’re not supposed to be going off, if a pack were to spot you, we’d all be in trouble’ Flynn says with an exasperated tone through private link. Leo sighs ‘I’ll be quick’ he says and then the link was cut. The young man wandered through the woods, he felt the territory line nearby, so long as he didn’t cross it, he would be fine. Soon the smell of blood filled the air and Leo picked up the pace to locate the potential disaster zone. The rogue was the first to be spotted, there was no other rogue about, but Leo remained in his wolf form in case another was lurking somewhere. With so much blood it took Leo a moment to find the girl collapsed on the ground nearby. He thought she was killed by the rogue, but her chest rose and fell with staggered breath, Leo jumped with surprise. He looked around to see if it was clear, satisfied with his decision, Leo shifts into human form. With no clothes, the young man stood barefoot in the middle of the forest naked. Walking up to the young girl on the floor, he checks for a pulse, it was weak but there. Following the trail of blood, her found the deep wound caused by the rogue. Leo couldn’t leave her there to die, even though her knew Flynn would have something to say about bringing an outsider to their scouting location, he didn’t care. Picking the bleeding girl up in his arms he noticed the fresh burn wound on her back, she was also covered in scars, from what little flesh he saw. He assumption was that she was abused and made him surer than ever not to leave her there to die. Flynn was sat around the small fire made when Leo walked back into the camp naked and with a half dead girl in his arms. “Oh god, please tell me you didn’t kill it” Flynn mocked, he knew the personality of Leo and that he wouldn’t hurt a fly unless he had too. “A rogue attack” Leo breathes out. Laying her on the ground besides the fire, another wolf throws him some pants to put on before he kneeled once again to tend to the young girl. “She isn’t our problem Leo, you shouldn’t have brought her into this, if he finds out were all punished and she’s dead” Flynn spoke with a dark tone. Though the Alpha was his best friend he knew how he’d react if he found an outsider near his pack. “I couldn’t just leave her there, she could have died, besides, I think her pack is abusing her” Leo speaks with a soft tone. He moved to lift the shirt of the girl so he could get a better look at the bleeding wound and revealed old scars. Flynn was yet to be bothered by this “So, send her back or better yet, take her somewhere else so she doesn’t wake up here”. Leo rolled his eyes “Just because you don’t have a nice bone in your body doesn’t mean I have to be like you. Flynn huffed at his younger brother, looking at them you would know they were related, but their personalities were opposite sides of the scale. Leo examined the wound and patched it up as best as he could, then moved to look at the burn on her back and shoulder, “This is nasty” Leo spoke as he removed the dirty bandage and replaced it with a fresh one, but not before putting his own poultice on the wound to aid in the healing process. Leo kept the ripped shirt on the girl, not wanting to expose her more than she already was. The night sky fell upon the group in the forest, it was only then; when the temperature began to decrease that Ava began to stir. Leo, Flynn, and everyone else in the small group paused movement, they didn’t know what was going to happen. Ava stirred, she rolled and landed on her new wound. Ava’s eyes widen in pain and she sits up at great speed. “Ow” Ava groans. She didn’t even notice her surroundings until Leo spoke. “I’ve put a fresh bandage on, so it didn’t get infected and cleaned your new wound” his tone vas soft. Ava’s eyes went side with surprise, she jumps to her feet despite the pain thrashing throughout her body. “Who the hell are you and why am I here?” she screeches. Flynn sighs, “You better deal with this Leo and fast, we leave to head back in a few hours”. Standing up Flynn walks away. Ava was confused, she had no idea what was going on. “My name is Leo, the guy walking away was my brother Flynn, I found you in the forest, you were hurt pretty bad from the rogue you managed to kill”. Ava was still cautious, but she sat on the ground, wary of the men around her. They all looked at her with a solid stare, they were on their guard in case something was to happen, they didn’t trust outsiders. “Well thanks for the help but I need to head back” she says. “You’re welcome, but are you sure you want to go back?” Leo asks, he was unsure as to how to talk about the scars on the girl’s abdomen. Ava looked at him with confusion, “Why wouldn’t I want to go back?” she asks. “The scars, they’re hurting you” Leo states warily in case it was to trigger something for the girl. Ava laughs, he thought the scars on her body was from abuse. “Honestly, I’m fine, but I really should be going” Ava says, then she realises the sun was beginning to set. “s**t, I’m going to be late” she calls. “Wait, at least tell me your name?” Leo asks. Ava smiles, but she was still cautious of him and the others, “Lavender” she calls over her shoulder as she runs, she never used her full name for things, so she figured it would be the best name to give. Ava vanished into the trees and when Flynn returned to the small group it was as if she didn’t exist. “Good, we need to head back, Alpha’s orders” Flynn says, and the small group packed up, ensuring to take everything with them leaving no trace. Their main camp was a few hours run into rogue territory where their fighters was currently held up with their Alpha. He knew they were there before they arrived into camp. When the Alpha walked out of his tent, everyone around bowed, and remained that way until he walked past them, they would then continue with whatever they were doing before he came out. Flynn walked up to his Alpha and bowed, his younger brother and the other scouts also followed suit. They each stood up straight and without a word spoken, left the Beta and Alpha alone to speak. Leo however didn’t get far. The Alpha inhaled a smell that was foreign to him. “Leo a word in private” his tone deadly. Leo gulped, he didn’t know what was going on, only that those who were told to speak to the Alpha in private never survived. He wasn’t a merciful Alpha. Flynn began to panic, his brother was all he had left of his blood family and best friends with the Alpha or not, there was no changing his mind once it was made. Leo nodded his head and swiftly left his Alpha’s presence to wait in his private tent. When the young man left Flynn spoke up “Alpha Steele, please…” Flynn began but his Alpha cut him off. “Relax Flynn, your brother isn’t going to be harmed” his Alpha tone, though hard and intimidating, spoke only truth and you could see Flynn visibly relax. “What do you have from the scouting?” the Alpha asked his Beta. The pair stood to chat about intel. Up in the Alpha’s tent, nineteen-year-old Leo paced back and forth, his fear of potential death growing nearer by the minute, he went over in his mind what he might have done to wrong his Alpha. A part of him wanted to run, leaving his brother but still breathing, although his Alpha was a man who finished what he started and if that meant chasing a wolf to the ends of the earth then he wood, Leo would spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder. He never had the opportunity to run as the Alpha walked into the tent and Leo immediately bowed his head in respect. “Alpha, I don’t know what I did, but I am sorry, and I hope…” Leo stuttered over every word. The Alpha looked at him amused, entertained by the fact that his pack feared him even when he didn’t threaten their lives. “Leo, you’re not in trouble, stand-up” he demanded. The young man rose from his bowed position and looked at his Alpha. “I just want to know why you have an odd odour to you?” Steele asks he walks to his chair and sits down waiting for Leo to respond. Leo looks at him confused, “Odour?” he repeats back. Steele nods his head, “Yes, you carry a scent that I have never come across before” he didn’t want to go too far into the matter of why it bothered him as it was personnel. “Um, I found a girl in the woods, she was hurt by a rogue so I brought her back to camp to patch her up, a few hours later she woke up and left” Leo rushed out, he was told to stay away from outsiders on the Alphas orders, and Leo broke that order. Leo began to panic, breaking a direct order from the Alpha leads to punishment and most punishments result in serious injury. The Alpha gets to his feet, and suddenly Leo is back on the ground with his eyes shut looking down, hoping he wouldn’t be too hurt when the Alpha was finished with him. “Did you get her name?” Steele questioned. “Lavender” Leo spoke quickly. As Steele mulled the name over in his mind he walked back to his seat, “That will be all, you are dismissed” he says. Leo was still on the ground, frozen in fear and shock, he wasn’t punished for breaking a rule, how can that be? The Alpha never lets anyone get away with breaking rules. “I said you can leave” the Alpha spoke again, but with more authority. Leo scrambled to his feet and gave one last bow before rushing out of the tent. When the crisp evening air hit his lungs, Leo felt bilious. Walking around the corner of the tent he heaved his dinner up he ate merely hours ago. Flynn waited nearby waiting for his brother, Steele said he wasn’t going to hurt him, but the worry remained. Friend or not, he was an Alpha first. It was when the vomiting was heard that Flynn rushed towards the sound. Leo was holding his stomach as its contents came spilling out on to the dirt covered floor. “You okay?” Flynn asks. Leo spat out the taste that lingered and then stood up “Yeah, I think so, I thought he was going to kill me when I told him about the girl”. Flynn’s eyes widen in shock, he knew all too well what it was like to break the rules, he himself had given out the punishment to pack members. “Why would you do that, you broke a rule and you told him about it” Flynn exclaimed. “I had no choice, he asked me about a foreign scent he smelt on me when I arrived, I had to tell him where it came from” Leo spoke. Flynn sighed, “And this is why I tell you to leave things as they are, it could get you killed” Flynn explained. Leo shook his head, “I don’t care, Lavender needed help”. Flynn looked at his brother “Lavender? You got the girls name?” Flynn exclaimed. Leo nodded, “The Alpha knows too” he said. Flynn shook his head and rubbed his hands over his face “I need a drink” he said as he turned away from his little brother. Leo rushed after him until he walked by his side, “He didn’t punish me for breaking the rules, he just wanted to know her name, then he told me to leave”. Flynn looked at his brother with confusion as they made their way through the camp to get drinks. “Seriously?” Flynn asked. Leo shook his head. This was the first time Flynn had known his friend and Alpha to ignore the rule breaking, he asked what the girls name was, then sent Leo out. It was very unusual for the Alpha.
