Morris looks up form chatting with the other council members and sees the Rogue Alpha and Lavender Adams no longer in sight.
“Where are they?” he screams out, wanting to know “They took off into the forest councilman Morris, were gathering the troops to go after them” a soldier spoke up.
Morris growled out in anger, he wanted them dead, if the packs start to believe them, the high council will soon lose power and no pack will follow their orders. Their power and rank amongst werewolves is created from the packs, the less packs that follow their orders the weaker they become and eventually any pack Alpha could order them around.
Morris scans the areas and his eyes land on Alpha Mason and his Beta along with Alpha Samuel and his Beta.
“I want everyone who was close to Lavender Adams in chains for questioning. Adult and child” he barked out.
He wanted Ava to suffer, and he wanted her dead at his feet. The only way he could do that was to coax her out of hiding. Her family and friends are the key.
Mason and Samuel heard the order from head councilman Morris and looked at one another “We need to get Rose, Jake and Nathan out of here now” Samuel said to Mason.
Mason looked over at his mate and saw her filled with fear as she held onto their daughter.
“Where are we supposed to send them, the council will be everywhere?” Mason cries out to his friend, he knew this wasn’t Ava’s fault but, his children were in danger.
Samuel looked at him, “I have an idea, but you won't like it” he says. He himself was reluctant to send Ava with the Rogue Alpha but he knew she would be safe, and the children will be too. Ava would make sure of it.
When Mason told his mate the plan, she was reluctant to send their three youngest children out into the woods alone. But the soldiers were closing in on them. She had no choice.
Sarah placed her tear covered lips on her daughter’s forehead, “I love you so much baby” she cried, this could be the last time she would see her babies.
Mason hugged his youngest sons, “You run North and don’t stop until you find Ava, or the Lycan Shadow Pack do you hear me?” he tells his fifteen-year-old son Jake. He couldn’t believe he was sending his children on the run. None of them had sifter yet. He would send Kyle, but he knew the Rogue Alpha would slaughter him.
Jake nodded his head and took a hold of his baby sister. The Alpha and Luna, with the help of Samuel shielded the three children as they took off heading north. When council spot the Alpha’s and Luna, they move towards them. One of them spot the children running away and calls out “Stop the Alpha’s children now”.
Mason saw red, he was going to protect his family no matter what.
Mason, Sarah, and the Beta of the Snow Stone Pack John along with Samuel and his Leon all shifted and charged towards the council soldiers, those kids were making it out alive no matter what.
Jake ran with a crying Rose in his arms and Nathan panting besides him. He was glad that Ava had been training them or else they wouldn’t be able to run for long.
Nathan looked over his shoulder and screamed, “Jake run faster their coming” Nathan pants out. He glances over his shoulder to see two men running towards them, they were in human form, he could take them, or at least distract them long enough for Nathan to run with Rose.
“We won’t get far” Jake pants, “You need to take Rose, I will distract them so you can get away” he tells his little brother. Jake saw the few in his eyes, but this was all he could do.
“No Jake, mom and dad said we all have to run” tears were already in his eyes from fear, and now his brother was going to be leaving him too.
“Get ready to take Rose and don’t look back” Jake told him. Nathan nodded his head.
Seconds later and Jake unhooks his scared little sister from his body and hands her over. Rose’s little cries of fear and protest ring through the brother’s ears, but when she recognises her other brother she settles, wrapping her ting arms around his neck. But her cries of fear were still heard.
“GO” Jake shouts and slows his pace, turning around ready to face well trained warriors. He wasn’t going to last long, but it would be enough for his brother to getaway and find Ava.
The council soldiers slow down and circle the boy, they had no emotion on their faces. That was one thing about the soldiers of the council, they are beaten and trained until they show no emotion and follow every order, regardless of what it is. It was like they were enchanted to do so.
Jake was grabbed almost instantly, but not before giving them the run around. A fist landed on his face and he was dragged back to the high council.
Jake spotted his father, brother and everyone who knew Ava on their knees lined up with chains on their feet and wrists.
Jake was dragged to head councilman Morris who was currently stood in front of his father Mason and Alpha Samuel.
Mason eyes go wide upon seeing his son thrown to the ground in front of him.
“And the other two?” Morris questions.
The council soldier was about to answer when Jake’s laughter rang through everyone’s ears.
Everyone looked at him, had that blow to the head made him nuts?
“You’ll never find them, I made sure they got away” he looked directly at the councilman, but his words were spoken to his parents who silently cried out in relief.
Morris sneered at the boy “Chain him up the other’s” he says with a flick of the wrist.
Jake looks at his parents and gave a sad smile, “I had no choice, they were coming after us” he whispered, Sarah smiles at her middle son with glassy eyes, “You did good baby, that was very brave. We are so proud of you” she whispers out with a small smile on her lips. She had raised strong boys.
Morris had every pack in at the ceremony questioned, Ava had trained a large quantity of people, he had no idea what people knew about her.
But it wasn’t much, Samuel taught his daughter to keep her distance, the only ones who knew more than most were the Snow Stone Alpha and his family, and Mason knew more than the rest of his family.
“I’m sorry I got your family involved in this” Samuel uttered with his head bowed in pain and shame.
Mason growled, “I don’t care Sam, you are my best friend, we have always gone through everything together no matter what, and this is one of those times” he say.
“She is our daughter too” Sarah says with authority, blood or not, Samuel and Ava have always been family, and this situation wasn’t going to change it.
One thing was for sure, they were glad none of them knew of Ava being a Lycan, and a good thing too. If they knew and the council found out, they would all be dead.
Nathan continued to run, he had crossed his pack border long ago and was now in no man's land, he had never left the territory, not on his own and certainly not overseeing the care for his baby sister.
He couldn’t feel or sense anyone chasing him, but that didn’t stop him running. The sooner he got to Ava the safer he and Rose would be.
As the night sky turned into day, he could feel his legs burning, they were going to break. But he couldn’t stop. His father told him not to until he found Ava. Rose was sleeping peacefully in his arms. Her little face puffy and covered in streaks of tear stains.
He continued to push himself, not stopping until the night came and Rose woke up wanting food. But he had nothing to give her.
He rested for a short while. When Rose was placed on the ground his legs collapsed from under him and he groaned, they were numb. He was yet to shift, at thirteen all that running was doing a number on his body, but Nathan kept telling himself it was worth it, he need to get to Ava so his parents wouldn’t have to worry about them.
An hour Nathan rested before running again. Nothing was recognisable about the forest. Though he was taught about the Lycan Shadow Pack and its location, they were never told how to get there, they didn’t want anyone going near it out of fear for the Rogue Alpha and his murderous pack.
But Nathan saw what happened on stage with Ava, how he reacted to Kyle, it was scary watching his brother almost die, but the call of agony from Ava had him running back to her like a little puppy. She was in pain and called out to him, wanting him to make it stop.
He had only ever seen that with mates. But that was impossible. You only get one mate and his stupid big brother was Ava’s so why was the Rogue Alpha reacting towards Ava that way.
As his thoughts took over, Nathan’s mind was distracted from the ache and burning pain in his legs. The second night of running into the second day and he continued, there was no food and his body was beginning to weaken. Rose needed food and there was nothing nearby which what kept him going. They weren’t going to die out in the forest.
In the distance smoke broke through the tree tops. Nathan slowed his pace and moved towards the smoke. Perhaps they would spare him food, if not for him then Rose.
He didn’t know whose camp it was and stuck to hiding in the bushes, as they hadn’t shifted, their scents weren’t distinct enough for people to pick up. Trackers would probably sense them, but it was more difficult for others.
Nathan’s eyes go wide with shock as he sees warriors wandering around the small camp side, there was at least a hundred if not more.
He quickly scanned the area and looked to see if Ava was there.
He heard her voice “My father thought she was human, she never carried a scent to others, but my father could sense her miles away, I shifted when I was eight, I had no scent, so no one knew I ever shifted, many still don’t know I have. My mother gave birth to me and died holding me in her arms, the last thing my father saw of my mother’s eyes was that they glowed purple” Ava spoke.
Nathan creased his eyebrows in confusion ‘Purple glowing eyes’ he thought. He didn’t know any creature with eyes that glowed purple.
The rest of what Ava said was hard to hear, he moved forward; still hiding behind the bush so he could hear her better, but a twig under his foot snapped and everyone went silent including Ava.
Nathan’s eyes widen in fright as the Rogue Alpha and Beta along with some warriors move to Nathan’s position.
They got ready to leap, thinking it was a council soldier spy or scout.
“No don’t” Ava’s voice cries out and he sees her jump in front of the Alpha who lets out a growl or annoyance, Nathan recoiled in fear at the sound and tears began to stream down his face once again.
“Nathan” his name rolled off her tongue in a soft calming voice. He was scared for a second, but he knew Ava wouldn’t let anyone harm them both.
Shakily Nathan emerged from the bushes, his grip on Rose tightening. Ava steps forward and embraces the children and Nathan sniffles, he did it, he did what his father asked of him. He found Ava and they were safe.
